Lost 13 pounds/Still wearing same size. What's wrong with this picture?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey, I have been restricting calories pretty consistently for months and recently (about 3 months) starting jogging 3-4 times week for 30-55 minutes.

I never eat what I want or binge anymore yet I still can't get the rest of this weight off. The frustrating thing is that sometimes I weigh 150 and sometimes 146. I once weighed 145 but never below that. In my teens and early twenties, I consistently weighed an average of 135. I would be perfectly happy getting back down to that!

I am very involved in church so I do end up eating some bad foods (but a bite or a half or a smidgen of what I used to) and sometimes splurge out to eat, but, again not anything like I used to and I always think I calculate it to be within my cals for the day.

Why is this ring of blubber around my waist not going anywhere and most importantly why can't I get out of a size 12?? I used to average around a size 6-8 when I was in the 130's. Shouldn't I be consistently be dropping pounds with all of this restricting, jogging, and calorie counting? What's the deal? Am I STILL eating too much?

I am 33, 5'3", 148 lbs (today) and my calorie allowance is 1400 cal/day whether or not I jog that day.

People have noticed that I've lost weight. My face and arms show the weight loss. Maybe my calves and thighs too. But instead of busting out of a size 12, it fits sort of loosely, but not falling off. What is wrong? Does anyone else have this problem? Is my scale lying to me?

I lost 15 pounds and still wear the same size, but it fits looser now.  Weightloss won't show on everyone at a magic number. You'll see results soon. Just keep going.

I've noticed my face has more definition now and my bras fit better too. You're doing good. It is easy to lose weight, it just takes time.  You're doing it right. Hang in there...you'll be a single digit pant size one day soon (btw, that's my goal too!).

But instead of busting out of a size 12, it fits sort of loosely, but not falling off. What is wrong?

The answer is kind of in your question. This happened to me, too. I was wearing a pair of Levi size 15 jeans when I was at my heaviest of 245. I was crammed into them, really. They were tight all over...in the thighs and waist. I think they ran a little big, too.

Now those jeans don't fit me, but at 195 I am wearing another size 15 pair of jeans.

Fifty pounds later, the scale and the pictures are evidence that I have lost weight. So have you.

Have you had a kiddo since your size 6-8 days? Sometimes that changes our body composition, and it takes more time and effort to get back to were we want to be.

I have more fat around my midsection, but it is slowly fading away.

Give it time and keep up the good work! Your scale is not lying to you, I promise!

Mperic81, well that gives me some hope. At least I am not the only one that's happened to. Thanks for the encouragement!

Kelleigh, I was definitely pushing a size 14 and now I'm not but I guess I just thought that I mightv be able to get into a 10 by now. It used to be so EASY to lose the extra lbs.

As for the kids, I had my kids before my weight gain and actually lost a lot of weight after my last kid just by eating clean. I cut all sugar, fried foods, and and only ate meats that were grilled or baked. I got down to 123lbs and people said I looked like I was on crack. I am not meant to be that thin, and I have to confess that eating like that was boring but was like a super metabolism booster.

I may have to start restricting more bad foods again (sometimes I allow myself a fast food hamburger with no mayo or cheese but I may have to cut that out?)

Anyway, congrats on the weight loss to you both!

iv lost 40lbs and only recently i bought my first pair of size 14(uk)jeans,was wearing a size 16(uk)since i was 15.

iv just knowtist that my clothes look better and are comfier.

your doing reli well so just keep at it,people loose weight from different areas faster for my my sides around my ribs lost fat first.

congratulations on the weight loss so far xx

Thank you Cathy. You've lost 40 lbs and are wearing one size smaller? Wow. Isn't the size 14 (UK) like a size 8 or 6(US)?

Anyway, I guess all that matters is how we look and feel but I sure would like to lose about 15 more lbs. and most of this belly. I'm afraid until its gone, I won't feel very excited about what weight I've lost. :(

Congrats on the huge weight loss! Must feel great!

I've lost 20 pounds and I'm still wearing the same size. However, everything fits me BETTER and is a bit loose. Not quite enough to go down to a 16, but I'm waiting!

I know it is frustrat9ng.  I was 193 wearing a tight 12.  now I am all over the place. I have lost 40.  and in a 10,  I can do an 8 in Gap loose jeans.  My bra went down a cup to 36C ( was 38D).  But after I had my 2nd child 7 years ago I was this weight and a comfortable 8.

Lets keep it up!  I have been jogging and it has been taking the weght off all over lately.

Its so weird how our bodies carry our weight differently. Are you taller than me? If I got up to 193 I would be wearing a size 18 or something.

