Can I Lose Weight Simply by drinking only water and exercising daily?

Quote  |  Reply

I've done yo-yo diets before and I want to be careful not to go on a restrictive diet only to gain the weight back once I reach my goal weight and stop dieting. Another concern that I have is that I had gastric bypass almost 7 years ago, and while I can eat quite a bit in a day (2000 calories or so), I'm not sure how much I' actually absorbing from what I eat. Having said that, I don't want to do anything too restrictive.

Before bypass I was 310lbs, I got down to 185lbs before I had 2 children, and I returned to my pre-pregnancy weight only to gain weight back since. I now weigh 200lbs.

Can I lose weight at a good pace by exercising at 35-45 min per day and drinking only water for fluid intake? I still eat the same foods as before but I try to incorporate more variety instead of starving myself. Will this method work or are my efforts to exercise and cut out the empty calories from sugar wasted?

I think it is possible.. I used to exercise and drink water as my only form f liquid intake to quench my thirst. I did lose 4lbs in about two months.

That is also how I lost my first ten pounds however it did take me almost a year. So, yes I think it is possible but it will rake quite a bit longer.

Never tried it! I am concerned about the brownies to the side of this forum that keep blinking at me.  I am craving food hard right now.  And with me staying up this late, I am destined to jack up my sleep patterns.  This is going to hurt me brutally.

as long as you burn more calories than you take in you should lose weight. i suggest tracking your normal food consumption for a week or two just to see what you are actually eating. i found that i ate a LOT more calories than i would have ever guessed.

water is the best choice when trying to lose weight...drink as much as you can everyday..cutting out refined sugars is the best thing to do...choosing good cereals that are low in sugar, whole grain breads and pastas, lots of fruit and veggies and eating more white meat then red is good too..if you added weight training to your exercise routine 2-3 times a week and then following it with cardio will really benefit you, because with weight training you burn lots of calories and then once you follow up with cardio you burn even more...good luck! :D

bre, insomia?? Try looking into melatonin pills (I take 3mg every night). Natural sleep aide. And also look for my forum to complain about CC Ad's... bc you're right there is lots of bad ones on here; they need to be more careful as to what they decide to allow. Free site or not.

Anrota, first: congrats on your lighter lifestyle! Congrats on your two kids, and congrats on sticking to it. It hardly sounds like you are yo-yo dieting. More or less it just sounds like you are struggling a bit.

I have a couple of questions: 1) How tall are you? 2) Do you find you have much excess skin or dermal fat from losing 100lbs? 3) What is your goal weight? 185?

Btw, to answer your question: yes you will lose, but it will be gradual. Sounds like you're eating to maintain, remember you will need to burn about 500 cals a day to lose 1.5lbs a week so that equates to about 45mins of some good effort on an elliptical every day. Since you should always have an off day from working out this is why exercise alone is a bad idea. You will also have to pay special attention to the cals/foods you are eating to make sure you don't start eating more in order to lose. You may even need to change your diet anyhow... depending on your exercise choices.

For me exercising helped me get on my diet better actually. I life weights 3 tdays and perform cardio 3 days. My diet is much different on those cardio days than on weights days (I take a lot more cals, and it's more carb-based). I know that in order to have peak performance I need to eat certain foods. By the time I meet my "required" foods I have no energy or desire to eat other stuff. (Don't get me wrong about 1-2 times a month I eat a bag of cookies, or a slice of cake, or something yummy) lol.

G'luck!

I'm 5'7" and my goal weight is 155. I do have excess skin and could use a body lift when this is all over with despite the exercise efforts.
