CAN NOT lose weight..is it my Yaz?
All throughout high school i ranged between 113-125lb. I was and still am 5'5". After I graduated I started taking Yaz and I blew UP! I've been between 140-160lb.
I dance anywhere between 3-4 hours a week. I run 2-3 times a week. At my new school I also do pilates, yoga and kickboxing. I have a horrible stomach "pooch" and it's so irrating. I work out more than the genetically skinny girls but I think my medication is making me fat. Is this possible?
I brought this up because I was recently cut from my school's cheer squad almost completely because of my weight and lack of uniforms in my size =(. HELP? [i also don't want to quit birth control completely but am willing to try different things]
You say nothing about what/how much you are eating. What/how much are you eating?
Also, are you still in high school? Even if your height doesn't change, your body does - sometimes that causes weight gain, and can be perfectly normal.
I agree with micha - it's much more likely to be a result of how much you are eating, not the medication. BCPs can cause water retention, in some cases, but in general will not make you gain fat. But they might make you hungrier, leading to overeating, which then results in weight gain.
In answer to your questions, I agree with the above posters.
In reference to Yaz, I just saw a commercial recruiting participants to sue Yaz and Yasmine for their damaging side effects. I was a bit suprised to see this considering their apparent popularity, but you may want to do a bit of research if you're concerned about it.
when taking oral contraceptives, usually you are told that it can cause an increase in appetite because of the increase in hormones and such...if you are getting more hungry than you used to and eat more snacks than you should, try snacking on the more nutrient dense stuff and less energy dense stuff. Try eating high volume, high fiber foods that fill you up more and keep you full longer, without making you spend too many calories during non-meal times.
When I did take BCP I would promptly gain 5lbs, when I stopped taking them the weight would come off. I have a feeling that they probably increase appetite and make it harder to lose weight. I stopped taking them after my doctor felt that I really should be using more natural methods.
I actually have started eating what i consider to be a lot better. In high school I almost completely ate Lean Cuisines and Boca/Morningstar products and since I started college I eat spinach salads, beans, occasionally tofu, lots of soy products/beans and eggs. Occassionally get ice cream or brownies but I don't take like enormous portions and dont do it often. For breakfast/snacks I eat fruit or cereal. I have no clue what's going on with my body and I really can't eat crap during the off meal time hours because I only have fruit and water in my mini fridge.
I actually ended up losing weight on Yasmin (similar to Yaz). It didn't seem to increase my appetite at all, and actually decreased my tendency to retain water. However - other birth control pills all resulted in me gaining weight, mostly due to a voracious appetite. It's not so much that the pill made me gain weight, it's more like the pill made me constantly hungry, and the excess calories resulted in significant weight gain.
Even though you are eating healthier foods you may be taking in a lot more calories than you think you are. Log your cals.
