Am I losing too fast...(Aunt Flo is an element)

Quote  |  Reply

So, I've bee working hard for about two months to lose those last 15lb. Last month I went from 141.6lb to 139(not very impressive). I had my period last week, which ended this morning, and I when I woke up to do my weekly weigh in I was 135. I am rather confused. Was I only fluctuating from 139-141 this past week because of Flo? And is 135 my real weight?

Hello?

Sometimes your period makes you retain water, and when it's done, you lose that water. As for your "real weight" - your weight varies over the course of a day, week, and month, regardless of dieting - there is no such thing as your "real weight."

If you weigh yourself at the same time (morning, naked, after the toilet, before shower or breakfast, say) each time, you will be able to see a trend - steady, up, or down. But your weight on any given day is going to change. So don't look at the day's weight - just the trend.

Thanks! I usually weigh at the same time ( and with all the factors you mentioned). I just wasnt sure whether to log it or not. If it was just afluke I mean.

Ditto the "trend" comment.  I'm 53 and going through times of being regular and times of 40-60-90 days without a cycle.  I "lost" 6 pounds the first 2 weeks on CC, up one the next week - had a period after 53 days of not so I did suspect that the initial 6 pounds was at least partially due to water and all that goes with pre-menopause.  Overall, I am down 5 in 3 weeks which is in keeping with 1 to 1.5 pound loss per week.  Still too early to tell and I've been gradually reducing calories - I did not go from what I was eating to CC limit in one fell swoop.  My mantra is "baby steps", eat healthy, eat when I'm hungry and have the occasional decadent treat.  I think it is important to relax and not get too hyped about the scale.

I'd watch it over a few days to be sure.  Log it for sure, because it helps you see the trend.  But yeah, I gain quite a bit of water weight durning that time (and the week before).  And don't stress, your at my goal weight!

Yup. I usually put on 5 pounds right before my period and they tend to drop off dramatically 2-3 days after it starts.

Ya I think I'll do that....I just want to be sure its not a fluke :)

and dont forget it could be a fluke, I did this several weeks ago, I was at 163 and then I got on the scale the next week and it had dropped to 158. Whoa!!! 5lbs??? I was a bit  concerned as well. I actually didnt log it, and checked it again the next morning. I was 161. Only 2lbs, and I slowed over the next couple of weeks. If it is really out of character, sometimes waiting a day and rechecking can bring it back into perspective........our bodies vary up to 2lbs throughout the day etc....I cant remember if it was post flo or not........hmmm

UPDATE:

I've been at 135 all week, but i'm still not in the black yet. I hope this is real :)

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
  1. Plot your weight curve
  2. Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
  3. Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
