Where do you lose the weight from?
Back when I danced, everyone told me that you lose weight from the top down, which was why ballerinas don't have boobs. Not a very reliable source probably-- and a lot of girls were rails because of prepubescent anorexia. But has anyone noticed the weight coming off unevenly?
I'm wondering because I don't really exercise like I should, don't do any toning or strength training. I always figured I was fine living in the city, because I walk well over a mile everyday and never use elevators. I know you shouldn't but I can lose weight from diet alone, and definitely prefer to! I plan to lose maybe 15 pounds at most, but I'm afraid the ballerina myth is true and I'm gonna get a small, saggy chest. Now that I quit dancing, I am tremendously fond of my tremendous breasts... should I be worried?
You lose weight from where your body chooses, regardless of exercise. Yes, lifting weights will make you look better, and cardio will help improve your c-v health, and both will increase your burn so you can eat more and get a better nutrition AND still have a deficit.
Ballerinas don't have boobs, ass, thighs, etc. so they aren't an example of anything except extreme undereating (I'm speaking generally of course - I'm sure there are some healthy ballerinas).
Generally, the last place you gained was the first you lose, and the first place you gained will be the last you lose. So I don't lose in my lower body, but my upper body gets a lot smaller pretty soon into losing weight (I'm a pear).
ha don't be too worried you might loose a little weight in the chest but not a lot. You would have to be severely underweight to loose your boobs. :) Try vinyasa yoga for strength; it is really wonderful and helped me tremendously i am starting to see definition. I always hated lifting... found it too boring. good luck!
Thanks for the reassurance! I've lost a few pounds already, and I think I see it a bit in my face, my stomach is definitely flatter... now I can stop suspiciously eyeing the girls in the bathroom mirror every morning :D
Everyone loses weight differently, so nothing is guaranteed. I lose weight from all over, not just one spot.
Weight seems most noticeably to come off the face first, but it depends on your body. I always want it to come off my thighs first, but the thing is, my thighs have a lot of fat, so I know that I just don't see it coming off, eventhough it is.
As for a ballerina's body, ballerinas are tall drinks of water without chests because: a) they don't eat as girls, and their bodies develop used to it, and b) because 5-foot DD-sized girls aren't picked to go to ballet school to become serious dancers.
Same reason models are all tall and famished, and jockeys are all short and tiny, and female news reporters are all barbies. So the myth really doesn't stand up to reality.
Your chest may go down if there's a lot of fat in your breasts and along your back/chest (non-boob) area. If your breasts are more fleshy and dense, they'll go down less. Do push-ups or other exercises to strengthen your pecs if you want a nice chest, whether or not your bra size changes.
I am one of the rare women who apparently doesn't lose from the chest first. I've lost 57 pounds, but only gone from a 40DD to a 38DD, despite going from a size 18/20 in pants to a size 10.
Thighs first place i lose belly and boobies are last.
I do ballet and I've always wondered that and asked my mom who's a doc, and the answer is that our bodies are 'smart' enough to use the fat around the areas we don't use as much as the others.. for dancers all the heavy lifting is in ur core and **LOWER BODY** so u tend to build a lot of muscle there primarily and lose fat less prominently (although u do) than the fat and muscle u lose quite fast in ur upper body. The way you use your body, it'll smartly construct itself to work with as efficiently as possible. The human body is pretty darn amazing :)
The first place I lose weight is from my stomach and rear - precisely where I don't want to lose anymore; if I could spot-reduce, it would be the thighs, hips, and upper arms. But alas, it's once my butt is flat that I start to lose from those spots.
first- chest/boobs, shoulders and arms
last- face and tummy
First to lose: upper body, boobs, face
Last to lose: thighs, bum :(
I've got quite a bony upper body now but still the thunder thighs and big bum!
Man, my face does not lose weight anywhere as quickly as I would like.
If I had a tendency, I would say I lose weight from 'out to in'
My first couple weeks I went down a ring size and my shoes got loose. Now the rest of my arms and back are starting to show some change too : )
I lose around my waist first. Unfortunately I get a "blow up doll" appearance that last for a few weeks. Right now I'm in the middle of it. I'll lose wieght in my belly and face next. I don't lose much in my boobs ever. The smallest bra size I have ever worn is a 34D even when I wore a size 0/2. I wish I could keep some of it in my butt. It gets practically concave when I weigh what I should.
Edited for spelling
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
