Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k Why I LOVE the Atkins diet
because i love meat and cheese! and I eat all I want!
i've lost a lot of weight on this diet, and i looove it.
I was calori-ecounting for a while, but I just couldnt do it. by counting calories i was always thinking "i cant eat that thick juicy steak...theres too many calories in that" or "i can't eat that cheese. cheese is horribly packed with calories." but on atkins i can eat all the meat and cheese i want! its all about finding a diet that allows you to eat the things you love. and i love meat. and cheese. (if that isnt obvious by now, lol)
not only that but I eat pancakes or waffles (theyre low carb but they're still very good. surprisingly good) with peanut butter on them (call me weird, but i like it) with fried or scrambled eggs for breakfast every morning, sometimes bacon as well!
I made this post because I just wanted to say two things.
1) i'm very happy to have switched to this diet and that ive lost a considerable amount of weight on it.
and
2) I hope everyone out on this website who wants to lose weight will be strong and stick to it, wether they do so by calorie-counting, diets, excercizing, or just eating right (or a combination of those) and that all of you are able to still eat the foods you enjoy while doing so. That's the most important part for losing weight. you have to love the food to stick to it.
lol maybe not everyone else is as crazy about meat and cheese as i am, but there are other foods out there in other diets or whatever. i hope everyone finds something that allows them to eat what they want.
Peace.

you'll get no argument from me, not about the Atkins diet, but about the principle that you don't have to eat foods you don't like to lose weight. God has given us such a rich bounty of foods from the plant and animal kingdoms that there simply is no reason for anyone to be eating foods he or she does not enjoy.
That's why, i believe, so many feel deprived and end up failing, because they are eating foods they don't enjoy.
I love the food I eat. it is delicious and filling.

So you're losing weight from this? Wow!
Are you actually having fat leaving your body, or is it just weight?
|'m glad you've found something that works for you. =]

its fat leaving my body. lol. im like 10-15 pounds away from being bikini body ready, and i was almost two hundred pounds last year!
hey if you can live forever without bread and potatoes more power to ya!!!
its the low carb diet. it was big a while ago, but then the hype died down. works pretty well though. the basic guideline is to take in no more than 20g of net carbs a day.
you find out the net carbs by taking the grams of carbs and subtracting the grams of fibre and then also subtracting the grams of sugar alcohols.
also drinking plenty of water and all that jazz. there's more about it, really, but thats just a basic guideline.

I don't want to knock the Atkin's diet. It did work for me (30 lbs in about 3 month) several years ago and I kept it off for 3 years or so...the problem I have is I started working at a desk job with sweets everywhere, not to mention divorce...not a good combination so the weight gradually went up over the last 6 years...I am calorie counting now and that seems to agree with me. I don't feel like I'm being deprived of anything either. I like you love meat and cheese but I eat it in moderation and what I am allowed during a basic day. I just choose lean meats.
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you to please make sure you take supplements for what your body may be being deprived of. The main reason that I went off the Atkin's diet is I had terrible mood swings and headaches....I didn't take supplements like the book said too. Best of luck to you!!!

I lost a ton of weight on Atkins.
And my cholesterol went through the roof, too. Prior to Atkins, my cholesterol was at about 160. 60 lbs lighter, and my cholesterol was at 220.
Oh, and I gained all the weight back that I lost on Atkins.
Never again.
ETA: I just wanted to add that, as we all should know by now, there is no easy way to lose weight. Our society is so gung ho on the latest fads, the quick-fix, the miracle cure; but the truth is that it's the tried and true methods that stick around. I am just as guilty as the next person as one who has fallen for a myriad of quick-fix or fads with regards to weight loss. This has been a lifelong struggle for me. I ate less than 1000 calories a day for a long time at the age of 12. I was 210 when I was a freshman in high school. I would hide food in my room. I purged in college (no binging, just purging!). I drank at least one bottle of ipecac a day for a while. I did Atkins.
We live in a society where a friend will automatically ask another friend "So what are you doing?" when she notices her friend has lost a few pounds. Weight watchers atkins hoodia trimspa hydroxycut south beach etc etc etc......People have started to ask me this question, and when I reply, "I'm eating healthy foods," I actually often get a quizzical look, like the idea that eating the foods we're supposed to eat is a new one.
For the first time in my life, I'm eating healthy foods. I'm paying attention to the nutritional value of what I'm putting into my body as much as if not more than the number next to that dreaded word "Calories." Am I counting my calories? Of course I am. But am I also trying my hardest to get a balance of foods that will meet my nutritional needs as a 5'6" 29-year-old woman into my body every day? Yes.
You can lose weight if you eat nothing but Oreos, provided the calories are right (hmmm...170 calories in 3 Golden Oreos ... so that's about 24/day for 1400 calories...). Is that a good diet to follow? Of course not! Eat the foods that are nutritious, eat the foods that are all around us. Get your body into a mode where it can USE the foods that you put into it. That way, when something comes along, like my mom's incredible homemade creme brulee on Easter, I can eat it, and STILL wake up a few ounces lighter in the morning.

Atkins works good but personally, I cant live without SUGAR!!! I really like Atkins protien shakes and always start my day with one because I find if I have protien in the morning I dont crave sugar as much. I still love meat and cheese but find counting calories works better for me because then I can have fruit and a little bread etc... all the things loaded with carbs that I love! Anyway, congrats on the weight loss... keep up the good work ?
Can I point out the obvious.. that if you actually eat as much as you want, you'll gain weight, unless you're somehow eating less than your body needs?
It still comes down to calories. :)
It still comes down to calories. :)
I've never understood how people poop on atkins. Where is your fiber?
The Atkins diet is a fad diet...just like all those other fad diets that work, but then stop working once you go back to your regular way of eating. You can't live on the Atkin's diet because of the simple issue of heart health. Sure it's great to starve your body of carbs so it'll start burning alternative forms of energy, but you're replacing them with less healthier options that are going to affect other parts of your body. This site helps you learn how to eat all types of nutrition (carbs, protien...ect) properly and with moderation. It teaches you how to eat properly for your lifestyle...not just until you lose the weight. You can't eat all the steak and eggs you want without thinking that one day it's going to catch up...maybe not around your waist line...but perhaps your heart.
I did Atkins a couple years ago and like you love meat, cheese, bacon, etc., but eventually I felt deprived like on any diet. I'd lost 25# but once I went off the diet all those pounds plus more came back in a hurry. I thought it was the greatest thing around for awhile, but once I really thought about all that grease and missing fruits and bread, I like the calorie count better. When you really think about it how good can a pound of bacon be to your system?
Well, I dont know about you but for me, it's Vegan all the way!
I lost 50kg and maintained my weight so far. You can go vegan easily without losing the taste. You just have to go creative as well.
Everyday, I make a new (never-made before) dish by just using my imagination, lots of veggies and spices. I dont know how I do it, but it just comes to me everytime I cook for myself. It's great. I feel healthy and I know my cholesterol levels are at the lowest possible.
