losing, gaining, and trying to lose again.
Its not even that I eat that badly like I dont really eat fast food, subway here and then, but no burgers or fries or anything I just tend to eat a lot. When I go to starbucks with my friends I still get tea and just put milk in it, or get the skinny lattes. I still run or go to the gym about 3 times a week, when I run I run 4k and I my gym workouts are usually and hour to an hour and a half.
Everyday I say okay "Im starting for good today." I never end up sticking to it. How do you get over the 'yes I let myself gain a significant amount of weight' factor and just move on?
Has anyone lost weight and then gained some back, and now theyre trying to get it off again? What are some things that help you?
I know exactly how you feel. My weight actually shot up 45 lbs. since July, mainly because I was continuing to undereat. I was really heavy growing up and then decided to cut my calorie intake drastically when I was 16. I lost around 80-90 lbs. in a matter of months. After that, every time I upped my calories just a little (for example, from 500 to 800) I would gain weight. Finally, this past year, although still eating below 1200 calories, my weight just ballooned.
Now I am going to the gym 5-6X a week and lifting weights 3X. I have just started eating around 1500-1600 calories a day. With the exercise at least (and perhaps also the increased calories) I have lost a few pounds and have noticed my body slimming down a bit.
I don't know how you lost weight the first time, but if it was accomplished in an unhealthy way, there will be a reckoning.
My best advice to you is to get yourself healthy with exercise and a good number of calories and the weight will be secondary. It will just fall in place.
In the meantime, I know how frustrating that weight gain can be. You remember yourself such a short time ago, wearing anything you liked. You see photos of that period and this great wave of nostalgia hits you. It is difficult to get through but you will.
I'm going through the same thing you are, so if you need someone to vent to or another source of motivation and support, don't hesitate to write :)
in 2001 i weighed 270lbs... i decided i wanted to get down to 185... so i lost 71lbs.. got to 199.. and thought this is too hard.. i was 21.. pretty happy with everything, life was good, so i got comfortable with that weight and over the years gained it back plus some... so in december of 2007 my boss decides he was taking us on a company team building meeting to florida and the first mission was to run a mile... 17 minutes later and not being able to even finish i decided it was time to lose it again... weighing in at 283lbs on december 7th.. i started avoiding fast food.. haven't ate it since december 6th. haven't had a soft drink since december 6th... had two deserts since then, drink at least a gallon of water a day.. run a mile every day now, saturdays i do 3 miles, i race go-karts every saturday for an hour on a road course, so far i've lost 53lbs and am starting to realize that i'm a lot closer this time to achieving my goal than i was last time... the first time i did it just by food management and no weight training or running, now i'm combining the two and have had a lot more success. i think the biggest thing you need to think about is how hard it is to lose the weight and how much i really don't want to do this my entire life.. first time was hard enough, second time has been harder, and if i happen to gain all this weight back, it will be extremely harder the third time. luckily i'm only 27 years old and my body is reacting appropriately with all of the changes i've made to my lifestyle.