You look great and jogging does take it off from all over. I notice a place here or there that feels different. More toned or just different. It's a good feeling. I am just impatient. It seems like I am always having to wait to jog. This week I can't because I have a YI, last week I was in bed due to TOM, and the week before that it rained for days and flooded the area (actually two weeks in a row).

I really need a treadmill!

Congrats on the weight loss.

I am 5-7, used to weigh 185, now weigh 165, and I've only gone down from a 12 to a 10...I'd love to say i'm smaller than a 10, but not yet.

I know you would think I would be wearing a size 18 at 193lbs  I am not quite 5'4!  I had my kids at 200-205

Thank you for the compliment! I am getting there.  Its been windy here but I am managing to run when I can. Where my kids go to Karate at 5:30 ( I kick box at the same place at 9:30)  I have been running while they are in class.  They have a long round parking lot in the business strip they are in. Not many cars pass by.  2 Rounds ( up a hill then down) is 1 mile. So while they are in class I do a few laps.  For some reason I run better at 5:30.  I thinks its because I am at home working on the computer and phone that I need the movement!  I also keep some bands in my office. If I get tight I take a 15 minute break and do some band exercises.

I have NEVER been a jogger-runner.  I was ther girl in P.E. in HS coming in last with friends walking and talking.  I am actually enjoying it.  I think alot, What's for dinner, kids, hubby, and even pray while I run.  Its a nice time and My time.

I also found out that I have runners Asthma. No wonder I never liked it!  So I bring my puffer with me!

I know about the church thing and food. Why is it Christians seem to focus on food and fellowship?  hmmm well there are many places in the Bible that talk about Jesus having dinner here and there and all the kings Banquets.  I guess we must hold it up!  Whenever I go to church or a church function I bring a 32oz container of water with me. I also drink 16ozs before I leave the house.  It seems to help.  I have never been one for sweets but the potlucks can get you.  Now that I have been doing this site I have to type everything in.  It s a pain and takes time. When there are certain things not on the site you have to improvise. More time so why not just not eat it! LOL

Keep in mind when you get older and have had kids your body does change and move around.  You are still pretty young.  Get it off now it you can. I have always been a yo yo one.  This is off for good this time. I also had my kids at 37 and 39 (same birthday too LOL). I am now 45. Having kids later in life ( Not my choice.. i tired for 8 years- Gods timing). make it harder to loose. So if you want more have em now!

Take care!

Don't feel bad, I've lost 42 lbs., and I'm still wearing the same size pants.  The legs and butt have loosened up a lot, but the waist just doesn't change.  I'm sure it will happen eventually (I hope!).

mabenner1, I WISH I got down to a size 10, then I could say I dropped 1 dress size since I started :). I'm a size 12, but most of my wardrobe are size 10, since that was what I was most comfortable in before I gained this weight in the last 4 years. I'm 161 and the only thing I can say is my size 12's are more comfortable, but my 10's (all but one pair of capris) are too tight to wear.

Wow, it seems like the stomach fat may be the culprit in all of this. Pants and skirts are loosening up in the leg and thigh but staying put around the middle. For me anyway!

Summersmom, wow! We seem to have some things in common. I smoked for years. Too ashamed to say how many! But I also was the girl who would rather talk and walk when we ran laps. Although it was just because I was too cool to run. Lol!

Now, I love to run. In my early 20's I ran two miles/day and stayed trim. Then i SLOWLY let myself gain 30 lbs eating all of the foods I wouldn't have touched when I was younger. It was fun while it lasted but I want my body back.

I also think alot while I jog. And pray. I even worked out my testimony one time. I was in tears throughout most of it but what a great time of healing for me. I also plan, plan, plan. Dinner, what I need to buy for the kids, what book of the bible I read next, etc.

That's great that your husband is behind you. I have one of those who gets grumpy if I don't make some "real" food often enough.lol. I can't wait until he gets his first scary physical exam and wants to start eating smarter. I will be locked and loaded and ready to go.

Anyway, nice talking to you. hope to talk more later.

It took me 3 months to drop one size, so i feel your pain.  I found that introducing weight lifting really helped in cutting fat, and feeling/ looking slimmer all around. I use 5 pound dumbbells, and they make all the difference.

I think clothes might have something to do with frame size as well. When I was at my fittest, I was 140, at 5'6" and wore size 10 (US) and I have never been able to go down lower than that ever, even though I looked like a beanpole.

Try figuring out what your frame size is here http://www.healthstatus.com/cgi-bin/calc/calc ulator.cgi and then try checking the result against the ideal weight chart for your frame here http://www.changingshape.com/resources/refere nces/idealbodyweight.asp... everyone of all heights have different frame sizes... :D

And just before I started dieting and exercising again, my pants were really tight and my stomach and hips bulged... I've lost 8lbs and now my pants just sit a bit looser than it used to be... so you're on the right track!
