OK, so I lost 50 pounds the year before last. Great, right? Well, I've recently regained 5 pounds- and I feel terrible! Bloated, flabby, porky! I am still 20 lbs from my goal weight of 145- and I WILL get there, eventually- am restarting my diet so I can get there sometime in Jan, losing up to 2 lbs per week.
I know that I'm still 50 lbs lighter than before- so I should feel great, right? How come I don't? I didn't feel this fat when I WAS that fat!!!
Any insight or encouragement would really help right now.
'Feeling fat' is sometimes shorthand for feeling dissatisfied or unhappy about some aspect of life. If you're disappointed in yourself for regaining a few lbs that could be causing you to see the glass half-empty rather than half-full. If the reason you've regained a little is that your diet is not quite as healthy as it could be (or used to be) then that can also make you feel a little down in the mouth. A poor diet and inactivity can act as a depressant.
Feeling great has very little to do with what number appears on the scales. So if you want to lose some more weight - go for it. But try to find other ways to give life a lift at the same time. Then you'll have the best of all worlds.
I'd bet any money that even the skinniest little chicka out there has 'fat' days, too!!! Congrats on the 50lbs you lost....so today, do something to make yourself feel good, pamper yourself a bit.
Or go for a run, workout. Drink a lot of water, and counter act the 'fat' feeling!

Grin- Does not fitting into the jeans I'd been wearing count as seeing the glass half-empty?
I do agree that poor diet and lack of exercise are depressants- and it has been a while since I really broke a sweat. Time to get off this exercise plateau!
oh my gosh you have done SO WELL loosing 50 pounds is something to be proud of! =)
i wish i could say ive lost 50 pounds! eventually ill be able to say that!
think thin feel thin be thin!!
all i have to say is HAVE SOME CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF!
You have lost 50 pounds, and I am sure that you look fabulous!!!!!!
Remember confidence is all about how you feel, even the most unfortunately looking people can appear beautiful if they believe they are beautiful.
If you feel thin and beautiful inside, it will show on the outside!!
So put a smile on, raise your head high. Put on your favourite 'new' outfit and go congratulate yourself!!
Keep it up! You are a success story!![]()
My confidence has gone up after my weight loss, but I still need to build my abs, chest, and arms before I feel alot better with myself so I can go to the beach and not worry since I know I will look good with my shirt off eventually.
Buying new clothes made me feel real good as well, now I know my appearance is more clean cut and less sloppy.
hang in there, it takes time and patience but it is worth it.
I've been feeling a similar way recently. I lost 40 pounds but then gained around 5-10 back. At the end of my rapid loss period, I was starting to see myself as skinnier and it scared me a bit I think. Now I've finally adjusted to seeing myself this way and this has become my "new fat". It's a blessing and a curse because on the one hand, I've done a great deal already and shouldn't be hating on my body. But seeing myself this way is giving me the motivation to get back on the wagon and lose those last 20 pounds. I think I just needed a month or two to adjust to my new body image.
