I figured I would put this into a thread as I have explained this to quite a few people and the typing gets repetative. I will explain my story and how I did it.. this is what is working for me....

Summary: I have lost 107 lbs since Jan 1, 2007

Jan 1, 07 weighed : 363 lbs

July 27 (today) - 256 lbs ( loss of 107 lbs)

And it started like this: I went to the doctor Nov 27, 06 said I weighed 363 lbs..  NO WAY.. NOT ME..........................

I watched a video on New Years eve of my family  on Christmas Day. That was not me.... I Truly thought that in my brain.... that was the night my life would change! I decided then... Lets do it. Tomorrow starts a NEW YEAR!  and I did. 

Ever wonder how many calories you should eat in one day? Look up your BMR (Basal Metobolic Rate) = the # of calories your body burns in a 24 hour period with your body at full rest!  . It all depends on your current weight, height & age.

 Mine now is about 2000 cal. Thats means my body burns 2000 cal a day even if I NEVER got out of bed.... So.. If I eat only 2000 cal a day....  EVERYTHING I do all I am doing is burning calories! Everything from waking up, to driving, to dressing, to grocery shopping, to working, to chasing kids, to showering.... burning extra fat! Every 3500 calories you burn... you burn a pound of stored fat. So if you eat nothing but your BMR, then of course your burning more calories that you eat, because what you eat, ( your BMR) your body burns NATURALLY to live! If you eat 2000 cal (MINUS) what your body burns automatically (2000) then you have ZERO calories left. Everything you do your burning calories, even digesting food your burning calories.... so of course you will have a Negative Calories Number. This # is called your calorie deficit. I can help you figure out your calorie deficit as well. I know this is long, but I have been helping everyone that emails me, and its easier to refer them to this, and then everyone who wants there own BMR or Calorie Deficit to email me with your #'s and I will respond back . I eat 6-7 times a day...

6:30 - 7:00 AM / 9:30-10:00 / NOON / 2:00- 2:30 / 4:45- 5:00 ( before I leave work - cause by the time I go to the gym, I dontget home till 8 Pm, and I dont want to eat that late) and a snack at 7:30 - 8:00 ....

Snacks never go above 250 calories    

Remember this.. If it comes in a box or a bag DON't EAT IT... If God didnt give it to us naturally, then dont eat it. There are slim exceptions mainly being yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, I do eat All Brab / Bran Buds for my fiber..

SHOP THE OUTSIDE PERIMITER OF THE GROCERY STORE. THAT IS THE FRESH / KEEP COLD ISLES.

Hello all, I am just starting out and this is such a great site.  I want to loose about 70 lbs.  I am using a shake program for about 40 days, two shakes and one healthy 600 cal meal.  Then I am going to follow the 6 meals a day.  Lots of fresh fruits vegs and lean protein and water.  I am drinking half my body weight in oz of water, this helps flush the system.  I have lost 4.5 lbs since Sunday.   Hope you don't mind me chiming in, I just think it is nict to have people to talk to.

Hi I also just started this but what kind of shake program are you doing? i tried the special k diet so far i lost 10 lbs since 6/6/07.

thafley, I started the special k plan on 6/6/07 usually all i have for breakfast is coffe w/creamer. around 10:15 a.m. which is my first break at work i have 1 cup of special k cereal w/2/3 cup lowfat milk. I have cereal w/milk for lunch as well then around 2:30 p.m. 2nd break i have special k bar and for dinner i try and have chicken w/ steamed vegetable or canned also snack on fruit. hope this helps

ill reach my weight goal if i lose 110 lbs

and ive only lost 35 lbs in 4 months!

and im stuck on the same weight since a month now

I guess I can't name the product here, I can email it to anyone who would like.   It doesn't give me the shakey feeling.  My sister in law was stalled and tried it.  She has high cholesterol and has been working really hard at loosing weight.  It is a cleansing program.  They actually have these days where you only do the cleanse.  Well I tried that yesterday and almost died, not from hunger, but from the taste of that stuff...  It gave me headache and made me feel terrible.  So I'm not doing that anymore.  Just shake in morning, they have little snacks you eat to keep your blood sugar level, sensable lunch 400-600 calories and more snacks, then shake at dinner.  Lots of water and a good exercise plan.  I don't feel hungry and have a lot of energy, which I didn't have before.  I will only do it for 40 days.  I don't believe in a quick fix for life, I just needed a jump start, nothing was motivating me, but 4.5lbs in 4 days is doing the trick.  I believe the best way is moderation, 6 healthy meals, lots of water, exercise and a good support network...

I just wanted to chime in and say that I have lost my 88 lbs over the past year simply by counting calories.  I've eaten nothing special other than lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains and low fat meats.  I too lost 10 lbs immediately, a total of 20 the first month.  So really you don't need to drink a shake or eat cereal for 2 meals a day to lose.  It's all up to you, whatever YOU want to eat, just log it here and keep the calories right and you'll lose.  Exercising helps it go faster too, but keeping the calorie count in line with what the tools here suggest is the most important part.

I understand exactly what you are saying, but for me I would eat good for a couple of weeks, walk and drink my water.  I would loose a whole 2 pounds.  My depression about weight loss would set in and I would be back to my old habits.  We each have different a metabolism, what might work for one doesn't work for another.  By drinking these shakes I am not cutting out any nutrients or vitamins.  I have ran this by my dr. and we feel for my overall health it is important to get me excited about my weight loss.   Like I said after the 40 days I will begin a regiment of calorie counting 6 meals, water, exercise etc...  I hope by then I feel excited and healthy enough to keep it going.
Im going to up my calories to 1800, this makes sense to me.
Everyone needs there motivation.. mine.. I have 2 beautiful childreen ( see pics) to live for.. They deserve a mom whenthey get older, I would be lost without mine!  Counting calories works great, I feel its the only real "natural" way to do it and be adequate. I work out at the gym daily..... I bust my butt at the gym , I am no slacker. However I know people cant do that. I have a 2 year old.... Thank god for a hubby and a mother-in-law pickinghimup from daycare daILY.... twindaze.. Lori, I've eaten 1800 for a long time now.  I started at 1500 for about the first 50 lbs and then upped it based on advice here.  It has made the plan do-able for the long term, which in my case was very important with what I had to lose.  Some weeks it seems like so much food but I still lose 1 or 2 lbs, so it works!

I KWYM Loosing, my kids are a big motivation for me.  I want to be alive and healthy and able to enjoy my grandkids someday.  I can't really get to the gym daily, I have to make the workouts I do count.  We all went out and walked this morning for almost an hour.  It's good for the kids too.  Tommorrow I"m going to aerobics at the gym and then will do another 15 minutes on the elliptical.  But my dh travels for work and my kids are in activities so some days I just can't make it happen.  I have 4 kids btw aged 11, 9, 9 and 3.  All boys.
WAY TO GO!!!!  THE PICS ARE AWESOME.  I too just lost a lot of weight, 152 pounds!!!  The feeling is incredible. I still use the old saying, NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD, AS BEING THIN FEELS!!!  Gets me through the rough days!!!  KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!
