for the love of dew....and pizza

Quote  |  Reply

Two weeks ago i decided to get myself back in shape after a years long hiatus from not giving a crap about diet and exercising. It was going well,i had no cravings these past two weeks.I did Jillian Michael's ripped every single day,i even looked on as my family ate greasy chinese food, spaghetti, candy bars, and lasagna.LASAGNA PEOPLE!! I felt an immense amount of pride in myself for not giving in. I looked down at my plate of vegetables with no contempt in my heart because I knew i was making the healthy choice.and everything was going great until last night. My husband ordered pizza, which was fine,i had no urge to stray from my delicious salad.then I spotted it.....a frosty cold mountain dew...sitting in front of my low-cal salad dressing...it was staring at me,daring me to grab it and enjoy all of its carbonated goodness. I stared back.....I was like Clint Eastwood in that dirty hairy movie.I finally got a grip on myself and put the mountain dew behind the carton of milk(secretly i did this so i wouldn't see it again) and preceded to my salad dressing. I ate my salad thinking about the mountain dew the whole time.i started wondering that because of my hiding it if no one would drink it....what if it just sat there being hidden??what if my husband never found it and it just sat there calling to me.I decided to go put it back in plain view,so my hubby would see it.but when i grabbed it ...something came over me and I popped the top and drank it...no ...chugged it.When I was done with it i started rationalizing that since ive already screwed up my diet I could eat a piece of pizza (i don't even like pizza that much) and eat a piece I did.the guilt I felt was awful. Why did i do that?am i that weak?when it comes to soda i definitely am.so when my hubby ran to the fridge looking for his can of dew....I told him to sit down because we needed to have a talk.when we were done the conclusion had been made that there would be no more mountain dew in our home (he would switch to Pepsi, which i hate) and that he would start eating healthier with me.I am a pound heavier this morning, which i am taking as a sign that i should have more willpower...and not give in to the dew.or pizza for that matter. :p

i also made this into my first journal entry to keep myself in check

A journal is a wonderful thing to keep on your journey.  Don't be too hard on yourself, you are in the midst of a lot of changes.  That being said, be careful not to feel deprived.  Maybe every once in a while you could treat yourself to a diet mountain dew.  You may frown now, but you may change your mind later.

It's also fun coming up with low cal substitutes for some of our favorites, including pizza.  Have fun with this change, and congrats to you and your husband for being supportive Smile

I agree with Jill that diet mountain dew is a great idea - it tastes almost exactly like the regular. And don't beat yourself up - a "cheat meal" every two weeks will probably be good for you. You are obviously very motivated and staying on track, so good for you!

First let me commend your storytelling skills, I was quite amused : )

Second, you've been doing great, have a mountain dew every now and then. I'm not recommending every day, by any means, but I find when you have that urge that will just not go away, sometimes I would rather eat it, savor it, and move on. It doesn't work for everyone, some people only need one small thing to go completely off track, but I find that a bit of chocolate cake, in all it's unhealthy glory, once a month keeps me sane. And has little effect on my overall weight loss.

Ignore my poor grammar and comma splices : )
