Love my dog

Quote  |  Reply
I love walking my Airedale Terrier, Rocky.  We walk around our town - we love to window shop!  I have incorporated this into my daily routine and we usually walk 1 mile - 1.5 miles every day.  I would love to hear about other human-dog pairs and how and where you enjoy exercise!

I take my dog for a 10-15 minute run then about 5-10 min of walking afterward and I do this almost every night. My dog is a Border Collie, Rascal, so she has boundless energy and she easily keeps up.

I love walking my little cocker spaniel Elvis. He's got such boundless energy. I usually walk him for about 30 minutes when he's walked alone. I usually walk my other cocker spainel Chelsey with him too. But she's a little bit older than him so she's a 10 minute walk tops. It's a lot of fun to walk/run with your dog. They truly are great companions.

* sniff! *  I don't have a dog!!! Cry

My daughter bought me another 'walking partner'...

I love him, too...!

* sniff! ...he's sweet, too!...sniff! sniff! *

He's a miniature horse...I get laughed at for walking my 'dog'...! Wink

He's in my gallery! Laughing

Could he count in place of a dog????

Gotta' be more folks enjoying walking with their dogs! Laughing

2beittybitty-I LOVE that you walk a horse instead of a dog! That's so fantastic!

I don't have my own dog, but my mother and stepfather don't run, so I run with their dog. Magellan is a german shephard, akita mix. He's about 6, and loves to run! When I arrive at their house in my workout clothes, he gets really excited! He is recovering from an ACL surgery, and the running has done wonders for him. After only about 1 month of running, he was back to himself (after 3 months of not really recovering).
I have 3 dogs, 2 of which I run with.  One is a German Shorthair Pointer, one is a German Shorthair/English Pointer mix, and one is a Bassett Hound.  I run with the Pointers, and when I come out to the garage and put my running shoes on it gets really loud out there!  They love to run! (So do I!)

I don't run with the Bassett because he doesn't listen worth a hoot!  (I live in the country and run up and down gravel roads, so shock collars work with the Pointers) So he won't stay next to me, and anyone who's had a Bassett before knows how incredibly strong they are!  That combined with an amazingly low center of gravity makes their pulling power too much for me to run with on a leash!  So Bubba stays home, much to his chagrin...

Poor Bubba...! Love Bassetts, but they do look strong! Unfamiliar with the Pointers- are they hunters?

Less-see... Airedale Terrier, Rocky! That sounds like a cool name for a Terrier! I respect that breed a lot- they seem super intelligent Laughing

Border Collie- They're real working dogs! Very intelligent! I used to have a Shetland Collie- miniature for apartment size- named Bonnie+ a pedigreed long version. Rascel sounds like a really good name! Does he live up to it when you try to walk, lol? Do you like horses, too, with your name? Wink

Cocker Spaniel! They are Sooo cute! What a fun name! Chelsy probably gets good benefits, too, with what she is able to do. Energy...! Sometimes I feel tired just watching the energy of my daughters Lab! Tongue out

Thanks, energygirl- but you do get laughed at for walking a horse like a dog!

* no respect...! THAT's what you get...! Lots of Laughter! He can't help it! He's just a 'one-quarter-horse, 4-hoof-drive!' He likes walking, too!!!... *

Sherman Shepherd- great breed! Akita? New to me! What is it like? Glad you've helped him improve! Laughing

What an interesting mix! Hope we see more. Dogs are clearly good walking partners, in a lot of different kinds! Any body got pictures?

Thanks for starting this dyannem! Walking is sooo much more fun with good company!!! Laughing

My pit-bull, Handsome, walks 6 miles a day with me as long as it's above freezing and below 90 degrees.    He has so much energy he could probably walk for longer, but I'm not sure that I could =)
Okay, I just posted a pic of Magellan on my profile.

I'm not really clear on what an akita is exactly. I know that his tail (really bushy) is like an akita's, and I believe that they are large.
Thanks!!! Love that name! Beautiful coloring, sweet expression! Looks like he could be real intimidating if he wanted to- you should be safe walking with him to guard you! Surprised
I take my dog for a walk for about 15 min after my two hour workout at the gym .. i seem to have the most energy at that time... anyways he's so hyper all the time, hes an American Eskimo... and i love him sooo much ... he does the darndest things..lol:)
Ohhh...!!! Those are beautiful...! Picture...? Laughing
i run with my dog snuffles, he's a border collie/german shepard...we are actually running a race together in november... http://www.active.com/donate/ahanm2007/snuffl es you can find more info here.

I love running with my dog, it makes me and him happy and gives us time together to bond.  We recently adopted another puppy, this one is a girl great dane/dalmation mix, so we're going to start walking her to train her, but I don't know if she can keep up with me and snuffles, well snuffles at least is so fast and full of energy, I agree that collies are real working dogs!

fun thread!
I have two big boy dogs Rory and Tully.  Tully is a goldendoodle, he is hilarious, my fluffy bear and big at 90 pounds.  My Rory is an English Choc lab, my cuddle bear, ball horder and 100 pounds.    We walk 3 miles every day.  We either walk in my neighborhood, lots of hills, ugh, or go around the many man made lakes in the area.  They are great for me because no matter what they want their walk and I have to oblige!  Or else, they will follow me around all day and drive me nuts!  They also love to drive in the truck so it is an outing when we head for the lake.
Mollydominick, 6 miles??? Good for you!

I run my 1 year old yellow lab, named Viva, and my husband.  We run along a lakeside for about 2-3 miles everyday.  On our days off, like the weekends, we all enjoy swimming in the sea (mediterranean).

Some days Viva's need to exercise is the only thing that gets me out of the house!

I walk my pit bull mix Murphy twice a day, everyday (unless it's raining, he HATES the rain) there's a pic of him in my profile, he's got TONS of energy! it's great to have someone there motivating you to get outside, not sure i'd do much of that without him!
* bump for lunch time *   Share the Fun!!!
I have two dogs.  A border collie (Baxter) and a beagle /border collie mix(curtis).  When I am in training for a marathon I only run with the Baxter; he has been up to 18 miles on long runs.  The Curtis only runs with us when I run for fun because he has no discipline.  He just digs in and tries to sprint the entire time.  I can only get 3 miles out of him before I am too beat up from holding him back.  Each year we run in a "hounds and harriers" race (supports local dog shelter where we got Baxter from)and do pretty well (top 8 out of over 100 pairs).  I get a nudge each morning to get me out of bed to go for a run, even now when I am injured.
foxy -

I have to walk him 6 miles so he'll sleep all day when I go to work.  I found out the hard way he gets into things when he's up - like my shoes. =)
