Lost 10lbs. in ONE week

Quote  |  Reply
As I was searching for how many calories were in fruits and veggies, I found this site and thought it was GREAT!

I am 23 y/o and weigh 194 as of today. When I started my diet LAST Monday 6/4/07 I weighed 204lbs. I had a complete physical about 2 weeks and go, and my doctor started me on the prescription weight loss medication : Adipex. I started taking the same day I started the diet. I have lost TEN POUNDS in one week.

IS THIS HEALTHY? Im sure it is water weight, right? I use tp intake about 2500 calories a day (guesstament). I was known for drinking Coca Cola all day long. I have gone to drinking about a gallon of water a day, probably more, I am the point of being nauseated at the sight of it. I have been intaking about 550-600 calories a day. I also have not excerised. I have my game plan for that though. I have been price matching Ellipticals, and plan to purchase one this week. I plan to do a 30 min. workout in the morning, and 30 min. at night. I work two jobs, so I have no time for a gym.

I am totally clueless on whats the correct way to loose weight.l I thought the less calories you intake, you will lose weight. From what I read, I was totally wrong.

EVERYONE, PLEASE TEACH ME -- HELP!!

When I first started I also lost about 10 lbs the first week.. yes its water weight..LOL.  You need to use the tools on this site to find out how many calories you need aday.. 500 is nowhere near enough. I am on 1250 calorie diet and remember to "eat back" what you burn in excercise. I have lost 20 lbs since april.. YAY! You have come to the right place!! Now go find out how many calories you need to be eating before you hurt yourself!! Congratulations and Good Luck!!
Okay, let me clue you in.
First of all, even if your dieting, you need to consume at LEAST 1200 if your a female or 1500 cal. if your a male. 550-600 cals. is WAY too low. You will find that you will never lose weight if you cut down that much. The trick to losing weight is not to starve yourself but to be Healthy.
Im not so sure about the diet pills. Ussually these are not good for you and/or have a secret that they dont want to you to know.
Talk to your doctor more about the risks of them and EXACTLY HOW they make you lose weight. A healthy weight-loss for a one week time frame is about 1-2 pounds. Occasionally three.
Now, to lose weight healthily, You need to burn more calories than you eat. But at the same time, you NEED calories before working out and after. But HEALTHY carbs. I ussually like maybe some celery with a spoonful of natural peanut butter ( great source of protein to boost your workout).
Good luck to you, and if you have any questions, you can private message me.

Im so excited!!! This site is AWESOME, and VERY motivating. Everyone is soo nice! What exactly is good to eat for someone who works 16 hours a day and dosent have time to cook, to get 1200 calories? I have been LOTS of fresh fruit and veggies all week. Today I had grapes for breakfest. A turkey sandwich (1 slice, and 1 slice of cheese) for lunch with celery. A 100 calorie pack cheese-its for a snack, and for dinner a salad and one peice of skinless grilled chicken breast. I figured today to be about a 850-900 calorie day. I have been eating the weight watcher meals for lunch all week and a just a salad for dinner. With the fuit and veggies about 3x a day as snacks. What do you eat? (Im a picky eater)

thanks, ERIN
Maybe, Add some more protein. Good protein... Not necessarely red meats, but chicken and fish. yum yum!

What does your workout consist of? I have literally not worked out in YEARS. This week I started walking up 4 flights of stairs instead of taking the elevator at work, and I thought I was listerally about to die.
You might consider adding almonds, walnuts, pecans, and sunflower seeds to your snack items. You can have them anywhere. they are highly nutritious, very beneficial to your body!

By the way, welcome aboard!
Kudos to you for switching to stairs! Keep progressing with cardio. CARDIO CARDIO CARDIO. Thats about the only MAGIC TRICK to toning up and getting thinner. It will increase your endurance tremendously! And yes, I agree, welcome aboard!
also if you go too low, then you tend to go nuts after a couple of days and eat a lot. I put in one or two low cal days a week to balance up when we go out to eat at dinner, and that's been working well.

