Losing Fat in the Wrong Places!!!

Quote  |  Reply
For 5 months, I have been exercising (running and some weight lifting) and cutting calories to lose some weight...more importantly, lose fat.  I know that spot reduction does not exist and that I have to lose body fat overall in order to lose weight.  SO that being said, I now have fabulous legs and arms because of the running and weight lifting.  The fat "tire" around my abdomen however still stays.  And the more I run each day, the more the fat around my thighs disappear but the fat around my tummy is still there.  My body's doing the spot reduction on it's own!! Why won't the fat around my tummy disappear along with everywhere else?!

Sorry to tell you this but it is probably genetics.  Abdominal workouts can help make the area more shapely, though, and help suck it in so that it appear less large.
Cry Poooh.....
around the tummy is the last place for the fat to fall off
I have the same problem. I thought that once I lowered my body fat under 20% that my abdomen would at least look proportional. Nope...my legs are strong and lean, my upper body is either muscle-y (arms) or bony (back and collarbone).  I still have a muffin top. It really is a set thing. If I find something that works, I'll let you know.
I am a runner. And running is great for your body to get in good looking shape, but it does not work out your abs or your glutes at all. Running only works the legs and thighs mostly. I do a good ab workout after I run, it works for me.
Thanks so much Smile...I'm thinking maybe I've finally hit my plateau? I'll keep working on the ab workouts!
running does work your abdominals, as long as you run in the proper form.  i.e. no slouching; shoulders above knees, etc.  Running does work the midsection though for sure
^^^I agree, I can get sore in my core after a good run, but not sore in my legs at all.

I'm glad to see I am not the only one with the lower ab flab problem. I think you just have to be aware of your abs while you run. Give them a squeeze every once in a while, check your posture after every mile -- something like that. A few ab workouts after a good run wouldn't hurt, either!
