Have you lost weight using calorie count?
I started bicycling more to improve fitness last spring, and going to the gym in August. In September, after weighing myself for the first time in a long time and seeing "183" on the scale, I started counting calories informally (no logging or measuring), lost 8 lbs rapidly, then plateaed at 175. I found cc through the calorie lookups, and started reading the forums, signed up in November, and have been logging and participating in the forums since then.
I've lost 12 lbs since joining cc, now 163.
C-C was the best thing I've ever done for myself.

I started on Calorie-Count in August 2007. In the 5.5 months since then, I've lost 81.6 pounds. And my cholesterol is now NORMAL!

5 lbs in a little over 3 weeks since I joined. The community and tools here are really invaluable. I used to count calories before, but everything was an estimate (I was severely guilty of underestimating the calories of everything I ate). CC makes it much easier. Plus, w/out these forums I would have never known about Laughing Cow cheese or shirataki noodles, or starvation mode. Or diet soda + cake mix. How awesome is that?
I love CC and I love watching that scale number down ![]()
Eating in moderation and working out totally work! There's no secret!
Well my weightlog says it all:

When I joined CC I was 94kg(207) heavy now it's down to 78.5kg(172lbs) as of today. I started losing weight before joining CC. Back then I was 100kg - 220lbs heavy. The point where I realized that this can't go any further. I got to 94kg within two months by just stopping to eat potato chips, chocolate and other junk, while eating normally like I used to. I also stopped drinking soft drinks at that time, which sure helped a lot too, the only thing I drink since then is Water, lot's of it ![]()
After some time I found this site, and got great insights to what food was all about, energy nothing else, what I knew all along came clearer to me. I sorted out the foods that where calorie dense and was going for the food that where high in fibre, I started to eat more fruits and less fat. I stopped using butter and white bread, instead I went for whole grain and low fat cream cheese on my bread. Cutting visible fat off helped also a lot. I also got a new idea of food overall: I always thought meat makes you fat and cheese is good, ha! Completely wrong, lean meat is pretty low in cals and makes you feel full for a much longer time than diary products ever could.
To be honest, I only counted cals the first two months being here, then, after knowing almost every food I eat regularly by cals(yeah it's cool you see that slice of bread and your brain puts a "70 cals" tag on it!) i stopped counting completely. It's a bit sad though, because I'm all for the stats and would love to look back on what I ate the last months. But I don't really have the time to look after everything I've eaten, I guess it's enough to see my weight graph going down and down again, when I reached the magic 80kg goal(and that two weeks prior to what CC calculated back when I was still 94kg heavy) I was really happy about myself and seeing how I did it. My new and final goal is 72kg(158lbs) now, I will try to maintain tht wheight, after reaching it, for the rest of my life. only 6.5kg to go, that looks so small to the 15.5kg I already lost. If CC is right I will reach my final goal in may, oh yeah! ![]()
by the way: It's great to wear M-Size shirts instead of XL
CC's community is really great...supportive, motivated, w/lots of information and stories to share. There is SO MUCH information that you will really want to research things for yourself before accepting all you read here as truths.
Or, maybe you won't. Anyway, there is something really wonderful about this site...
I started to count calories 1 year ago. I lost 40 pounds using it. But in total I lost 85 pounds in a 3 years period.
I am maintaining for 3 months now. My weight fluctuates in a 10 pounds range and my pants still fits the same, maybe even a bit loose now.
Well its been 25 days of being on this site, logging my workouts and food intake. I started at 222.2lbs and now I'm already down to 213.6lbs. Just under 4ish weeks and Ive dropped 8.6lbs already.
Ive been working out a lot... about 1.5hrs of Cardio, ab work, and lifting. I constantly eat more than my recommended intake but I have to because I burn about 1500 calories a day just in my workout, my daily deficit is usually huge even with the extra eating I've been doing.
Basically seeing what goes in, and what is burned off has become very helpful. This site makes it a little easier to keep track of what I need to be doing (or not doing).
oh yeah! i lost 58 pounds since i started on 9/4 :D i could never have done it without this site!!!
it's awesome!!!
CC is fabulous!
I started in July 2006 using an Excel Spreadsheet. I found CC when looking up recipe calorie values. After a couple of months, I switched over to CC full time. I lost 35 lbs in three months, then plateaued for a year (lost 10 more lbs). I had stopped counting and started exercising.
I came back to CC and learned about starvation mode, figured out I wasn't eating enough anymore (with my exercise burn), and added to my daily calories. I've lost 10 lbs in the last 6 weeks by using the CC-tools again. It's the greatest!
I'm a rookie on this site, and have found it to be invaluable.
I've dropped 17lbs. since January 7, and hope to lose another 30 or so. Counting calories works, and this site makes it pretty easy for calorie counting to become a habit.
The other users are also very helpful.
How often should you eat during the day?
It is neither necessary to eat every two hours nor to stop eating at 6:00 PM. As long as your calorie intake is less than your output... Read more
