Lost control when eating a glazed donut.....help!

So this weekend me and family went to see a concert, and we brought a bunch of yummy food for breakfast. (Doughnuts, croisants, cupcakes my cousins mom made, left over sub) but I stuck to Cheerios XD. Well, we had lots of left-overs and i've been wanting something ever since we got back. This morning I decided to just take one bite out of a glazed donut from the Publix bakery. Well, I have an ED, so these kinds of foods are a BIG no no! I was so taken over by the taste and texture, I ate the whole thing (one donut)! I'm supposed to be gaining, but I still can't believe I just lost control like that! Why did I and how can I stop it from happening again? Thank you!!!!!

Reason: Support against eating, in a must gain situation, is not what this site is about.

You ate one doughnut?.... And you enjoyed it.  (Hint... that's the only reason doughnuts exist, because they're fun to eat.  Not because they are a nutritional powerhouse)

How does that equate to a loss of control?    If you'd eaten a dozen doughnuts, maybe you'd be right to be worried.  But one doughnut?  Totally normal behaviour.  Keep a sense of perspective.

Hey dont fret afterall its just one doughnut, not the end of the world!! just add it to ur calorie count and then reduce calories somewhere else or else just indulge urself to having one!! its absolutely fine to do so........i just had a chocolate chip cookie i couldnt resist but added it to the calorie count so for dinner i will just reduce my intake of calories and hopefully that should sort things or just work out a li'l bit more today!! Smile chill!!

If your supposed to gaining then what's the issue with eating a doughnut?

I think that having a donut or anything like that once in awhile is good for you! Especially if you are struggling with an ED, you should be proud of your self for having 1 donut and really feeling what it is like to just be ok with having a treat.

Maybe try to flip it emotionally to see the positives.

1) you got to eat a donut- yum!

2) you stopped at 1- very normal food habbit!

3)it could help your gain-yeah!

4)you didn't have to throw out food!

5)you were in total control by eating 1 donut and enjoying it's texture and taste- many people cant even enjoy their food-great!

Dont freak out. Eating clean is important for the majority of your food- but having conventional and "bad" food is just part of a well-balanced, happy and social life.

Did you at least enjoy the donut? I think that is all that really matters to be honest.

Sweetie, you should be proud! Having had an ED, I probably wouldnt have been able to just stop at one! The guilt and deprivation would have kept me going. I'll be honest. Ha Ha. You did good. One donut will definitely not hurt you. :)

You didn't lose control you just ate something yummy which you wanted! no one without an ed would take just one bite and put it back! you should be proud of yourself for not listening to the ed and denying yourself something that you like....why shouldn't you have had a donut? everyone else already got to eat fun stuff while you had boring cheerios (:

Well, Im supposed to be losing and I ate one recently. Didn't feel bad at all though. One donut is....one donut. Not enough to make all my efforts in vain. Maybe not that great for me, but a nice treat. I did not feel any guilt, in fact I didn't even remember it till I saw this thread. You are doing just fine. You will hopefully get used to treating yourself more often.

It sounded like a good donut btw :)

you didnt lose control, that rational part of your brain that wants to be normal and healthy said stuff this i want to get better and not to restrict. you should feel very proud . i would of done the same thing and i have an ed to me that shows strength and determination . doint let the ed trick you into thinking it was a bad move. these are the little steps you need to be taking in order to recovery yes its hard but you can do it dont feel bad pat yourself on the back . what would you say to me if id had a doughnut?

Are you tryong to recover? If so, why are you eating a low cal "safe" food while the rest of yourf fam is eating something else? I'm sorry, but this seems like active e/d behavior. And allowing yourself foods that ED doesn't want is vital to recovery... Plus you said you're gaining. If so, high cal foods are your friend and you need to have treats once in awhile :)

Agreed. Saying a doughnut is "a big NO!" because you have an ED makes no sense. You have an ED, I presume you are supposed to be gaining, therefore eating a doughnut is fine. A doughnut would also be fine if you weren't gaining. Especially if you have an ED, I don't think you should be so happy about sticking to cheerios while your family has treats.

You're just letting your ED win, and the one time it doesn't win (you eat a doughnut) you want help for how to stop it? If you're not in recovery, please don't post here.

Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.

At 5' 4" and 110 lbs, your BMI is 18.9, which is already at the very low end of the healthy range.

Your July post said that you're trying to survive on 700 calories per day, so I conclude that the eating disorder you refer to is anorexia.

You are anguishing over "losing control" by eating a single doughnut and asking this group to help you avoid doing it again?

Sounds to me like you're asking for help in maintaining your ED.

I'm not 110 ,way less :(...but i'm just going to stop coming on this site. I'm not getting the support i'd hoped for.

What do you want us to say? Don't eat the donut? Not going to happen. Ever.

Plus, donuts are yummy!

Listen, there is support here and tons of it. But only for people who WANT to recover. You are asking us to support your eating disorder. Many people on this site are recovered from eating disorders(myself included), and we know exactly how all this feels. Plus, it is VERY triggering to see someone eating a 700 cal diet and talking about how they shouldn't have eaten a donut. We are more than willing to support you in your RECOVERY, not your ED.

I'm not getting the support i'd hoped for.

When you see a man about to step on a railway line, 'support' might mean grabbing him by the arm roughly and pulling him out of harms way.  'Support' would not be standing idly by and watching him kill himself.
