Losing weight on birth control?
Has anyone here successfully done it?
I did.
Birth control pills (I've heard really bad things about the depo shot, so I think that's an exception) don't make you gain weight on their own, in general.
There might be some exceptions, but most women, if they are very honest, will say that they gained weight after starting the pill because of changes they made - it might increase your cravings, it might make you less energetic, or it might be that you start it because you are in a new relationship, which itself can lead to weight gain.
But the pill itself isn't doing it.
Sure. I've never gained weight from the pill at all. It doesn't seem to affect my appetite in any way.
I don't even notice that the pill affects my appetite at all.
Right when i first started taking them, it made me kind of sick and i actually lost a little weight. That was a couple years ago...
If you just began taking them and you eat more (or less) its supposed to pretty much even out after like 3 or so months. Don't quote me on that though...
I think it totally depends on the person. Personally, I find it harder to lose quickly on the pill but that they really help with maintaining weight (less hormonal fluctuation probably.) I lost about 12lbs (over about 6 months) while taking the pill and then had been the same weight for over 7 months. I stopped taking the pills to see if I would have more energy and gained 8lbs in a week. The weight has stayed there for 2 months despite no changes in diet and exercise. I just started back taking them to see what would happen.
If you eat right and continue to exercise I am sure you will be fine. Good Luck!
I am not sure about birth control pills, but I do know from personal experience; I gained weight from the time I got on the DEPO shot until I got off. When I got off of it, I dropped 15 lbs. in no time. Also, they told me when I started the shot, that WEIGHT GAIN was a side effect, so it can't be just me.
Also, my mom has taken birth control pills for years. She has always had a hard time losing weight since she began. She finally had to get on a 1200 calorie diet, and exercise to start losing. So I know you can lose on BC pills, but it probably makes it a little more difficult. It also depends on your own personal body makeup.
i went on the pill right before going to college, just to make the transition easier for me. I probably lost 15-20lbs my freshman year so while most people were gaining, i was losing.
I credit most of that to an increase in my daily excersise, i was walking everywhere. I also was picky with the cafeteria food and ended up living on Chik fil a nuggets at lunch (no fries) and a salad at dinner. I ate that pretty much all year long and only ever lost weight and toned up a bit without having to do any extra gym time at all.
too bad now i know it isnt that easy! I long for the days when i am that thin again (and that was only two years ago!)
Birth control, both pills and deppo, tends to make women gain weight for a short time, and then they usually go back to normal. I have found that losing weight on both pills and deppo is not any different than being hormone free. As long as you stick to your healthy weight loss plan, and get a reasonable deficit, you should not have any problems.
Yup, I was on BCP the entire time, and my total loss to date is 70lbs. For me, I think they actually helped, as I take them to regulate my hormones (I have PCOS)...and in turn, I think that helped my weight loss efforts.
On the go andin the know.
