I lost an inch!

Quote  |  Reply

In height?  I went to the doctor's on Tuesday for some issues I've been having.  Since it was my first visit, they went to town checking my BP, height, weight, etc. etc.

Now, the first time I was measured for my full height at 18, I would SWEAR to you they told me I was 5'8".  Excellent for me!  I was a tall-ish girl!  A few years later, I was remeasured and I was 5'7".  Well, that was ok because the first measurement was probably taken at a free health clinic and they let me keep my shoes on.  On Tuesday, the RN cheerfully exclaimed that if I stretched, that I would top out at 5'6"!!

Boo!  Now I'm even MORE overweight than I first thought.  At 5'7" I was recommended to try to hit 145...now at 5'6" its more like 135...

My goalposts have been shifted and it's tough.  I weight 188 right now and 145 looked like it was forever away.  Now that it's 135...it seems TOO far.  Too much.

This has totally killed my motivation...

Keep in mind you change height as well as weight throughout the day. I'm not kidding! You're tallest right after you get up in the morning, because your spine decompresses overnight. As you stay upright during the day, you shrink a little. You shrink more the taller you are, so somebody like me could be 5'11 1/2 in the morning - which I *think* I am - and 5'10 in the evening.

And please ignore the BMI numbers. They suck. Pay attention to how you feel, and how you feel about how you look. Seriously, the BMI chart thinks I need to weigh 165 pounds, and I'd be a stick insect at that weight! Everyone's a little different. Besides, by the time you get to 145, 135 will be hardly any distance away. You *can* do it. Seriously. I weighed 310 pounds at my heaviest weight. This morning, my weigh-in was at 257! I've lost more than 50 pounds. It's not only possible, once you get into the habit of eating healthy and keeping active, it's actually *easy!*

Don't be disappointed .......remember you are not the only one trying to loose we all are with you in same ship.....Wink

Don't let these numbers bother you, Once You will start loosing weight you will start feeling good about your body specially when you will see clothes getting loose, people complimenting you etc etc.

Good Luck!!

Everyone loses height as they get older... but if it's happening faster than it 'should' (about an inch a decade is normal) then you need to be checked for osteoporosis to make sure that your bones aren't suffering...

Btw I'm 5'6" and calorie counter says 150lbs would give me a perfectly normal bmi... so I don't know why you think you absolutely 'have to' be 15 pounds lighter than that.

You are losing height way to fast you should have you doc check you for osteoporosis I know you very young but If you didn't get enough calcium when you were a teen you could have an early on set of it.   Try measuring your self in the morning right aftyer you wake that will be your true height because during the day gravity pulls people closer to earth and then when you sleep you body is flat and can go back to its normal height. Its true we all shrink during the day.  Make  sure you take calcium vit and plenty of weght bearing ex so your bones know what they're sapposed to do.  Drink milk you body needs it. Laughing  Also keep in mind once osteoporosis has began damaging your bones the damage can not be reversed.

Did you pay attention to your posture? When having your height measured you should be sure your heals, butt, and back are all against the wall (or whatever they are using) and your spine should be as straight as possible facing straight forward. It's very easy to get different measurements if the time is not taken to be sure you are standing correctly. I'd venture to guess you're 5'7 and the 5'8 and 5'6 measurements were off.
