I am a 50 yr old woman and started 3/28/06. I try to stay around 1600 to 1800 per day. I have gone lower like 1200 - 1400 and then notice a stand still. Someone told me to increase calorie intake and you start to loose again. So on occasion I go a little higher. I have lost 44.5 lbs so far. I am more active now. Not running a marathon or anything but I do move more. I don't think there is any right answer. You have to listen to your body. You could have an intollerance to certain foods like dairy or meats. Things that just trigger your body to stop metabolizing. See how does it respond at the different calorie levels and exercise levels. Lets face it - Its a life change so it doesn't really matter how long as long as it comes off. Just stay positive and keep going.

Feb-May: 1500 calorie diet, almost no exercise (except walking that 1,5 miles to the bus station and back every day), lost 4lbs in that time.
May-now: 1200, but I often end up somewhere between 1100 and 1300 cals.
I've lost 9lbs since may, and I increased my exercise (more toning than cardio) to 3 to 6 times a week.
I should add though that I've never been "big", and i guess the more you are overweight the faster and the more you lose at first, right? I started off with 136lbs at 5'5". Now I'm 123lbs and 4lbs away from my target weight. However they just don't seem to come off, I've seen no big changes on my scale for 4 weeks now >.<

I am a male, eat 2000 calories on non-exercise days. I eat more on exercise days.
I have lost 30 pounds in the last six months, so a 5 pound average. The last few months have slowed down since I have been strength training.

I am under a doctors care for a variety of health related issues and see him regularly.
I am eating between 1100 and 1200 calories.
Weight lost since March 27: 28 lbs.
I recently ended a 6 week plateau by eating over 1400 calories for one week and then returning to 1100-1200.
I am now making sure that 1 to 2 days a week I eat over 1400 calories.
