I figured I would put this into a thread as I have explained this to quite a few people and the typing gets repetative. I will explain my story and how I did it.. this is what is working for me....
Summary: I have lost 107 lbs since Jan 1, 2007
Jan 1, 07 weighed : 363 lbs
July 27 (today) - 256 lbs ( loss of 107 lbs)
And it started like this: I went to the doctor Nov 27, 06 said I weighed 363 lbs.. NO WAY.. NOT ME..........................
I watched a video on New Years eve of my family on Christmas Day. That was not me.... I Truly thought that in my brain.... that was the night my life would change! I decided then... Lets do it. Tomorrow starts a NEW YEAR! and I did.
Ever wonder how many calories you should eat in one day? Look up your BMR (Basal Metobolic Rate) = the # of calories your body burns in a 24 hour period with your body at full rest! . It all depends on your current weight, height & age.
Mine now is about 2000 cal. Thats means my body burns 2000 cal a day even if I NEVER got out of bed.... So.. If I eat only 2000 cal a day.... EVERYTHING I do all I am doing is burning calories! Everything from waking up, to driving, to dressing, to grocery shopping, to working, to chasing kids, to showering.... burning extra fat! Every 3500 calories you burn... you burn a pound of stored fat. So if you eat nothing but your BMR, then of course your burning more calories that you eat, because what you eat, ( your BMR) your body burns NATURALLY to live! If you eat 2000 cal (MINUS) what your body burns automatically (2000) then you have ZERO calories left. Everything you do your burning calories, even digesting food your burning calories.... so of course you will have a Negative Calories Number. This # is called your calorie deficit. I can help you figure out your calorie deficit as well. I know this is long, but I have been helping everyone that emails me, and its easier to refer them to this, and then everyone who wants there own BMR or Calorie Deficit to email me with your #'s and I will respond back . I hope this is helpful.. Questions PLEASE ASK!!!!

I eat 6-7 times a day...
6:30 - 7:00 AM / 9:30-10:00 / NOON / 2:00- 2:30 / 4:45- 5:00 ( before I leave work - cause by the time I go to the gym, I dontget home till 8 Pm, and I dont want to eat that late) and a snack at 7:30 - 8:00 ....
Snacks never go above 250 calories
Remember this.. If it comes in a box or a bag DON't EAT IT... If God didnt give it to us naturally, then dont eat it. There are slim exceptions mainly being yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, I do eat All Brab / Bran Buds for my fiber..
SHOP THE OUTSIDE PERIMITER OF THE GROCERY STORE. THAT IS THE FRESH / KEEP COLD ISLES.

Dolphin chic.. I like that saying, I may have to use it. I started on here with the weight loass challend last Friday.. Today is Friday, and I went from275 - tyoday Im 266 :-) I amgoing to upload apic of my scale weight every week wether Ilike the results or not ( like my 3 week plateau) So NO ONE on here can say I havent lost what Ive lost. I understand that I may have a HUGE advantage here by having a gym membership ( which I won on that radio show for losingthe most weight) BUT I still controlled everythingtha went into my mouth, I controlled the Healthy food, I refused the junk food!! I DID IT!! I went to the gym EVERY DAY!! I may not have monetarily paid for the membership, BUT I AM the one that utilizes it.
I know I am truly lucky ( even though the hubby is getting a little worn out) that I have people to help with my kids... I thank GOD for that! Ladies it has been a pleasure meeting you girls... Keep up the good work.. and dolphin.. you lost 152 WAY TO GO!!! Did you count calories too?

I dont cleanse, so I am not sure what you are in reference to... you need to figure out your BMR.... Please email me your CURRENT height, weight & age.. and yoru goal weight and the time frame you want to get to that weight! I will help ya!
Getting my posts mixed up...something about cleansing the body from the bad stuff...hard thing to go through but very good for the body. I dont really understand how you do it just yet but someone was talking about it and that was how they started their new life.
I see.. I believe that drinking half of your body weight in onces of water.. that was what my nutritionist explained to me to basically detox from tea, pop, & basic CRAP for my body. Thats my cleansing... and FRUIT VEGGIES, & WATER!

Read the whole manual (it's not very long dont worry) and also read my email about it.
Cleanses get rid of old garbage that is sitting in your intestine. They encourage the body to let go of toxins that are being held in body fat including pesticides from food, and regular body toxins.
For me, I didn't do it for weight loss - I didnt lose that much from it anyway, I did it to help me break my compulsion to overeat.
The things I gained from cleansing were
1) my stomach shrank to a normal size so I was full quicker
2) I broke a major sweet tooth and didn?t crave junk all the time
3) Becuase I had cleaned out my body, I was a lot more careful about what I would put back into my body.
4) My taste buds were refreshed - made pure again - I could taste the sweetness of a carrot, the tartness of an apple, and even things like fresh spinach tasted buttery and sweet. when I did have something processed after that point, it tasted weird. So it helped me incorporate raw, natural things into my diet.

