Losing weight for a wedding?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all - I want to lose weight in general, but I'm using my cousin's upcoming wedding as tangible motivator.

Not the bride - just a bridesmaid.

But the wedding is late June in Mexico... so when I'm not wearing a strapless dress, I will be in a bathing suit!! I must shed the LBs!!

Does anyone have a similar story? A strategy? The past few days I have significantly decreased my overall food intake (sticking with yogurt, fruit, toast, salad... etc) but I absolutely cannot cut out chocolate! I've been trying to eat small bits of it to keep me satisfied so I won't binge, but I know the added sugar must go if I want to look svelte in the sun.

Let me know what's good! Cool

Good luck - you have quite a bit of time so I hope you'll make your goal! For the chocolate thing... I hear some people buy a small bag of chocolate chips/M&Ms, eat one when they crave, then chew gum. It really helps with the portion control, but I guess the risk is eating it all...

there are some sugar-free 60 cal chocolate jello/pudding snacks that might make your chocolate craving go away.  just a thought

best of luck to you!

I am trying to lose weight for my own wedding in August.  13lbs down, 20 more to go.  I eat about 1600 calories a day, I get one serving of "Mufa"s with every meal and try to walk when I have time.   I eat chocolate very frequently not every day, but most days.  I try to stick to dark or semi sweet chocolate.  Sometimes one piece of Dove dark chocolate is all I need for the day, and at some times of the month I need more.  I just adjust my calorie and fat intake in other areas of my diet on the days I need more.  Fortunately the dark chocolate counts as one serving of mufas, so it is totally allowed in my diet as long as I watch the sugar intake.

All things in moderation.

Good luck.

There's actually a group: We're getting married!

I'm sure they accept bridesmaids :)

i'm a bridesmaid too! and also upcoming in june as well.

i'm 5'8'' around 162 pounds, and a college freshman. ugh. haha

i want to get down to 145 for the bridesmaid job for my cousin (: shize she's a size zero.. as well as the other bridesmaids.. so i want to get down to a size six so i don't look too chubby against the other girls :-/

if you would like a partner in your challenge, hit me up! i'd love to help.

my current method for "diet" is under 1900 calories a day, i'm trying to hit 1500 a day... and exercise at least 3 times a week.

it's hard to fit exercise in my schedule, so whenever i can, i will... but it's just hard.

but yes, the 1500 calories is my goal.

and by march 8 (my birthday) i want to lose 12 more pounds!! to get to 150 would be freakin' amazing.

and then it's just five more for the wedding! (:

Hey Garvery125 (Your first name isn't Kristy is it?)  Anyways, I am a bride-to-be for my June wedding and I have been on my prewedding diet since July.  I'm down 20lbs with 15 to 20 more to go.  What I have found very helpful is eating 6 times a day with a variety of foods.  For instance, at 8am I eat a bowl of cereal (just one serving and I have a food scale to be precise), then at 10 I eat an apple or banana, then lunch at noon I have easy mac, healthy choice soup, or ravioli, at 2 I have carrots or pickles, then 4 I have a sweet treat that is low cal (right now I eat a little pouch of Murray's sugar free chocolate bites) they help with chocolate cravings and they use splenda, they're pretty tasty!  Then I have dinner at 6ish and eat however many calories I'm allowed and try to leave room for a small dessert if I"m in the mood.

The best part about this plan is that I never feel really hungry and incorporating fruits and veggies helps me feel healthy.  I hope this helps and remember, weight loss IS POSSIBLE!

Hello! I'm having a wedding in August and I'm trying to lose weight as well. :) These last 17lbs have been horrible (I'm at 157 right now, trying to get to 140, but I'd be happy with anything below 150. I don't cut out chocolate either, I just have it in moderation. As with anything else :) Beer and alcohol definitely is the hardest for me having in moderation.. my fiance loves beer, and it's hard to pass it up when him and his buddies are drinking. :( But you definitely seem on the right track! keep it up!

Good call! We definitely accept bridesmaids in that group ... I am the founder so should know :)

garvey125, Congrats on being a bridesmaid, so much fun! You have a ton of time til then so can make some major changes in your body/weight/outlook by that time. No worries!

