Do you love "the Biggest Loser" tv show?
I'd love to meet others to discuss the show. I live in Kirkland, WA so if you are in my area, we could watch it together. The program really motivates me. Yea I know it goes a little overboard sometimes with the drama and the over exercising but I still look forward to every Tuesday night.
I'd like to hear from you if you are also a TBL fanatic!
I'm not a regular watcher, but I caught part of last night's episode...I assume it was not a rerun, but don't know for sure.
I was really happy that they restricted the one woman from exercise for a week because of her medical issue. That's just smart imo and I'm also glad (sad for her though) that it brings to light that it isn't just diet and exercise there are potential risks and complications that need to be looked for.
What I did NOT like was the part where they slammed bananas, mangos, and pineapple for being too sugary...excuse me? Dump the non-fat frozen yogurt and have some fresh fruit for dessert!
Hi Miztery and SMWhipple!
I love Biggest Loser! I wish I could be on that show just so I can train with Bob and Jillian. This week was tough since they were getting used to having the restricted diets that were really prepared for them there in the house and being thrown this curve ball ... eating out for every meal!
And your right snwhipple, why slam bananas and mangos ... I thought fruit was good for you lol! I would have sliced and grilled pinapple any day of the week over non-fat frozen yogurt!
What are your thoughts on Tracy? I think that she should consider her options, she is there to get healthy however she can't work out which is a HUGH part of BL and getting healthy. In fact, she isn't healthy enough for working out period ... its possible she should take leave of BL and take care of herself.
As I mentioned, I'm a very casual watcher. Those were the only two items I noticed. Fruit is good for you. Pineapple in particular has bromides which act as a natural anti-inflammatory which is a useful property when introducing a body to hard exercise. Mangos are known for their concentration of vitamin C and antioxidents. Bananas are known for potassium and can help regulate your bowels. All good fruits imo.
I think it's good that Tracy is still part of the show as I believe that one of the weaknesses of TBL is that it fails to emphasize the potential health hazards to those embarking on a VLCD and massive exercise.
I like it but the frequency of commericals drives me crazy! I also don't like when they 'plug' products in the show (case in pont: when Gillian was touting the ziplock baggies that had the square bottoms. I was waiting to hear what made those bags so wonderful and when she said 'they stand up' I was thinking 'you've got to be kidding!")
All in all, it IS a good motivator and has good tips on nutrition & fitness.
I like the show, I know a lot of people here have a problem with the shows methods but I like to watch the transformation & the fight in the contestants. It motivates me to get off my azz & do something.
Like last year watching Ron complete that marathon. I use that visual imagine of him crossing the finish line when I start getting whiney about my time on the elliptical (we have a love hate relationship). Or the older gentleman that came back & beat everyone! I think if they can do it then there are no excuses for me, I’m younger, much healthier & have all the resource I need to get to goal.
I’m really hoping Dan wins this season, he has a great heart, and I would love to see his partner at a healthy weight & ultimately find happiness within.
Side note: I’m getting really tired of how the show continues to show the largest contest walking to weigh in so you can see just how fat she is. They show you every angle as if we didn’t get it the first 20 times.

That drives me crazy too! I give these contestants so much credit for placing themselves in the full public spotlight, and the transformations are unbelievable, BUT I feel like they could get the point across just as well without having to show every imperfection each contestant has. And then on final weigh- in week, they are fully clothed!
I absolutely love this show. These people are so motivating and even though i dont have hundreds of pounds to lose, id totally love to go on that show and have my a** kicked by those trainers to help me lose this weight faster.
as for the drama...it may be really rude of me but i just hate the crying every episode. yes, losing weight can be an emotional endeavor but it just goes overboard sometimes. thats why i DVR it. i watch the challenges and then watch the weigh ins.
Sometimes its on when I'm at the gym. HAha. Ultimate motivation. I just pretend Jillian is yelling at me. Lol.
No jk. But I would love to go there just to work out with Jillian. She's INSANE! I love it.
How motivated all those people seem and watching them push through their workouts pushes me to work harder.
hi Azule, right on about Ron. Was that not incredible? He was going to go all night to get to the finish! And the older guy that won! So inspirational! Now I am noticing the camera angles when they go to weigh in too, it's a little painful.
