How do you lose weight on your stomach and muffin tops??

Quote  |  Reply

I have been going to the gym lately and have noticed a difference in my butt and legs but don't seem to be losing weight on my stomach or 'muffin tops'. Can anyone give me any tips and advice about how to target this specific area? Smile

I wish I knew...but what did you do to notice in your butt and legs?? I feel like I am not improving in any areas and bust my behind at the gym!

You cannot tell your body where to lose fat.  For most people, the last fat you put on will be the first to come off.  It's genetically determined. Sorry!

The only way to guarantee loss in your belly is to lose it all over too.

Cardio, cardio, cardio.  It's the deep, dark secret to losing that fat all over your body.  No such thing as Spot Training (targeting as you called it).  Best bet is to make sure you're doing the cardio thing at least 6 days a week.  Try intervals (don't need to do HIIT right off the bat tho).  Run for a minute, walk for two, run for one, walk for two, for at least 30 minutes straight (not counting your warm up and cool down).   Strength train to build that muscle and do your core workouts.  Patience is key.  It will go away!!!

Unfortunately..cardio is the best answer for that. I say unfortunately, because I don't know how you feel about it, but I hate cardio!

You have to bring about a general fat burn as you're exercising in order to be rid of the fat layer that lies over your muscles. This is when you'll see a flatter stomach and more tone everywhere else.

It doesn't hurt to do some core work, but without cardio and of course, weight loss in general, you won't see what you want.

As others have said, people store fat differently, so even as you lose weight and do cardio, the stomach may be the last part to really improve if that is where you store the most weight.

Just hang in there, it will happen!

yup sorry to say cardio is key. I noticed my muffin tops were going away a couple weeks after I started doing cardio. I was working out 3x's a week. I've since upped my cals and started working out 4-5x's a week. The M-tops arent compeletely gone yet but they are going. try adding in ab excercises to strengthing the muscles underneith to support the fat on top and strength train too.

Thanks guys for all your advice.

I do a spinning class every week which has toned my lower half, and I do a combat class once a week. I also go to the gym and use the cross trainer but must admit i do not venture near the treadmill! I have been told about the run for a minute, walk for a minute routine etc but never really gave it much thought. Im a bit nervous about trying to run as i dont think i will be any good at it and will probably collapse after the first minute! I guess that is the way forward if I am to see better results.

Its just frustrating as i want to see results now! Im so impatient! Smile
