losing motivation...scared!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi...

I am really starting to lose motivation. I so badly want to get healthy and get to a healthy weight, but I just feel like I can't do it. I love that my clothes are fitting better and that I am fitting into smaller sizes. I love that I have to get rid of clothes because they are too big. I love that I fit into a size 12 yesterday, the first time in soooooo long. I love that I can run longer on the tredmil and go longer in other workouts. I love that I have found a career path that I love...but I just can't get my butt on the tredmil and I haven't logged my meals or activites in a long time.

When I was growing up, my father was very abusive and he called me fat pretty much every day. He would take huge portions for himself, and the rest of the family, give me tiny portions and then yell at me when I asked for seconds. btw...I was so far from being overweight in elementary school...I was tiny. But the self fuffiling profecy kicked in...and I gained weight. and I kept gaining. at my highest, I was 215 lbs.  I can still hear him call me all those names and tell me that I am fat. I have since gotten down to 170. I want to lose about 35 more pounds.

Remember all of the great things that you have accomplished so far.  There are so many positive things that you gone through and you are soooooo close to your ultimate goal.  I think this is a phase that we may all go through but working through it will be even more fulfilling than giving up.  I have a saying that I really rely on just for these moments I call it "Fake it till you make it".  I make myself enjoy what I'm doing and do it with a smile.  I remind myself of what I've accomplished.  One good motivator is to keep one item of the old clothes on hand so that you can put them on from time to time so that you can really see the results of what you accomplished.  The key is to finding something, no matter how small, to get exited about. Once you find the one thing, just remind yourself all day how happy you are with what you've done.

This really seems to help me out quite a bit and I hope it helps you too.

I wish you the very best...

Isn't it wonderful that you can fit into smaller sized clothes? That's awesome!

Make a list of all that has changed since you started eating healthy.... and post it on your mirror!

YOU CAN DO THIS!

=^..^= MOLLY

thank you for your responses. I try to remember all the things that I have accomplished, but it just doesn't seem to help.

Well I think it is pretty stinkin cool how far you have come so far!

But we can sit here and tell you how awesome you are and everything (which you are by the way) but the only one who can truly motivate yourself is you! You have to analyze why you are doing this.  You have to want it!  You have to really believe that you are worth it...because you are, and you are given an opportunity to make your life better and thats what you are doing!  Getting healthy is something that is very important, and if it is important to you, then you will continue to work at it! I know its hard at times, but just keep your ultimate goal in mind and how you will feel once you have accomplished that goal!  It's so amazing! Just take how cool it is from what you have done so far and magnify it times 10!

I don't know if you like to read, but there is a book that I have that I love! And it helped me to change the way I think about a lot of stuff....If you have time give it a gander...."7 Habits of Highly Effective People" By Stephen Covey....it really changed my view on life and I am so much more proactive than ever!

Well, I hope that you gain your inspiration from somewhere....one thing that helps me get back on track is writing down a big list of the reasons WHY I want to do this....I like to go back and read it and add on to it too!

I hope some of this helps, even if just a little bit, but we are all here for you and we have faith, so have faith in yourself and you will do GREAT!

Maybe you need a little break?  Perhaps instead of working on losing, work on maintaining for a little while.  Enjoy what you've achieved so far, get back to logging but just with the intent of maintaining.  You'll get to eat a little more than you did while you were losing and it will be a new thing you have to learn, which will get your brain engaged.  Once you've gotten a handle on maintaining, then you can decide when (or if) you want to start losing again.

But you don't want to slide back and gain, so learning to maintain is very important and would give you a break from what sometimes seems like endless dieting.

You can do it!
You've done so much so far. you can totally do it! think about how proud of yourself you'll be when you achieve your goal!
