lose weight with Couch to 5K- who wants to join me?
So I started the Couch to 5K in the summer with a great group. Finished in mid-October (I was running for time not distance). I started running at around 221 pounds and ending around 200. I'm now around 190 and want to do the program again. I was much more motivated when I had running buddies. Anyone want to join me? I'm thinking of starting next week (week of Jan 5th). I had never run before and by the end I was running for 25 minutes straight. Would like to do a real C25K in the spring. Cool Running explains the program really well. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.s html I run on the treadmill, but open to elliptical or outside (if you live some place warmer than me!)
Reason: Moved from WL to Games & Challenges forum, thanks
That sounds great to me! My mom used to do something like this last year. It got her in pretty good shape- I mean, she looks like her wedding photos now. Which is kind of weird. Would you measure by distance or time?
I did it by time, but either way is good.
Time works for me, and I'm okay with using a treadmill. I'm kind of excited about it. I've never really committed to a work-out plan like this before. I train with a trainer once a week and practise with my team twice a week and a few other things, but this feels official. =) Sick.
I started couch to 5k yesterday... I'm running outside and it was very hard work! I expect I'm going to have to do week 1 twice over to get my cardiovascular system used to the idea of working hard....
I need to get going again. I had to take three weeks off while whatever it was that I did to my leg healed. I can run now without it getting angry at me, so it's clearly time to get going.
I was up to week five when I hurt my leg. I'm going to try to pick up in week four again and see how I do before trying week five again.
It's not running, but a nice companion program to go with C25K is 100 pushups.
I started week one last sunday and have got in 4 sessions so far. I used to run years ago and actually was in a marathon prior to having my kids. SO far so good and hope to lose more weight. I'm signed up for a 5 k march 28 so I really need and love this program.
I'll be doing my 3rd workout for week 2 tomorrow!! I'm having fun and it's kicking my butt!!!
i havnt ran since i moved away from my running partner. i need all the motivation i can get. i am in...i would really love to complete a half marathon this year

Hey! I'm in! I just started week one last night, in fact. I am going to try for Tues, Thurs and Sundays.
I'm not sure I'm up for a road race, but I would like to be in
good enough shape to run a 5 k if I wanted to. I used to be a distance
runner years ago, but have lacked the motivation to get back into it.
Here is something you might find helpful:

These are week by week podcasts of the running program, so you don't have to keep looking at your watch to time the intervals. Very helpful if you run outside, at night, like me.

There is a thread for this in the want to lose 51-100 lbs. group that would welcome you as new additions (even if you are not in the want to lose 51-100 lb. category). There are about a 1/2 dozen or so of us in various stages of the C25K- and we just got another new member today. I am in week 8 and it have been very motivating/inspirational for me.
Good Luck- it feels really great to be in good enough shape to run!!!
I'm *so* up for this! Its a nine week plan, right? So we'll be finishing in march, perfect =]

Im in love with those Robert Ullrey podcasts! (linked in post # 9) Its like running with a personal trainer - he tells you what to do, gives encouragement and the whole thing is set to pretty upbeat techno music. Theres a different podcast for each of the nine weeks.
I'm up for it... I will be getting started on the 5th... Here is my current 8 week plan. This was taken from Runner's World. You can read it in full here. Anyway if any of you are near Greenville SC we can maybe meet up... Well, what ever happens I hope everyone meets their goal.
Hey all!! Just finished week two! week three looks so much harder! yikes i'm nervous but ready. Good luck to everyone starting monday!
Started week one today. Will run again on Thursday and Saturday. Always feels good afterwards.
I'm still going - I'm doing week 1 over again, so I've got two more runs to go. I run on tuesdays, thursdays and either saturday or sunday depending on my weekend schedule.
today is day 2 of week 3. The first workout i was sweating like crazy! Hope this eventually gets easier!
And week 1 is DONE! I did it a 4th time and I managed to get through the whole thing without having to stop, without exhausting myself, and without having any problem with my breathing or cramps etc! Last time I got such a bad stitch I had to abort and limp home halfway through... but not today. I know it's still early days but I'm thrilled! I was going to repeat W1 again but I don't need to now. 4 times was enough... and I can feel it getting easier. On to Week 2 on Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for weightloss, that's happening too! I started Couch to 5K on Jan 1st at 202lbs, and 8 days later I'm at 199.2! I haven't lost three pounds in a week in MONTHS!
Great job kajkit! I wish I lived someplace warm so I could run outside too! Congrats on breaking into "one"derland! Going to do my second run of week one now.
kajikit: great job! and congrats on the weight loss too! i love when you start something new and you get the quick initial weight loss!!
I was actaully really surprised with yesterday's workout. I was exhausted after the first one and didn't think I'd make it through a second. I made it through without too much of an issue excpet for the last 30 seconds of running. It made me feel so much stronger! I loved it! Good luck everyone!
I started this program on Tuesday, and I'm loving it so far! (Of course, I've only run 2 days on my T-Th-Su plan, but off to a good start.
) Even though it's definitely winter, we've been running outside, since the asphalt is better on my knees. It's much easier and more pleasant to run outside than I would have thought.
The hubs has been running for about 2 years now, and started out with this program. He's been asking me to run with him for a while, and I was finally ready to say "yes." It's great to have someone to run with on my beginning runs--he's running with me all this week, and from next week on, he'll run with me as his maintenance runs on Tuesdays, as he trains for a marathon.
Good luck to everyone! I know we can do it.