As for adipex, I just wanted to say that I have a friend who took that and she nearly went psychotic over it. So if you see some major mood change, quit it at once.
I don't know of adipex. I don't think you can get such prescription drugs in Britain. I do think your calorie intake is very low though, particularly given your daily work schedule. You could take some almonds to work with you or soya nuts - these are packed with goodness and will keep you going (in moderation of course). Try to eat 5 pieces of fruit a day and 8 large glasses of water. Currently, what you are doing does not seem sustainable to me, though it's good you cut out the coke - that will have been screwing up your blood sugar level and making you constantly hungry. I really recommend walking - you can do it anywhere at anytime. I also bought some MBTs and they have been amazing - if you are on your feet all day, they are great for posture also. You will find, unless you up your calories the exercise will burn you out and you will end up real hungry and your body will hang on to the fat 'cos it thinks you are starving. Eat a good healthy breakfast (oats, millet flakes) with apple juice, a good lunch and evening meal (fresh produce is preferable to weight watchers ready-meals). You could invest in a quick and easy cookbook for weight-loss. I hope this helps in some way. Good luck!
Thanks for all the pointers everyone!

I actually have not noticed any side affects of the Adipex, as of yet. I will only be taking it for about 3 months my doctor says. He says after that, it does not work anymore. He states that he has been prescribing it for about 25 years, and he thinks its the safest thing prescription wise. I will have to go back once a month for 2 more months, to have blood work, and an another EKG to make sure everything is ok. I just wondering though, does that stuff really help?, or am I just putting my body at risk? I have a co-worker who goes to the same Dr. and she started on it about 1 week before me, and she has lost about 15 pds. in 3 weeks.  ??? Im clueless at this point.

What is the best work out equipment to buy for home? Any suggestions? For someone who cant get to the gym?
Did you research Adipex before you started taking it??  I just did a quick internet search for it and it's scary stuff.  It can cause pulmonary hypertension. It can impair you thinking and is habit forming.  Withdrawal symptoms can be extreme tiredness and depression.   It actually affects your nervous system.
So, I wonder though, if it is still safe to use under close supervision of my PCP? Does anyone else take any diet pills?
Try adding some fat free milk to your diet.

Using the stairs is GREAT!!!  Maybe you should do the stairs a couple more times during the day, since you don't have time to workout.  I bet you'll be amazed at how fast it will become much easier.

Good luck!
Please work toward increasing your food intake at breakfast - a bunch of grapes is not enough - try some oatmeal or Kaschi cereal with milk or some yogurt with granola & sliced fruit.  Don't tell me you don't usually eat breakfast because, for your good health, it is by far the most important meal of the day.

Hi erin, welcome to calorie count. Any kind of diet pills are going to be dangerous because they work either by coating fat with chemicals and making it unabsorbable by the body or by changing your endocrine function to make more digestive enzymes. There are many problems with this. In the first case, you are not going to be absorbing vitamins (many are fat soluble) no matter how many fruits or vegetables you eat, and for that matter vitamin pills. When you change your internal functions, especially something as fragile as your endocrine system, everything becomes affected: your mood, your sleeping patterns, your hunger levels adjust to a new and "set" way, and when you stop taking the pills, your body goes into shock. First, all the fat that was not absorbed before will start to overabsorb because the body stopped trying to get rid of it naturally. Second, your endocrine system will say "I quit" during the diet pill cycle, since there is no use for it. It's REALLY hard, near impossible to get it back on board- and you need your endocrine system for much more than just losing a few pounds. In addition, I have a friend who took diet pills and then took some other over the counter pill and had two aneurisms. Now she has much more to worry about.

Please, please, if you want to be healthy, the only way is the natural way- cut down 500 calories a day from what your intake was before and walk 10,000 steps or do cardio 30 minutes a day. If you cut down much more, your body will go into starvation mode and pack on all the fat in your food. A pound of fat is 3500 calories, so if you cut down 500 calories a day, this= 1 pound of fat a week. You don't need to, and shouldn't do it faster- you need to give your body time to adjust. I was overweight for 15 years and I didn't mind if it took me a year to lose all that weight. I lost 20 pounds so far (4 months) and I have 20 more to go, but now I am 1000% more healthy than I ever was. My b.p is great and my pulse is 50.  Becoming a healthy eater and exerciser is the key, and it's difficult to achieve after diet pills. Please consider doing it the natural way with the help and support of your community and this site! Much love and good luck!
my sister and her friends take it. my step mom's mom takes it. It works for them. I have taken it it made me feel weird. Like i  was taking narcotics like vicoden or percocet. So i dont know.
