First of all congrats on your baby, and welcome to CC!
I have two daughters and I am still trying to get off the baby weight from my first. With my first I gained 50 lbs (but it was still a healthy pregnancy). I only breastfed her for a couple of months and then my milk dried up. I also went on the Depo shot right around the same time. I gained 30 lbs from that. After over a year of being on the shot, I figured out it was the cause for all my weight gain. So, after I stopped taking it, I lost like 10 lbs.
A few months later, I got pregnant with #2. I only gained 20 lbs with her. I breastfed her up to six months, all the while I was gaining weight. I gained almost 20 lbs!! It was insane! Her pediatrician had the same thing happen to her. As soon as I stopped breastfeeding though I dropped a few lbs.
So to make a long story even longer, it is possible to breastfeed and not lose weight. A lot of women won't lose weight until they wean.
I had baby #2 for me just 3 months ago. I gained 55lbs this time and so far I have dropped 40lbs. The first 30 flew off...after that I have had to work at it. I just joined last week and have lost nearly 3lbs now.
I am breastfeeding also (I pump though because of an oversupply issue).
Honestly I think its harder for me too lose weight because I am hungry and thirstier a LOT more often during breastfeeding but it can be done still it just takes a little more awareness and effort.
With my first I lost 50lbs by 8 weeks post partum...so it is obviously taking me more time to get the weight off this time...but I do also have less time to go for walks this time too with having 2 young kids now...so I can't really say its entirely breastfeeding.
I just had my 3rd child 4 months ago and YES I can't drop weight very easily until I wean my kids. I know it's supposed to be the opposite but I've not found it to be that way for me. Why is that? I wish I knew. But, I think it has to do with being hungrier and maybe even my body just holding on to the extra weight "just in case". I just don't know. I don't have a lot of extra weight this time around -I was more careful during the pregnancy but it doesn't seem to be any easier to take off. I was a surrogate for a friend my last pregnancy -carried her biological babies, (yes, twins). -and just as a comparison I gained the most weight with that pregnancy and it came off FAST -I think because I wasn't nursing.
Calorie count seems to be helping. Although I do have a question. I don't know how many calories to aim for. I actually have an UNDERsupply problem so I'm hesitant to cut too much and risk loosing the supply I have. The magic number seems to be adding 500 calories but that does not work for me. So, I'm trying to add about 200/day to my daily calorie goal for weight loss. I'll see how that goes. I think I'm loosing weight but oh so slowly.
Anyway, that's my experience. I'm glad there are others here in the same situation.
I had my second baby boy just five months ago and lost the first 20 lbs within six weeks post-partum...then was stuck at 155 for the longest time until I got back to the gym in July. I have been going about 3-4 times a week spending about 30 mins on cardio and 30 mins on light weights. As a result, I lost five pounds!
By August I was at 150 and stuck there and now that I have been on CC, since 8/27, I have actually lost another 2.8 lbs!! I am also nursing...so it is possible to lose weight but it does take work and consistency which I am hoping to keep up. You definitely have to watch what you eat and keep the excercise up I think to make it work for you! I just wish it was a faster and easier process...
edit:
Still wondering if I need to add my breastfeeding calories burned or if it is already accounted for based on my profile stats??
I have four kids in six years. It certainly is a challenge to lose the weight. I tend to gain a lot when I'm pregnant upwards of 50. I find the first 20lb are gone before two weeks, the remaining 30+ creep away ever so slowly.
This is my fourth round of losing baby fat. It's taking the longest yet. I breastfeed and I can't say that it's worked wonders in the weight loss department. I think the thing is patience and discipline. It really does take time.
Also, there is the reality of me accepting that I will never be what I was when before I had kids, it's just not going to happen! Not for me at least. I'm learning to be happy regardless and just do my best.
My last daughter was 9lbs 9oz...so you can just imagine how HUGE I was!! Here's proof:

It can be done, it just takes a little more time, effort, and patience to lose the pregnancy weight. You can do it!! :) :)