Michelle.... Good going.. I wasnt aware of this being a cleansing diet... I see where you are going with this.... I was told to eat certain foods for 10 days to incorporate color in my diet along with ridding my body of toxins, junk, and cleaning the intestines out.. FIBER FIBER FIBER.. I have things that take out all of the build up in your intestimes, and allow your nutrients to enter your body. I am in the HEALTHY foods... RAW foods, UN PROCESSED! Its hard to explain this to some people who just want to lose weight not be healthy.

Now, I am doing something that sounds very similar to you - I'm trying to eat as much raw fruit and veg as possible, and I make that the main course of the meal - I will have regular stuff too though I just make sure I don't go over 1700 cals a day and I exercise.

I went to that website and put in my information as:
16 year old female, height 5'5", weight 132.5 and my ideal weight is approx. 120 lbs.
My daily calorie deficit is 729 (in a time span on two months) and my BMR is around 1,400 calories (without adding exercise).
Does this mean that I burn 1,400 calories automatically everyday and in order to reach my goal weight in two months I must burn 729 calories per day?

EDIT: Also... I have been going on my elliptical machine each day for one hour and burn 1,000 calories (I also do 40 min of Pilates). But... if my daily calorie deficit is 729 and I'm burning 271 more calories than I need to, why do you think I haven't lost a single pound? :(

If you exercise regualrly ( daily like I do) maybe you need to switch up your regimen? This is wht people hit plateaus, your bosy adjusts to what yoru doing.. you need to kick it out of wack? Fill me in on what your routine is....

Can you make some suggestions for increasing the intensity of workouts on the treadmill or eliptacle (sp?) because I have been worried I'm going to hurt my knees.
I usually stick to the treadmill and work out on the random profile which gives you different stuff like hills, etc... If I do that for about an hour, I burn 500 cals. I never can see to go very fast!!!
Would be great to hear from another person their experience in doing this despite being pretty heavy (I'm currently at 238)

When I went through my 3 week plateau, I starte dto notioce I wasnt sweating as much..... I check my heart rate on the machine and it was usaully around 145-157 usually the upper end of those #'s.... Well as I was running on the elliptical during these weeks, I finally noiced on the end of my 2nd week, that I wasnt sweating as much, ( I thought, I need to drink more water) and that my heart rate was like 132-142 instead of being higher.. Here, I was doing areobic exercise, and I needed to tone down my speed, and increase my resisitance so I have to PUSH my legs to make the pedals go, not just let them self circulate on the pads.... I started weating again.. I also realized that my time seems top go faster when Im working harder, Like Im consintrating on what Im doing, not just looking at a clock as the calories go up. I dont bun the same # of calories, but Im burning fat instaed of lean tissue!

The calorie deficit really isn't probably 2200 --you got to remember to subract the time for daily living from the exercise time so if you burn 1.5 cal a minute just laying in bed - you need to subract 92 cals an hour from your exercise adn work and driving and stuff. So yes you burn 300 cals a hour doing x activity but you need to subract your daily living cals from your base rate of 2200 and then add the exercise so your extra burn is only going to be 200 not 300.

Well, I might be eating less than 1400 calories a day, but I'm not sure. I don't eat too much and it's hard for me to imagine eating more than I already do. I'm trying to eat healthy and I've heard it's best to eat six times a day (small meals) ideally every 2-3 hours?
So my resistance level on the elliptical right now is at a ramp of 20 and a level of 6. Should I increase those?

I exercise about 5 times a week. I'm not sure how I could really switch up my regimen. I don't have my permit yet so I can't drive myself to a gym. My parents are just too busy to take me. So I use my elliptical machine in my basement and the Pilate aerobic video tapes. I also have a few weights I can lift. But that's about all I have access to...

dbackerfan: I know what you are saying but this is how I think of it.. seems to work well for me...... If I eat my BMR.. What my body burns daily at rest... everything else I do is burning staraight fat. from driving walking to the retsroom, to taking the stairs at the dr's office, to showering & cooking. I burn 100-1200 cal a day at the gym. usually 800-900 a day at work sitting at a desk - light offcie duty... and the rest is general things... I count it like that. If I eat my BMR.... and then go to the gym and burn 1000-1200 calories a day, I know Im burning staright fat. Gives me incentive to push harder! Does that make sense to you?

wow~ that is soo amazing.. i've been trying to find ways to lose weight but nothing really worked.. and then i saw your post and when i read it~ i actually felt this might really work! thank you so much!! can you please help me figure out my calorie deficit?
im 151lbs. 5ft 4in. My goal weight is to be be 130lbs by August 14, 2007.. 21 pounds in a month or so seems impossible but i really want to try and go for it.. thank you again!!!!

Well it's time I gett very serious about my weight gain. I lost 50 pounds and have gained 25 back. Never tried this counting before but would love to take the journey with you all.
loosingthe pounds- you have done fab- I looked at the contest you were in. That's great,you have really taken it off.
I work out daily at the exercise class,biking,walking and swimming- yet I gain. Hope I can learn how you do the weight the correct way.
The cleansing- I thought green tea was good for you- I'm so confused on what to do. Can you give me a helping hand?
