I figured I would put this into a thread as I have explained this to quite a few people and the typing gets repetative. I will explain my story and how I did it.. this is what is working for me....
Summary: I have lost 107 lbs since Jan 1, 2007
Jan 1, 07 weighed : 363 lbs
July 27 (today) - 256 lbs ( loss of 107 lbs)
And it started like this: I went to the doctor Nov 27, 06 said I weighed 363 lbs.. NO WAY.. NOT ME..........................
I watched a video on New Years eve of my family on Christmas Day. That was not me.... I Truly thought that in my brain.... that was the night my life would change! I decided then... Lets do it. Tomorrow starts a NEW YEAR! and I did.
Ever wonder how many calories you should eat in one day? Look up your BMR (Basal Metobolic Rate) = the # of calories your body burns in a 24 hour period with your body at full rest! . It all depends on your current weight, height & age.
Mine now is about 2000 cal. Thats means my body burns 2000 cal a day even if I NEVER got out of bed.... So.. If I eat only 2000 cal a day.... EVERYTHING I do all I am doing is burning calories! Everything from waking up, to driving, to dressing, to grocery shopping, to working, to chasing kids, to showering.... burning extra fat! Every 3500 calories you burn... you burn a pound of stored fat. So if you eat nothing but your BMR, then of course your burning more calories that you eat, because what you eat, ( your BMR) your body burns NATURALLY to live! If you eat 2000 cal (MINUS) what your body burns automatically (2000) then you have ZERO calories left. Everything you do your burning calories, even digesting food your burning calories.... so of course you will have a Negative Calories Number. This # is called your calorie deficit. I can help you figure out your calorie deficit as well. I know this is long, but I have been helping everyone that emails me, and its easier to refer them to this, and then everyone who wants there own BMR or Calorie Deficit to email me with your #'s and I will respond back . I hope this is helpful.. Questions PLEASE ASK!!!!

I eat 6-7 times a day...
6:30 - 7:00 AM / 9:30-10:00 / NOON / 2:00- 2:30 / 4:45- 5:00 ( before I leave work - cause by the time I go to the gym, I dontget home till 8 Pm, and I dont want to eat that late) and a snack at 7:30 - 8:00 ....
Snacks never go above 250 calories
Remember this.. If it comes in a box or a bag DON't EAT IT... If God didnt give it to us naturally, then dont eat it. There are slim exceptions mainly being yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, I do eat All Brab / Bran Buds for my fiber..
SHOP THE OUTSIDE PERIMITER OF THE GROCERY STORE. THAT IS THE FRESH / KEEP COLD ISLES.

that is so good and i hope up the good work .i am 5'1 and weight 175 and i am trying so hard to lose 30 pounds and i get on the treadmill everyday and walk at 3mph 4 miles a day.I got on the scale this morning and the scale said i weight about 171 and the i went up stairs and got on another scale and it said i weight 177 so what do i go by. I think i need to take in more calories a day because i dont eat that much.so maybe i should start eating more calories oh and does it matter weather i have juice to build up the calories i need in a day or do i need food.
How many calories are you eating? NEVER less than 1200..... If you cant get to 1200 you can add juice or Almonds.. high calories GOOD FOODS! Please let me know.... and as for the scale, take the scale to several places through the house like 7... the # you get most often.. Use on of those places to weigh in at. Some houses tilt, or carpet under the scale maakes the difference... Hope this helps....
I just found out by the test I'm OBESE! Ouch that hurt. I thought I was a little over weight. I'm 5'3 and 175. OK- got to really get this off. Any words of wisdome for me?

I dont really have words of wisdom.... I dont feel my words are wisdom, I am the same as you... I just explained how I did what I did. You have to be committed or I dont think it would work. Eat whole foods.. .Fruits, veggies, chicken, turkey, seafood.... low calorie filling foods..... Remember try not to eat anything out of a box or bag. ITS PROCESSED.... I do eat Bran Buds in my yogurt though..... Not everything you eat will be Whole, or Organic... but Im talking eat yogurt w/ Bran buds and a cheese stick instead of chip & dip. You get the point. OK no processed foods,how about low fat,sugar free icecream?
It's a great treat after a long hot walk. I walk several miles a day and it's 96 plus heat index of 104- no breeze and 100% humidity. Is this a good idea or just eat a smoothie? I have a feeling I know the answer.

The answer is do as you wish...... But to me... After I know I just worked out.. I dont want to RUIN my work out with guilt that I could have eaten something better...... I am my own worst enemy!!!!
Congrats on your big lose!!! How in the world do you burn that many calories on the eliptical! I can only do probably half that for an hour! Also could you possibly email me basically everything you know. Ha I dont really get this 6 meals a day thing. I dont get what to eat each of those times. Also could you tell me some great exercises that would burn alot of calories?? (If you have some). I'm really desperate to lose weight! You can email me at wan2bfit@hotmail.com . Do you weigh/measure everything you eat? I'm having trouble being that dilligent. I estimate a lot and I fear that is why I'm not losing.
I do not weigh anything I dont even have a scale. My bran buds say 1/3 cup, I do grab a measuring cup. I guesstimate, but I was over guesstimate. a serving of meat is generally the size of your fist. pork chop, steak, ect.... If Im eating strawberries ..... ( i cut them all up) and measure out a cup , and put them in ziplocs..... Easy grabs... but as a general rule. I dont really meausre much.
I overestimate as well. I don't know why I'm not losing then.
I stay between 1200-1800. I probably should drink more water. How much water do you drink?
I get 30 min. of exercise a day right now (I'm still a bit new to this).

rach1~~ drink 1/2 your weight in ounces of water.... I know I dont drink my daily amount now.. I used too.. cant seem to right now unless its hot. I drink when Im thirsty!!!

Loosingthepounds - I just want to thank you for your wonderful posts and advice. You have been my motivation since joing CC in June. I have been "eating my BMR" for the past two months and have lost a total of 8 pounds. I know that doesn't sound like much, but over the past year, even though I have been dieting well and exercising I just kept gaining weight. I finally started eating more and "tada". So, I just wanted to say thank you.

loosingthepounds ~ Great post. I'm new to CC but very eager to lose my excess weight and be more healthy. I'm really trying to stay on top of my calorie intake (for the past 2 weeks) and am in my 5th week of hitting the gym 5x a week. I've finally lost 1 lb as of today but don't seem to be seeing a huge difference. My clothes are fitting better and seem to be getting a little baggy, yet I'm still not seeing a difference in the scale. Any feedback?
