Hi everyone,
Today I am celebrating reaching my goal! I started last July around 220 lbs and today my ten day average weight hit 190. CC says I could stand to lose a little more, but I'll be happy to stay at this weight indefinitely.
This is actually phase II of my weight loss. About 5 years ago I lost 50 lbs, from 250 to 200. Then the weight slowly but surely started creeping back up. When I saw that I was close to gaining back half of what I lost, I knew I needed to buckle down and reverse the trend. Luckily, I stumbled accross this place just about that time. By counting calories I finally got a handle on portion sizes. I no longer count daily, but I now have a good idea of how much I should be eating on a daily basis. If my weight trend goes up too much, I know I can go back to counting for a while to get back on track.
So thanks to everyone in this community. I have not posted much here, but I enjoy reading all the posts. There is a lot of common sense, knowledge, and kindness expressed.
Here's a summary of how I reached my goal:
- Get a handle on snacking and portion sizes by logging every calorie, at least for a while
- Eat healthy-- lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains
- Moderate exercise most days each week (5bx and running)
- Weigh myself daily, but focus on the trend line and not get too bothered by any individual day
- Read CC forums for inspiration and advice
- Use Hacker's Diet for inspiration and weight plotting (I actually like the HD plotting style better than the CC one)
Now, onto maintenance!

Betzc: The role model bit is a huge motivator. I want to show my kids that there is a healthy middle way between eating crappy food and being obese, or driving yourself crazy running from one fad diet to the next.

congrats now comes life mantenance which is just as hard but now you at a manageable weight which I dream of achieving one day.Good tips too, I will keep them in mind.
