Losing "Vanity Pounds" (Closed Group)
I looked and looked around, but couldn't find a good forum for people who are just trying to lose "vanity pounds". Everybody's trying to lose a lot of weight, or trying to maintain a healthy weight. But I can't seem to find anybody who's looking to get rid of the little "soft spots" here and there and just make their body and life a little healthier and look a little better. ;)
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a group for people who feel they are in pretty good condition already, and they can go about their lives without extra attention to diet/exercise. This is NOT a group for people who are looking to "lose weight," but instead- as stated in the title- to lose the extra "vanity weight" (the extra flab here and fluff there). This is pretty much a group for people trying to tone up. Henceforth, "Goal Weight" is no longer included in the member stats. This is about gaining muscle/toning, not losing weight.

jewel_girl is the winner for the clean-eating challenge! She whooped us all with her astounding talents to say no to fast food and say yet to healthier alternatives! Even with a slight splurge at the end, she says she wouldn't have traded that moment with her daughter sharing New York Fries for anything! Congratulations, Jamie!
Current Challenge: Add up all your hours/minutes of cardio activity. You can add up everything you do at the gym (bike- 86 min, elliptical, 138 min, etc, etc, etc) AND you can add up anything extra you do. Anything from going out to the club (as long as your dancing, not just trolling! ;] ), swimming, bike-riding, roller blading, anything. Just try to keep it honest with the fact that it's cardio. If you walk to work every day (like me!), I don't think you can count those 15-20 minutes as cardio since they're not getting your heart rate up that high. If you're doing something where you can still keep a conversation going, but you have to breathe a lot heavier, you're in the activity range we're talking!

Original Post by ducklingerthank:Checking in early because I already know what I'll be doing for the rest of the week anyway.
Monday-Rowing(90mins but stopping and starting so call it 45 mins cardio)+Cycling-40mins
Tuesday- Treadmill, stepper, cross trainer, bike - 60 mins
Thursday - Spinning - 45
Friday - Spinning -45
Saturday - Spinning - 60
Sunday - Spinning - 45
340mins?
Plus 270 mins strength training/calisthenics
Wow! that's inspiring! I simply don't have time for that much... :( but I am doing more. you must feel great!
I would say that you are the big winner!!
great job!!
Thanksm I didn't think it was going to be that much because of all the spinning being 45 mins as opposed to an actual hour of aerobics but when you look at it as over 500 minutes of exercise it does seem a lot...
I still don't get a burn of over 2400 ever though and on the wednesday when I just did body pump which I logged as 20mins hard weights, 20mins light weights, 20mins calisthenics I got under 1900.
I start with sedentary and add in all the things I listed above but never add in anything like walking to shops, cycling to lectures (except the monday one which is 20 mins each way because its at the hospital and its a big hill).
I do wonder if my burn is actually higher than this since Im not really lying around for all the time Im not exercising but my job definitely isn't strenuous. Im a student and do a lot of sitting in lectures, sitting and reading, sitting and typing. And my weight loss seems to follow with what my eat/burn meter deficit works out to be.
I get so hungry though with all that exercise but still don't burn that many calories!! :(
Since I got it wrong last time, is there somewhere Im not looking or is there definitely no challenge this week? What happened to everybody?
Hmm, doesn't look like there was a challenge this week...
I'm still here, but it doesn't seem like many people are still in the group!
I'm still here too, but a little disappointed also. I would check in every day, but doesn't seem like anything is happening. no challenge... no leader.... not many people.
Maybe if it hadn't been closed, we'd have a few more that were actually interested, who knows.
I think we'll have to start a different group, same people, different name, & invite everybody....
any takers for a leader????
I started a small group of my own asking for a buddy or two and about 5 people replied so I closed it then 4 didn't post again so reopened it. Now there's 4 of us. But I think reopening and removing people from the list is definitely in order if they don't post.
How about we just do a challenge and whoever is still posting does it?
# portions fruit and veg? Starting monday 10th?
Yes! I think the # portions of fruit and veg sounds like a good challenge!
I think we should definitely try to keep this group running while missgendale is away, I'm sure she'll come back at some point, she's probably just really busy :)
Monday=Brocolli,lettuce,2clementines,apple,hu ge salad w. spinach, lettuce, celery and cucumber (8)
Tuesday=Juice,huge salad w. lettuce,celery,cucumber,spring onion,2 clementines,apple,onion,strawberries (9)
Okay I'm checking in early, because tomorrow I'm going away on vacation and will have no access to a computer for a week! So if I don't post it's not because I don't want to be in the group, just that I'm away :)
Okay, so this week I didn't eat as many fruits and vegetables as I would have liked, and I'm not too sure what constitutes a portion, but here goes...
Monday: 1/2 a banana, 10 green grapes, 4 large strawberries, vegetable omelette - with veggies such as onion, mushroom and green pepper. (6)
Tuesday: 1 large salad with green peppers, onions, red peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, olives and mushrooms, 3 pieces of melon, 1/4 of an avocado, stir fried vegetables -mostly green peppers, mushrooms and onions. (10-ish)
Wednesday: 1/2 a banana, vegetable sushi, 1/2 cup of guacamole. (3)
Thursday: 1 apple. (1)
Friday: vegetable fried rice - with peas, cilantro and onions, 1 apple. (4)
So as you can see, I kind of fell off the bandwagon towards the end of the week...
Wednesday-Homemade smoothie w. 5 portions of fruit, half onion, handful cherry tomatoes, 2 clementines, big green salad-lettuce,cucumber,celery,spring onions, strawberries = 13
Thursday-Cranberry and raspberry juice, baked beans, banana, apple, marinara sauce = 5
Friday-Celery, banana, cranberry and raspberry juice, chickpeas+sweet potato+onion in homemade curry(2), spinach = 6
Saturday-Banana, apple, satsuma, veg tempura, thai veg curry, mixed steamed veg, courgettes in soy = 8
Monday: apple, banana, strawberries, melon, romaine lettuce
Tuesday- apple, banana, romaine lettuce, melon, green beans, mushroom
Wednesday- apple, banana, romaine lettuce, potato, strawberries
Thursday- apple, banana, romaine lettuce
Friday- Lettuce, Potato, banana
Saturday- Lettuce and carrots, broccoli and carrots, potato, cabbage
Yum.. :D
Today-dried apricots, romaine lettuce, cucumber, celery, apple, banana, mushrooms, 1/2 onion = 8
My Grand Total=57
And, since Greenturtle will be away I think I'll project hers to a full week by dividing by 5 and timesing by 7 -> 34
And Skinnyogi is on 25 I think but has one day more to go (I didn't count potato because I think that's a starchy vegetable not normally counted as veg unless anyone disagrees)
Anyone else?
And does anyone else want to choose a new challenge to start tomorrow?
Potato is considered a vegetable- as a matter of fact the FDA counts a serving of french fries as a serving of vegetables. Weird, huh?
edit* also today I had potato, carrots, broccoli, apple, banana, avocado, and cucumber.
Lol ok, so what's that 35?
I just looked back to count my potatoes - I normally eat quite a few sweet potatoes but this week it seems I only had one normal baked potato.
Where is everyone else?!
How can I make walking fun?
You have to find a way to make exercise fun or else you won't do it. If you walk indoors on a treadmill, I recommend moving outdoors into the fresh air... Read more
