It's not really a loss, is it?

" I lost weight"

"Really? When did you see it last?"

"Honey, Have you  seen my weight?  I know it's around here someplace."

"I know I had it this morning when it took me five minutes to button my pants."

We call it a "loss" but we sure act like we've gained something when it happens.

We've actually gained some skinny-ness haven't we?

The term "weight loss" makes it sound easy. Like you've misplaced something.

I think when someone says "have you lost weight?" we should reply

"No, actually I worked my butt off"

Sort of to give ourselves the credit we deserve.

'Cause honey, it ain't easy!

Sometimes it really is that easy.

onlystardust:  It may have been intended as a joke, but I loved reading it!  Everytime I join my friends socializing I realize how little they reflect on their choices.  Last night I realized that while I have been getting healthier and losing weight, most of my friends have gained weight and seem to be less aware of how much they eat and how much alcohol they consume during a social function.  At last night's gathering, I found myself drinking wine for the first time in months and the negative consequences of that choice are obvious by how lousy I feel today.  I limited my wine consumption to two glasses so as to stay within my established caloric limitations, but it was definitely two glasses more than my body wanted.  I'm not going to share my observations with them unless asked, but it's sad to witness how their choices impact on their health.  I am so grateful to have gained insight to my personal needs and goals, and I am pleased to feel healthier and to have more vitality.  But it's an individual choice, and I now realize how hard it is to maintain that mindfulness during social functions.

Hi miriambernson,

Glad you enjoyed my little attempt at humor.  About alcohol. Roughly 7 weeks ago I gave it up. Oh my how I loved my beer (mother's milk, bread soda, liquid bread, nectar of the Gods) that first beer in the evening was Heaven. Anyway, I sort of burned out where drinking is concerned and hated the "brain fog" the next morning, and then there's those nasty calories.

I've tried to "lose weight" before but somehow this time it's different. No struggle, no cravings. I never cheat, and I won't do anything in social situations that I don't do when I'm alone. If people can't handle my abstaining from drinking, or whatever junk food they want me to eat (to make them feel better) then that's just too bad.

I won't have my getting skinny derailed or delayed just to fit into some social situation

Laughing <---------do these come in bigger sizes?

ah mindfulness. If I could distill the essence of calorie counting, that would be it - mindful eating. Yesterday I took a handful of almonds from the snack box, and my mom in law saw me take a good look at the handful to count them. She couldn't believe it, thought I was overdoing it. But no, it's just about being aware. In the same way, I bought a savory bun the other day from a shop I usually love. Pre-calorie counting I would have wolfed it down and 'thought' that I liked it. But now I take a nibble, grimace, and ask myself what did I ever see in it that was worth the calories. It's weird, but I eat better and more happily now than before cc'ing. More satisfied when I DO choose to eat, less guilty because I know those calories fit in... just such a good feeling.

I love it :)   A good friend of mine here uses the term Tossed instead of lost.. she says people often find what they lose..  but not so much for what they toss. :)  I have tossed 85lbs  and I sure don't want to find them !!!

I like "Tossed" better too.

Does anybody know if it's a CERTAINTY that I'll get the dreaded saggy skin after I lose 65 lbs?

After "tossing" only 35 pounds, I have the beginnings of the dreaded saggy skin :(   That part's not fun, but getting rid of the LBs is awesome!

Whenever i lose a pound, im like. sh*ite, hot mama, you just gained a pound of sexiness.

I wish I could "give it away" to someone I really didn't like.

 Ha, that's cute :)

I usually say 'got rid of' since I didn't really lose anything. I know exactly where it went. And hopefully it won't find its way back...