Ashley, I can hear Jillian yelling when I'm trying to do pushups, totally. I think she was out of line in how she raged against Tracy for eating the cupcakes, I don't know if you saw that episode. Look, Tracy is the one doing this, the trainer is a means to the end. Even the trainers themselves have said that they need to do what it takes to stay at the ranch. So Tracy ate 4 itty bitty cupcakes, with all the other things they are doing, like what is it, 5 hours a day working out?....I don't think those cupcakes are going to matter and she did win the challenge. She was able to send away those threatening males and she lost 11lbs that week.
I am on the same beat. Especially last season. Whenever I am running and want to quit inthe middle of a big hill, I hear jillian saying its all in your head and I picture Tara, the biggest inspiration ever, the girl who never gave in, and I find a way to push through it. Sorry I dont live near you, I am looking for my own biggest looser club closer to home, St louis mo.
I would love to know exactly how thier program on the ranch works. How much do they work out everyday. How much free time they have. And why nobody uses the pool! I ve been watchin for three seasons now and never seen anyone chillin in the pool.
I also cannot stand the commericals and the product placement within the show, Its like one giant advertisement every time I watch. Some of the advice they give though, really helps. And I guess if they can make money by saying "plan your meals with ziploc, insdead of, plan your meals with plastic bags" good for them. However, I think the ads get worse each season, this season, I have been doing more constructive things with my time durring the week and have mostly been watching the show online via recaps and updates, though I still catch a full episode here and there, I just love hearing the trainers yell at them.
I also feel bad for the really heavy contestants who have to 'show it all' but in the end, is it not more motivation for everyone? Both the contestant and the viewer?
Hey, I've never seen this show. I have a question about it though. How long does the show give these people to lose weight? Are they doing this for a whole TV season (which I think is half a year)?
And I bet they are fully clothed at the end because if you lose lots of weight really fast I think your skin would sag, and it wouldn't too motivating
But then I've never seen the show so what do I know...
I've got a question too.
Does anybody know if the show gives them a waiver from work or something. Or school for the kids on the family edition?
How awesome would that be to get like a 6 month break from work or school to go live in a house and workout all day?
I'm guessing their jobs wouldnt be too mad seeing as how if they got inshape they would be healthier overall and the company wouldnt have to pay for medical bills, etc, if they developed a condition while overweight.
I'm also a TBL junkie! LOVE that show! I find it so motivational; it's like "if they can do it, so can I". Jillian is the biggest motivator, I hear her in my head when I want junk food or to not work out, it's kind of funny. I'm currently reading her book "Winning by Losing", VERY helpful. Her work-out DVDs will kick your butt too.
I think the show is like 3 months on the ranch & 3 months at home. And I don’t think they give them any kind of waiver from work.
At the final weigh in they are dressed in biker shorts & a tank top. The saggy skinny could be a reason they aren’t wearing the sports bras.
I have one question: why they can loose weight so incredibly FAST, since the normal weight loss is 1 pound per week? If they're in starvation mode and exercising like a demon, how could they lose weight?
They are on restricted diets and work out all day everyday. The conestants were probably use to 3000 calories a day and are now down to under 2000 a day which makes a hugh difference. They still get proper nutrition through the help of professionals which staves off the starvation mode (I think ASK MARY answered the question on what starvation mode is and how to avoid it).
I am a faithful watcher of the show and for the most part love it but I am getting sick of how they build it up to vote the latest "villain" off the show and everyone swears up and down they are going to vote her off if they get the chance and then, lo and behold, they never do. I understand that the drama keeps us interested but I am sick of the hype. And just why is it the gal who has never once had a real workout with Jillian or Bob has consistently been a big pound loser losing over 5 pounds a week even on the dreaded second week? We all know it isn't that way in the real world.
I'm just saying...
Yeah I hate the way they edit too.
When we were watching the show my hubby said I guess Tracy’s is getting voted off, but I warned him about the editing & sure enough, Mo goes. If any of you guys watch Big Brother & then catch the live feeds you know what I mean. I was disappointed over the editing. Sometimes they would show stuff that happened a few weeks earlier or cut out crucial conversations.
As for the weight loss I think the show plays with the numbers, that thing they are jumping on to weigh themselves doesn’t work like any scale I have ever seen, the way the numbers go up & down & finally lands on the right number.
But did you notice that they didn’t show Tracy or Shay workout & Shay had a huge number like 16 lbs. So their off somewhere doing somehting.
Have you read this months magazine??
Opened up to a random page:
1,050 calories if you are less than 160
1,something calories if you are less than 200
1,200-300 calories if you are less than 250
I kinda freaked out. what in the world are they telling people??
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