Have you used the Tools on this website to calculate how many cals you should be taking in each day to achieve your goals?

The key in starting any weight loss plan is to do it slow and steady. Aim for no more than 1% of your body weight per week (usually about 1-2 lbs for many people).

Good luck and trust me if I could do it, so can you :)

KissHello First of all Good luck honey with losing weight for the wedding, i am also a bridesmaid, for my sisters wedding but i have a little longer to lose the weight, i have untill May 2010, but i have quite a bit to lose, i want to try and lose all my weight by then, but i think with the calorie counting on here and sticking to it we can do it.

So heres to us looking good for the wedding cheers xx

First of all - thanks for all the responses! You all have made my day!

I've never been part of a weight loss forum before and I think it is a really positive thing that we all can get on here and help one another out. Surprisingly, talking to strangers feels more right than discussing it with friends or family...

I need to lose about 30 pounds, but it seems as if I'm going about it a bit differently than most people. I'm trying only to step on the scale once a week (it's hard) and I am not keeping track of my calories. Instead I am focusing more on portion control and eating healthy foods. (I've been really hungry for the past week... haha!)

OK ladies so let's keep up the good work!! Kiss

OH ONE MORE THING- this is a goodie. Has anyone read "French Women Don't Get Fat" ?? It's not a typical diet book, the author combines personal experience with a very sensible approach to changing your lifestyle permanently. It has been the best source of inspiration for me thus far, and I HIGHLY recommend it :)

I am also a bridesmaid trying to slim down by the wedding at the end of June!  I am 24 5'8" and 144.  My goal is to make it down to at least 130 if not 125 ( I have a very small frame and looked healthy at this weight a few years ago).  What I do with the foods that I crave is wait until the end of the day if I have calories left over I definitely let myself have it, if I don't have any left I ask myself if it is really worth it to have that chocolate if it will put me over my goal for the day.

Question for all of the future brides and bridesmaids trying to loose weight:  what are you going to do about ordering your dress?  The bride told me I should order it within the next month but now I am not sure what size I should order.

Hey there! Our situations are pretty similar. I'm in college as well, I'm actually a senior (eeeeek!) and the bride is a size 0, her sister is like a 2/4, the other sister is a 0... so I feel your pain!! I'm so down to be your partner in the challenge! College is an especially hard time to lose weight because your workload outside of classes varies (I am doing my thesis right now so it's basically never-ending for me...) And in addition to that - your friends want to drag you out for beers and junk food all the time! When I got home tonight my roomates had CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES sitting on the counter!!! (I ran upstairs into my room as fast as I could)

What's your situation like?

I would say to order the size you are now. That's what I did. And then at the beginning of June I'm going to put the dress on and *hopefully* have it altered to fit me better. (I'm also a D-cup so I definitely needed a size 8 to fit my ta tas in)

Hi there!

I'm also trying to lose weight for a wedding. My sister is getting married in October and I'm the maid of honour... eek! I'm currently at 230lbs and REALLY want to lose 50lbs before the wedding. So, it's really time for me to get down to business... I started last year at 300lbs, so I've lost 70lbs in a year, but I really need to kick it into gear now.

For your chocolate cravings, have you ever tried the Fibre 1 Oats & Chocolate bar? It's sooo good, and definitely fills my chocolate/sweet cravings. I also keep a box of the individually wrapped Dove dark chocolates around, just in case.

We're going dress shopping next weekend and I'm so nervous. Since I want to drop such a large amount of weight, I'm not sure if I should get the size I am now, or order it a few sizes smaller either. I KNOW I can drop a few sizes at least before the wedding, but I don't really want to jinx myself either, you know? Ugh...

Good luck to you. I'm sure you can do it!

My wedding is NEXT weekend! Eek! I was in the same dilemma. I lost a few pounds before I ordered my dress. Once it was ordered, I lost a little bit more. I went in for my fitting when the dress came in and maintained that weight since. I still have some weight to lose...actually quite a bit but I figured I looked awesome in my dress anyway so who gives a crap if I'm still chubby?

It seems like most of these weddings are in spring and summer. You need to be extra careful because it's the busy time of year. Have a backup plan, like an independent seamstress in case the one at the bridal shop gets backlogged.

Also, Spanx can be your new best friend.
