anyone knows any good lovehandle/muffintop exercises?

23 Replies (last)

love handles are pockets of fat, and no exercise will preferentially reduce an area of fat.

muffin tops are typically due to ill-fitted pants - the best solution is finding better pants.

There's already several posts on this.

No, there are no exercises.

 im searching ehow.com

they r actually showing some videos there

i hope they work

I'm sure there are plenty of exercises that people will claim will preferentially burn love handle fat.

But the truth remains that there is no such thing as spot burning fat.

One recent thread on it.

In all honesty, clean eating is the best thing you can do. Usually bodyfat in the mid-section is due to poor eating habbits. After you re-work your nutrition, you should try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). It really does a good job at targeting bodyfat. Much more efficient than regular cardio. Also, lifting with free weights is one of the best things you can do to burn bodyfat.

exercies that show what? strengthening the obliques..back? Abdominal exercises will give you muscle but not reduce the fat there.

Best thing for love handles - and all fat on your body - is your diet.

YES there TOTALLY IS! Don't listen to these people that say there is no exercise for love handels!

First, stand with feet shoulder width appart. shoulders back. tall posture.

(hold 5 pound dumbell in each hand) -note: this exercise works without weights too, no worries. if you want to use weight but don't have dumbells, grab two cans of soup from your cupboard!

Keep your arms hanging to each side and then bend so that the weight drops as close to the knees as possible. You will be going from side to side, keeping your upper body as straight as possible. bend to right side, back to start position, and then down to left, then start position etc etc.

(note: if you are not using weights or soup cans, you will be touching the sides of your knees (while keeping arms to your side) with your finger tips)

Do 50 touches or "drop downs" on each side for a total of 100. this can be increased or decreased depending on how you feel.

TRUST ME IF YOU DO THIS EVERY DAY, AFTER THE 3-5th DAY YOU WILL WILL WILL FEEL AND SEE A DIFFERENCE ! The more you do it, the better!

Also: if you want to work out the "back fat" love-handel area, just do the same exercise but strive to touch BEHIND the knee as oppose to the side.

Try it, and let me know!

glowypop, she will feel a difference bc she is working the muscle. But, it will not nec. eliminate fat at desired area. You cannot spot reduce when it comes to losing fat. But, yes, weighted side bends are an awesome abdominal workout to strengthen and build abdominal muscle.

Yes. Why is this so difficult for people to accept?

Probably 'cause Shape, Self, fitness, Health, Cosmo and other fitness misinformation magazines have spent decades lying to people about exercise, health and fitness so there's an amazing amount of non-physiological nonsense embedded in the general folklore.

But.... why would Cosmo lie to us?

I think it's cause melkor doesn't hang out with us on the fitness forum anymore.

Cosmo doesn't lie. We are all supermodels and can wear those MASSIVE hats with huge feathers sticking out of them, shirt cut to the navel and...no pants....to walmart.

Aww, sorrry!

(And I totally hope you'll be featured in Health magazine with your epic advice ;)

Hey, don't slam it so much.

Being mentioned ANYWHERE is GREAT for business.  ;) [Trust me]

What's the saying...there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Yeah, It hink that was Valerie Waters' point in a conference panel last year on the business of being a trainer - Muscle&FictionHers has a 750K circulation, Shape 19.5 million.

Even if Shape is mostly filled with blatant lies to sell you on their own line of workout gear or designed to make the outright nonsense from their advertisers seem reasonable (no, really, this new Pilates DVD is completely different from the last one and will actually work unlike that last one you bought) you can't afford to ignore that circulation figure if you want to do business.

And you won't get published in Shape if you actually tell the unvarnished truth. 'Cause that would mean them owning up to misleading people since the very first issue which is probably bad for business. So if you actually want to be in Shape magazine, you'll have to be prepared to cater to how Shape magazine presents their workouts.

Valerie Waters' is an excellent trainer and the Valslide is a legitimate workout tool for intensifying bodyweight workouts (try doing a legs-elevated Valside pushup sometime; next best thing to a dumbbell bench press with half to 3/4 your bodyweight in dumbbells) but she's willing to compromise the presentation to get into the mainstream Shape/Self/Cosmo segment.

I dunno, I think it's a little disingenous to say that "Oh, you don't need resistance training" and then make people do Valside pushups and single-leg squats as if using bodyweight for resistance is somehow different...

As everyone has said, the actual fat will come off whereever your body decides for it to come off.  However, abdominal exercises, such as planks, sideplanks, and the side bends described above, will improve your underlying muscle tone and MAY (not definitely, but may) reduce the apparent size of your love handles.  Keep up the good work on the diet and work on improving all your muscles and you will look and feel better.

These two lines have made my morning, I will be laughing all the way to the gym!

Like others have said it almost sounds like this was quoted from Shape!

LoL You all are haters. to be honest, I never read this anywhere..one day I just tried it. and kept doing it. and seriously, i couldn't like grab hardly any fat on both my sides. it was tighter for sure, so yeah weight loss...maybe not...but like, the ability to tighten that area only after a few days is pretty remarkable..

..no laughing either at my soup comment, they are good alternatives to weights for real lol
