NOT LOSING WEIGHT or INCHES??

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 22yrs old 5'1 124lbs. Looking to lose around 10lbs in a healthy way. Ive been working out 5-6 days/week, 1.5-2 hrs everyday burning about 500-600 calories everyday for a month now. I do 30-40mins of weight training and 60-70mins of cardio. I eat around 800-1000 total calories everday. I try to eat more calories but its hard when I'm full or not hungry. I stick to a strict diet of lean meat, vegetables, fat free dairy and whole wheat carbs. I've started watching my sodium intake and I don't drink anything but water. I don't binge and I work out every week. I also keep a calorie journal and weight out my servings as well. I've been drinking a lot more water lately as well and I haven't seen any results. BUT, I've actually GAINED 1lb.  and haven't lost any inches either. I'm really frustrated and confused...any ideas?

Soooo, you're burning 500-600; you're eating 800-1000...so really your body is running on 300-500 calories, when our bodies need at least 1200 to function.  You're killing your nutrients and putting your body into starvation mode. If you love working out that much, I would concentrate on the exercises and not worry about eating less (a deficit). When we feed our bodies, our bodies burn more.

Eating the lean meats and healthy food is great, but you really aren't eating enough and that can hinder weight loss too. Remember weightloss doesn't = heathy if you're not eating enough.

What she said ^^^^^^

You need to eat more. Lots more. If you are burning 500-600 cals a day, I'd say you need to eat at least 1800, which would net you at 1200-1300 which is on the low side, but should be appropriate for your height.

some people just haven't been taught.

sick of you assuming they're just stupid people.

I dont see how they couldnt have been thought when people rant and rave about "starvation mode" constantly on here.

I'm right there with you. And unlike the others saying "starvation mode", I'm going to say something practical.

Have you ever heard of Paul McKenna? He has some sensible advice. I can speak from personal experience. When you drive your body hard, for a long time, your metabolism slows down.

Don't plan out meals, aim for calories, exercise if you hate it, or any other sabatoging experience. Just wait until you are hungry. On a scale of one to ten, how hungry are you? Try to eat at a 3-4, stop at a 6-7. Enjoy your food slowly. Eat whatever you like. And stop whenever you might think you are full.

What does this do? Your body is not a calculator. It has an internal system that says: hey, I want food now. It doesn't say at ten o'clock, time for 100 calories. Think of how kids eat - that's natural. Over time, your metabolism fixes itself. When you eat according to a schedule, you override your own natural signals. And when you begin to tune into it, the body will understand and start sending out hunger signals more often. You'll be eating more - we're talking in a while, not immediately - and you'll weigh less! Nobody bossing you around except your own body.

Just trust yourself, seriously.

didnt call the op stupid at all - just the post

I have very similar stats (19 years old, 4'11", 1 hour - 2 hours exercise per day, starting weight: 128, current weight: 119) and I lose on an average of between 1500 and 1700 cals. I lost on 1200-1300 too but that was unsustainable.

Just thought you'd like to know it works :)

If *I* felt that way, imagine how they must feel.
