Dear Fellow Seekers of Better Health
I read with great joy and admiration the posting this morning by Jay_ breaze. Please accept my congratulations on a job well done. I sincerely you will keep up the good work and wish you still more success.
I am writing only for the purpose of letting my fellow members know that all things may be accomplished with some effort. On December 19, 2008 I had 3 stints implanted and was told my doctor I had two choices either change my life style or die. I took the harder choice to live. I have been over weight most of my life. I was the chubby kid that always got picked to last. The kids with the 40 inch waist who found something more important to do on Prom night.
Anyway, by diet and exercise I have gone from 274 on December 19, 2008 to 212 this morning. I have a ways yet to go. I honestly cannot remember the last time I weighed 212 lbs. It has to be over 30 years ago. I have taken 8 inches off my middle and like jay I have been acquiring a new wardrobe. No more 4 and 3X shirts. I am now wear an extra large and feel smug about not paying the extra two bucks for the plus sizes.
This past Staturday, June 6, D-Day, I walked in the Montana Governor's cup rece in the 10K division. I covered the 6.2 miles in the rain and the snow, yes int Montana it snows in June, in 1 hour 46 minutes. I was last in my age group (men 60-69) but there were younger people in the other age classes that finished behind me.
I walk seven days a week and I try make at least 10,000 steps every day. This is my special time, I carry my Walkman and enjoy the news, the deer, rabbits and birds I see every day and the time to think. Make it a habit and it works.
You are doing great. I had also had a stent placed in my artery......when I was 46! Needless to say I only took the healthy life style for about 6 months.
I am now 58 (on 6/18) I finally quit smoking in January. I lost my job in March and decided then that I better get healthy or I'll be heading for the Solent Green Factory ![]()
I've lost 21 lbs as of today and like you I walk, walk, walk. I'm hoping to make 140 by the end of the month. I live in the Pocono Mts. in PA. No snow but it was 29 in the morning last Thursday. Still have my flannel sheets on the bed.
So stay healthy and keep walking.
Solent Green are PEOPLE! Ha, loved the reference. Congrats on your lifestyle change Bruce. 62 pounds is an amazing accomplishment and you should be very proud of yourself!
YAY another walker seeing wonderful results!
Hopefully I can say I lost 60 pounds one day (I can see it !) Congrats! Good luck! And keep on motivating!
Congratulations! I love your attitude about working out and exercising. So many people view it as a chore, something they *have* to do in order to lose weight. That negativity will always weight them down (metaphorically and literally), but you see exercise as something you're doing for yourself, where you treat your body to what it needs and you are very positive about it, like I wish more people would be. I share your vision, and hopefully, as time goes, I will also share the same success! I'm a little over 30 pounds down since the end of February and you're really an inspiration to keep going!
Again, congratulations!
