Losing weight makes you look.....

Quote  |  Reply
Well..... This could stir some arguements, but hey ho...

I have quite a chubby face (hamster cheeks.... The sort you just want to pinch 'coz they're cute!'), but personally I believe I look younger than I actually am....

A friend of mine has lost a good 3 stone in weight, and although only a year older than myself now looks a lot more since losing weight.

Do you believe that you look older if you lose weight? or am I just imagining something in my beer haddled brain?

Regards

I think a rounder face has more of a "baby" look to it and can be said to look younger.  So when you lose weight, your face becomes more stretched and leaner...looking older.  I don't mind it, personally.  I like not being carded, and I like not looking like I'm 12 :)  but to each his own!
Maybe that is the case for men but for me I think I look younger when I lose weight. At this weight people think I'm in my LATE 20's when I just turned 21! I think when I lose the weight I'll look my age if not younger.
I don't think this counts for everyone.
Personally, I think I'm looking younger as I'm losing weight, but I think that also has to do with the fact that I'm sleeping better and exercising more and drinking more water, and all that reflects on your skin.  :)

But I do think that when you start to lose too much weight then you start looking haggard.  Not enough stuff between the bones and the skin and you start looking really frail.
No, but what DOES count for everyone, Seraph?  What applies to 2 fat dudes doesn't always apply to you sexy ladies ;)
beanie>> Think you have hit the nail on the head. The lad did lose the weight in a remarkably quick amount of time (around 2 months). In that case this would be another arguement against crash diets.
Depends. I've actually noticed it both ways. Sometimes overweight mothers seem to look older than they are, and I can't really tell until I see before/after pictures and I'm like 'wow, she looks at least 10 yrs younger!'

But then, if you're not obese, just a tad overweight, and you're younger, when you lose weight you end up looking older, i.e. you lost your 'babyfat.'

So maybe it's a 'chubby makes you look younger, obese makes you look older' thing?

But I have noticed it, as I said, both ways.
See, I was VERY obese and lost weight and I look older.  Of course...that's just me.

I don't mind...if I wanna look younger, I'll shave :-P
Hi ya'll, I have lost 60 pounds. Went from 245 to 185 and have 30 more to go. I have been told I look at least 10 years younger now that I lost weight. I am 49. Sometimes I look in the mirror and see myself looking older. I think some wrinkles are showing now that were stretched out because of the fat under the skin!!! I still choose thinner rather than fatter tho!!! Linda
I know the phenomenon you're describing...I've seen some people who looked so haggard after losing a lot of weight, but now that I think on it, those people lost weight very very quickly. Perhaps a rapid weight loss leaves saggy skin, and this is what you are seeing? I think that the key here is to lose gradually, and make sure that you're getting ALL your vitamins and minerals, plenty of antioxidants, and so on. There are a lot of unhealthy diets out there. GAWD. A friend of mine went all low-carb, and all she ate was bacon, vienna sausages with cheese, and more such things. She almost entirely cut out fresh fruits and vegetables because they are "carbs" and she DOES look older to me, now, though she did drop some weight..I bet her cells are starved for antioxidants and all the good things that come with fresh foods. I bet that if you are smart about it, you'll look younger when you lose weight.
A ton of people have told me I look a lot younger now...  Check out my profile pics, I tend to agree with them.

I also think it can be relative to your age.  If you are a late teen or early 20s, it's hard to look younger.  I know I'm only 28, but still, it's easier for me to look younger than someone who is 22.
Yeah but finewine you're a GUY. I was talking about GIRLS. I swear there's a difference.
Plus who wants to look like they're in their early twenties anyway? No one takes you seriously. Everyone thinks I'm 16...I still get carded for EVERYthing.
No that's true Finewine. ;)
I think it could swing either way.  Some lose weight and look older some look younger.  I think it depends on the peron, their body structure and face structure(since the face is what is usually the first thing people notice).  Personally I've noticed that when I wear glasses  people think I look smarter.
I've just turned 20 and plenty of people take me seriously.
I'm 31 and no-one takes me seriously *squeezes honking red noise* HONK HONK!!!
I'm 31 and no-one takes me seriously either. Must be the age! ;D
It's because you guys aren't carrying around a "take me seriously or else" stick to beat folk with. I have one with me at all times :)
Plenty of people take me seriously but they just tell me I look smarter.....hahaha.  ;)
