Lost 17 pounds and nobody notices????
Im 5'7" & went from 141 to 124 and nobody has said anything?? friends, co-workers none seem to notice. y??
My partner never notices anything and he really sucks at giving compliments that make me feel good...so I just tell him to "repeat after me...damn baby...you're hot" or something like that. I get my compliment, we get a laugh out of it AND it makes him realize that a little sweetness every once in awhile goes a long way :)
I've lost over 60 lbs and nobody who didn't already know I was working on it (because we talked about it) has said a word. Not even people that I have meetings with once or twice a year, that I did not see at all between 340 and 290. Not one! But I still have a lot to lose, so I figure that it is either not all that noticable yet or that they don't want to say anything because I am still fat. Maybe at 100 lbs they will notice. But again, I am only doing this for me and to ease the health worries of my friends and family.
"On another note, back in college long ago I'd porked up to 243. I got a grip and got to 206 with 12 percent body fat. "
GAH!!! LOL I started at 245, and am currently at 206.5...never thought of myself as a "porker ", until you pointed that out to me! hahaha Good thing I got a grip...thanks trainwreck. =)
Oh, and no one has commented on my weight loss. No one. But funny thing is when I was gaining weight, people always mentioned it to me. Hmmm
If women are looking for men to say something and they are not, this means they are smart men and know better. It is like Fight Club, you just don't talk about weight with women.
cencalgrl, I get the worst combo, people ask if I have lost weight when I have really gained some. :|
I went from 215 and im currently 170 and really its just been recently that ppl have commented on my weightloss and I get the WOW you look GREAT how are you doing it remarks.........but again im not doing this for them its for me so either way doesnt make me stop just because the comments didnt come fluttering in after I lost a few pounds...........
Samantha,
Think of it this way at 5' 7" and 141 you were in pretty decent shape to start. Your taller than average which means you'll carry your weight much better than average. Now your 5'7" and 126 which is pretty darn impressive.
As for folks noticing, I can assure you men have noticed and will keep noticing. They won't say much about it cause they will be afraid they will offend you if they say something like, "Hey you look great after taking off a few pounds!" because it's like saying hey you needed to lose some weight, glad you did, now I REALLY like you. Most women aren't going to compliment you because they are jealous or too busy caught up in their own lives...but rest assured they do notice. Of course that all sounds shallow and it is but that's how most people are a lot of the time.
If you really want to focus some attention on the fact you've lost and look great might be time for a new outfit of some sort. You know you do deserve to reward yourself for what you've accomplished and one little shopping expedition seems reasonable.
trainwreck thanks for the post. Its awesome to hear that. Its just crazy when nobosy says anyhting. Not one person. Sometimes makes me want to strive to lose even more
Hi, I have lost a lot of weight at one point and i have gained it too. What i have noticed is that when you are thin or you loose weight a lot of people dont say anything, but trust me they notice. When you gain it everyone lets you know how you put on the pounds. I think as long as you know you are shedding the weight off stay focused. What i like to do is take pictures and look at the difference yourself.
How about a change in perspective...perhaps people don't notice your weight loss because you now match the way they thought you looked. So instead of not noticing your weight loss, they failed to notice your prior weight gain?
thats a great point smwhipple. never thought of that. A lot of the people I work with are older ladies and men, i guess they dont see change in anything though.
smwhipple do you know how to beat a plateu?? I seem to have quit losing, and have stayed at 126 for about 2 weeks. people have said to up my cals??? What is your advice???? I could try doing that but im terrified of gaining back the weight..... How long will it take for me to start losing again if I do up my cals
Sometimes you feel the difference when no one else sees it. And sometimes you need to wear something different (smaller
) that will show off the new you.
Hey guess what today someone finally said something!!! It was one of the older guys here. He said " hey are you getting skinnier??" I did have on my skinny jeans with heels and a fitted blouse, so thats prob why he noticed, but hey it felt great!!!
Weight or appearance in general can be a touchy subject for co-workers. Depending on what kind-of atmosphere you're in, people don't want to cross a line or take a chance on offending someone. Don't take it personally.
samantha, at 5'7" and 126.5 lbs, I think you're perfect. If you really want to go lower, then I'd suggest looking up zig zagging which a lot of people have reported success with.
According to the CDC BMI calculator for adults you've got a BMI of 19.8. According to the CC tools, you're slightly underweight. The WHO standards for normal are 18.5-25. So, depending on the results you really want, you can go as low as an 18.5 BMI and still be normal according to the CDC/WHO standards. 118 lbs would put you at 18.5 BMI which is the lowest you should even consider.
I think your best bet at this point is to work on building muscle tone which will give you the appearance of being more slender and get you in really good shape. As far as losing additional weight goes, these are not going to be the easy pounds to lose if your body isn't inclined to do it and they will most likely take a while to lose. Even while zig zagging, make sure that you don't go below the 1200F/1500M calories per day.
Shoot, I went from a size 18 in March, to a size 10 and it wasn't until the past two weeks that anyone finally noticed. I'm glad though, I really wanted to be low key about the whole thing anyway. The more people notice and they more it's talked about, the more pressure there is on you and the more people watch you and wait for you to mess up.
Thanks for all the post. The last 2 days I upped my cals to 1250 (not easy!) and then this a.m i got on the scale and it said 125!!! I was so happy and its my TOTM! I dont know if just those 2 days of change in cals made the diff or not????
First of all congrats Samantha1104 on the weight loss. I thought I was the only one who lost nearly 9lbs (though sounds measly, for me it has been a big achievement) and was not being noticed by anyone. Forget about the people who see me daily, even those who saw me after a long time have made not a comment. Now I know I am not alone and actually have started feeling better.
I'm guessing that since you were already at a healthy weight, and still are, people won't "mention it" until you look dangerously thin. You went from "slender and healthy" to "slender and healthy" in their minds - it's when you "category jump" that people say things.
So maybe you don't want to keep going "until they mention it". :)
Like for me, no one said anything (except my close friends, who knew I was doing this) until I went from "quite obese" to " sort of overweight". I had to lose over 40 lbs (and a chin) to get a single comment from an acquaintance! Before that it was just "big" to "big", if you know what I mean.
ive lost 20lbs, people who ive been around everyday never noticed the weightloss until they saw previous pictures and then they were like "oh my god!" also people who i didnt see in a long time noticed and said i look good hehe so that really boosts your confidence. dont worry about it. and some people actually do notice, they just dont know how to approach you with it.
