Lost 7.5 pounds in 7 days? Medicine makes me feel sick.

I have been having a hard time eating enough calories since I started on a new ADD medicine. I have been aiming for 1400 on non workout days and 1600 on days when I have dances class. Unfortunately I have been getting from 900-1200 a day on non workout days, and about 1300-1400 on days that I have my 1.5 hour ballet class. I am trying to eat as healthy as possible, proteins, good fats, fruit, peanut butter, skim milk and almond milk, fiber, lots of water, no sodas or juice....It is just hard because I feel so sick to my stomach.

Am I losing weight too quickly? I went from 134 to 126.5 in about a week. I am 5'4", and trying to get to 110-115 for ballet...but I don't want to lose muscle, or mess my metabolism up. I just want to lose a little weight so that I can present a better line and prevent injury en pointe.

Add some natural fruit juice to your diet. I know it's got a lot of calories... but it sounds like you need them! Ballet burns a LOT of calories... seven pounds in a week is WAY too much to be healthy!

Thanks! What types of organic juice do you recommend? Also how much do you recommend daily? 2-3 servings?

Nuts, avocadoes, olive oils, dried fruits, nut butters (though I see the PB in there!)... all of these will be your friend. Make smoothies and shakes if you can't stomach foods too well. I'm so sorry your medication is making you feel ill! Make sure to bring it up with your doctor when you see them, you should probably switch to another :\

I do not know if this will help but my son has the same issue he does not really eat on his ADHD meds, and the dr. suggested to make sure in the AM either before the pill or right after he takes it to eat something with alot of protein like a sausage, egg and cheese sandwhich, etc and there are healthy ones with turkey sausage, light cheese and eggwhites there in the freezer section (and actrally really good) the main thing she said was getting protein in the AM before the meds REALLy kick in....Hope that helped

If you can, eat the whole fruit and not just the juice.  Juice only gives you the calories from the sugar, and a few nutrients.  Whole fruit gives you the fiber as well, and is much easier on your body as the sugar gets absorbed more slowly into your body.  Drinking juice is pretty much like drinking soda.

Thanks! I will try the protein in the morning! I have recently started Concerta again, because I have a hard time focusing at work. I thought I would be ok after college, but no dice : (.

I have been eating frosted shredded wheat and almond milk w/ Carnation Instant Bfast in the am. I will try to get some eggs down with that or maybe some soy sausages.

Yeah concerta was the worse one for my son, hopefully it works for you.

If you read the OP's post, she's eating plenty of nutritious food... but because her meds make her feel ill she can't get enough of it down in a day. She NEEDS to increase her calories for more energy, and juice (as long as it's REAL juice and not from concentrate or with sugar added) is a good energy-booster that's not too hard to get down if you feel sickly. More nuts and protein would be better for her - but not if she can't swallow them!

I was on Concerta for a while, too, though I was never actually nauseous. Your dose might be a little high.

Your breakfast sounds perfect. It might help for you to sip on a protein shake throughout the day, too, if possible. Maybe drink some Ensure? Actually, try making a smoothie out of milk, sugar free hot chocolate, and peanut butter with some ice cubes.

That's why I said "If you can....".  In her original post, she didn't mention fruit.  Fruit is a good way to get your calories up without feeling like you have anything heavy in your stomach, which may or may not help her.  Again, that's why I said "If you can".
