Losing the Tummy........... i know i know

Quote  |  Reply
I just read a thread about how sometimes running will not  get rid of fat in the abdomen, because the body stores the energy that it needs somewhere else..... or something of that nature. The reason i am dieting, Running 30 minutes every weekday, and weight training 3 times a week (mainly upper body) is to get rid of the fat on and around my adomen, as well as tone up my arms and chest. Is this an effective method? Is there anything i am not doing that would be beneficial?

I don't run, but I am really nutters on an elliptical to the tune of 15-20 miles a week and have only been doing upper body stuff. I have had no luck reducing belly fat, just building muscle and in 10 weeks the upper body changes have been dramatic but no waist line changes. Just personal experience of course.

I took my 10 week rest and starting again today, adding in full leg routines too along with following that burn the fat feed the muscle nutrition program. I'll give that 10 weeks and see how I end up!

pilates yoga core exercises! they work make big differences quickly

3 x a week 30 min dedicate it to your stomach and youll see results.

circuit train and incoporate core exercises with a balance of upperbody exercises.

Interval training will burn that fat off!  You should be doing a few cardio sessions a week as interval training - you can do it on the elliptical, treadmill or spin class.
We all know we need cardio to loose fat, but we also need to build muscle.  I would consider adding some great ab workouts to your routine.  Not just sit-ups, but many different moves that will incorporate all your abdominal muscles.  Hang in there, you can do it.

Try cutting down on salt, sugar - and although I hate to say it - carbs - for a week or so... it might get your tummy to flatten up a bit since you won't be retaining as much water.

Don't worry! Jogging will help you lose your tummy fat! I hate doing abs and I have the same problem like you do - fat around the waist. It will take a while before you notice, but your lower ab will be more and more firm. It works for me....I  hope it will for you, too! Let us know how it goes.
An old bodybuilder saying is that "Abs are built in the kitchen, not in the gym". In other words, the only thing you can and need to do to lose the belly is work out and lose bodyfat while retaining muscle mass.

There's no point in training the abs more or differently from any other slow-twitch muscle. What you want to do is go to a whole-body routine for the weights using compound lifts - effective weight work using large muscles burns much, much more fat than cardio does.
obviously you are genetically predetermined to store a bit of fat on your belly (like so many people)
but here are your best weapons in my opinion:

*interval training (find out how to do it properly)
*a weights routine involving challenging, COMPOUND moves (presses, lunges, squats, pull down/ups)
*CORE exercises - not to "shrink the fat around ur stomach" cos thats not possible but you can TRAIN your transverse abdominis muscles to be able to hold your stomach in better (so things like plank etc)
*LOTS of good carbs, proteins and fats

keep your routines short and intense and get lots of sleep
and remember some fat is ok!! im sure your sexy!
another word about abs, after i started doing ab exercises PROPERLY i.e REALLY REALLY squeezing my abs flat and BREATHING while i was in the exercise, i started seeing real good results - strength and a much much better ability to suck my tummy in
