lossing weight unintentionally

Quote  |  Reply

OK so i have lost 2 pounds, on top of the five pounds previous when i was staying at my aunties place, i didn't weigh my self for about a month casue I'm in between moving/college/ being obsessed with the violin. anyway i am pretty sure that i have been eating between 2000-3000ks. i went to my doctor and everything is fine. my doctor is not worried because she checked me over and everything is fine, she just suggests gaining muscle or something like that. so I'm 5ft4  19 and 103, which means over two or three months i have lost 7lbs. which shocks me because i don't workout much, yoga and treadmill every now and again and by that i mean 2-3 times a week. so i wanna get back up to 110lbs. and for all those wondering no i don't suffer from anorexia and i never have, well not that i know of. i say that because i remember the last time i posted here and someone made a comment in that direction. anyway my mum suggest the usual just eat more so I'm gonna start eating 4000k and see what happens. my periods seem to be longer as well just by a day but maybe that's just my cycles changing. I'm trying to eat healthy cause my old habits were to lazy around the house sipping on full fat vanilla milkshakes, so instead i grab a ice cream/fruit salad and go for walks.

I'm really worried cause I'm afraid i will get back to were i was which was 100lbs. i was that weight in January and had to really pull my socks up and get to 110, which took me 5000k no exaggeration and no lie well something around that number with all the cakes and ice cream my mum kept making. which worried me because all the sugar/diabetes/insulin resistant that can result of too much sugar/fat in ones diet. so i wanna be healthy and I'm making a conscious effort- not just down 400grams of the big pack of chocolate + a tub of ice-cream+breakfast (300grams of cereal and milk) and lunch and dinner which are mostly junk. but now I'm much healthier with lots of protein and tons of fat, which i cant seem to cut down on. everything is full fat in my house but I'm trying.   `

i don't wanna be one of those people, who continuous eat a ton of the wrong foods into adulthood because their body can handle the strain and when they hit 30 they end up with hypertension/diabetes/insulin resistance and a weak heart cause of all the damage.

so my question is why am i losing when I'm averaging around 3000k a day, but also 3000k use to be my maintenance number  three and half months ago when i was at a higher weight (110lbs) so why isn't my maintenance number now? when my eating habits haven't change or my workout routine?has anyone experience something similar? and what can i do to stop the weight loss? 5000k is a lot of work when its not junk food.

sorry about the spelling mistakes.....

Well isnt that a stumper.

Hmm...add more oil like a tablespoon to veggies if you eat them. Throw avocados or maybe nuts on salads or anything that needs a good crunch like oatmeal, baked things, whatever.

Eat a scoop of the high calorie ice cream at night. 1/2 cup (one scoop) can sometimes be almost 400 calories.

Dip apples, bananas, or whatever fruit you like into whole fat yogurt. Or even 2%, but get away from low fat or fat free.

If you eat meat make sure you get regular portions, but don't be too careful on excatly 4 oz. thing.

Whole grain pasta or anyother grain usually has higher calories. Eat some of that with tomato sauces, alfredo, or olive oil and such.

You probably just are the rare ones with high metabolisms. I mean if you were checked by your doc., and you are telling the truth about your usual calories (which i believe you are.) you are fine. Look on the Weight Gain forum for lots of yummy ideas. You can eat a lot, but still healthy!

Hi Skunk,
I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone becaue I kind of felt out of place when I first joined here when it seemed like anyone trying to gain weight had the main barrier being just "normal eating" of 2-3000 calories, and was afraid of eating instead of afraid of not getting enough or losing as I was.

I have  similar predicament too, but I'm determined to make it happen.  We know we need a positive energy balance to gain, so just step it up adn find ways to make it happen!

Meanwhile it is of course important to find out why our body's are here...is ist just a long time of "not quite enough" [many athletes do in fact need 5K just to maintain] or could something else be wrong?
I know I have to pursue food intolerances and digestive issues since my symptoms there indicate that might be an area of malapsorption...

As far as how to add, my magic is to change foods--so something savory, something sweet something creamy + a drink rather than getting sick of trying to eat massive amounts of one thing.  Munchies are a great help too--they may seem like a "low cal" item, but I can much easier eat 1000s cals of chex mix and still be hungry for dinner than if I snack on filling food like granola or peanut butter under the guise that it's "high calorie."  I just get full and forget it's time to eat again.

I hope this helps! Keep me updated on your quest-I'm with ya! :)

edit:

I just noticed what you said about not wanting to just eat massive amounts of junk food, and didn't want you to think that was what I was advising!

My career is actually in nutrition and I would never recommend anyone with any goals take on an unhealthy lifestyle-

BUT once you've met your basic needs, the only thing remaining is the energy balance.  Extra nutrition doens't do your body any good...so people with a high calorie budget have more room for "play food" when calorie is the only point.

But as far as your healthy base:
-see how much you can cook in olive oil-I even have a brush I can use to spread it on my potatoes, meats, roast my  nuts, etc.
-avocado! great on sandwhiches, nachos, enchiladas, crackers--and plain! :)
-nut butters. I'm not a big fan, but when desperate i hit up the jar with a box of crackers...
-cereal: another thing I can use to pack in calories.  Fully fortified and often whole grain, just have a few heaping bowl of honey bunches of oats for a sweet tasting snack that gives you lots more nutritional value than a package of skittles!
-your blender: throw in bananas, whole milks [chocolate = divine!] and ice cream and you've got a healthy dessert!

hi thanks for the advice....i try adding more oils and nuts into my eating routine and see what happens. there like 1000ks in 2 packs of cashew nuts, so i will try it.

thanks
