lost 30 lbs but..

Quote  |  Reply
Nothing has changed. The scale says I have lost roughly about 30lbs but I am still as big as ever. I am in a weight training class and I feel like some areas (my arms and legs) are toning up a bit, but where the weight is centered (around my belly button area) it doesn't seem to budge. The tire just stares me in the face and laughs when I look into the mirror. Will it eventually start to go away as well, or what can I do to get rid of it?

Have you measured yourself?  Maybe you're changing more then you think!  I've lost 35lbs and I'm only just now starting to notice a tiny difference on myself, but everyone else comes up to me and says "omg you look so great"!  It's hard to see the change on ourselves since we see ourselves every day.

Also, try looking at old and new pictures.  I bet you'll be surprised at the difference.

Keep it up and don't get discouraged.  The rest of it will come off in time.  You're doing great!!  Congrats on the 30lbs lost!

it might be excess skin?  but, wow! 30 lbs lost is a hugh success, congrats and good luck.

What was your starting weight?  I've heard it takes about a 10% loss to notice a difference.  I started at 238 and I didn't really notice a difference until about 35 pounds loss.  You'll notice sooner or later, try not to let it get you done.  One day you will wake up & BAM! you'll feel thinner Laughing  Plus, keep in mind you are your own worst critic!

I am just going to say what everyone else has said :) I have lost 30lbs as well and yes I fit into smaller clothes (not only like a size smaller) I still don't fell like I have changed much at all. But everyone else notices and then I did measurements and I lost inches but I just don't think we will ever notice oursleves. I think its because we get so used to seeing ourselves big and feel like it we can never be anything better.
I hope that it's just that. I saw a friend I haven't seen in a while and they didn't say anything. Anyway, to answer alle's question I started out around 193 and am around 164 now. I don't thin it is excess skin helpless, It's taken me a year to lose that 30 lbs and it wasn't a rapid weight loss.

Thanks for the replies.

When I first started losing weight, the first thing I noticed was that I could breathe easier.  Then one day I saw a TV show on the health channel about being overweight.  The doctor had done a study of people with weight problems and people who looked thin.  He had used an MRI to detail the fat throughout their bodies.  The amazing thing was that even the people who looked thin but did not eat particularly healthy had fat built up around their internal organs to such an extent that they were still unhealthy.  He had his subjects loose weight by eating a healthy diet and then rescanned them and the difference was amazing and they all commented that they could breathe much better and had an easier time exercising.  You probably lost your internal fat and if you keep exercising and eating right the outer should follow.

Many people do not bring up weight with people as they do not want to offend them, mabye your friend is one of these people.  My hair dresser did not mention my weight loss until a couple of days ago.  She said she thought I had been losing weight but it was now very noticable, felt great.  So sometimes people notice but don't say anything.

Congradulations and good luck.Smile

I have lost a total of 35 lbs.  The first 25lbs nobody noticed.  It was all in my bust.  I felt better, I could tell my cardiovascular fitness increased, but it was depressing, because after 25lbs, I would like people to notice and to at least go down a pant size, but that didn't happen, because the clothes I was wearing were so tight when I started.  The next 10 lbs everyone noticed!  I went down a pant size.  I have hit a plateau as far a weight is concerned, but have gone down another pantsize.

Look at it as percentages.  I weigh 215 lbs.  For 25lbs that is just over 11% of my weight.  The ten pounds from 190 is just over 8% of my body weight.  The less you weigh, the more people will notice your pound for pound weight loss.

Everybody is different, but for many people, belly fat is the last for them to lose.  Our bodies will burn fat where it wants.  keep it up and the belly fat will shrink.

Congratulations and keep up the good work.
