Back to the actual thread topic.... I did the 8minute Taebo workout daily and saw great result. I lost all my baby weight in just under a year by walking until I broke a sweat everyday. Distance and time didn't matter. Normally, it took about 45 minutes to break a good sweat. But, I considered it worthless without breaking a sweat. In addition to that doing Taebo, and eating healthy of course. The great thing about the eight minute workout is that I could rightfully commit to doing it every single day. It so doable. If you show constancy in doing it daily, than you're going to see results. I'd say in much less time than I since you don't have loads of baby weight to lose. Lol
My suggestions are adding a couple things in addition to the eight minute workout daily. That being walking until you break a good sweat. Eating healthy... and checking out Realage.com.
I owe everything to Billy Blanks and Dr.Oz. Billy Blanks is my fitness hero and I <3 Dr.Oz
If you want to talk more indepth send me an IM or email. =-P
Enchanting- that is exactly why I love the 8 min one, I have no excuse NOT to do it!
Thanks for all of your help!!! ;)Amy
You can do it! Don't become discouraged. Taebo works.
"Tae-Bo…Changing The World - One Body, One Life At A Time." If they sold shirts that said their quote I'd totally buy it.
Phft. No thank you is needed but you're more than welcome. =-P

Congrats on becoming a Volunteer Mod!!!
To the OP, I wouldn't worry too much... you look hot and i'm sure you're guy is happy as you should be as well. That said you can't spot reduce and running helps because it's great at burning fat so your love handles will eventually go. The key would be to strengthen your abs with muscle underneath with reverse crunches or crunches where you move your right elbow to your left knee and reverse that for the other elbow. Then eat a good diet with cardio to lose the fat on top. I've lost a ton of weight so far (almost 110lbs) but my love handles look like they will be last to go. You'll be ok, you are on the right track.
Archer- Thank you so much for your support! It is very nice to have!
Ornellanicole- Thank you for your comment and support as well!
I don't know why some have to be disrespectful? YOu all will never know how much I appreciate the postive support on here! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This is a great place for information and motivation and it has been very helpful to me!

An important reminder - Sit-ups/crunches will not remove any fat from the waistline; there is no such thing as spot reduction, because muscles do not use the fat that surrounds them as a source of energy. That's why firstly you need to have a flat belly, before thinking of core definition. The reason for which is because it won't be visible, even by toning otherwise.
The abdominal muscle groups are relatively small, and the number of calories expended during sit-ups is minimal. Walking, jogging, lifting weights, etc., will burn more calories than hundreds of sit-ups. That would be the source to lose the excess fat. Until you rid your body of the excess fat on your waist line, than your work won't be visible. It's the first step. Just getting to the starting point to view the toning of your abdomen is difficult for some.
Just strengthen the abs doesn't require extensive workouts as much as a short, constant routines that you can easily and quickly do after you finish normal workout and stretching. As little as 10 minutes a day, is all you'll need to develop stronger abdominals for better form and more dynamic posture/running ect. For runners, strong popstar abs aren't just for looks. Healthy, supportive abdominal muscles are essential for effective distance running. They help provide good running posture, a stable stride and protection from injuries. If you're already a runner, use that to trim the fat from your waist. If not, than choose another routine that will burn the excess fat at your waistline.
Once you do that you have the right idea with the variety of setups. That's going to give you the definition you seek. Here's a really good workout for your abdomen to give you that definition we all want. http://youtube.com/watch?v=W29u6Uwo3vI It's only an eight minute workout, but you could always do it a couple times throughout your day. Every other day. Possibly 2-3 times a week. (You should feel the burn, when doing this correctly. I promise.)
Even if you do have an excess layer of fat at the waistline, that doesn't mean you shouldn't continue toning. You can do exercises needed to burn fat, while still doing the other to tone.
You can always pm me if you like. The core is actually my focus point so I don't get tired of sharing/talking about it. =-P Also another tidbit abdomen muscles. When you work out muscles, you make little tears in them. If you do not let the tears heal, you will lose muscle and not build muscle. ( Just make yourself sore, possibly cause injury too.) If you give your body time to let the little tears heal, then your muscle mass gets bigger and you get stronger. That means working on your abdomen every other day, not every day. :-)
You should be doing some activity that burns fat. Since it's a fat burning exercise, that will make your abdomen muscles visible, giving you a flat belly by trimming away the love handles.. If all you do is cruches to tone your abdomen muscles than they will become more defined, but your overall body fat there at your waistline will keep them hidden.
It just takes time and constancy. A flat belly is very obtainable just don't become discouraged.

Theres this machine @ my gym that is targeted on your obliques, or "love handels". You like spin around with these weights, and you can switch the sides. I don't know if your gym has that, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them do.

What I've heard is that you can't really spot train, you can only try to lower your overall body fat percentage and hope for the best... HOWEVER, I have the same love-handles problem, and I've found that yoga and Pilates have toned up my back nicely! having muscle around your low back, low abs, hips, and butt can tighten everything up, and while it doesn't eliminate love handles entirely it does help!
I use Gaiam's "Yoga for Abs with Rodney Yee" DVD every morning, its about 23 min. and I find that helps because quite a lot of the positions work your back and hips simultaneously with your lower abs. In the afternoon/evening I use Pilates "10 Minute Solutions" DVD with Lara Hudson. Her "Pilates for Buns & Thighs" workout is 10 minutes and has a whole bunch of exercises that target the low back, hips, and glutes. The "Pilates Burn" segment has a few moves that target the same areas, and even the "Pilates for Abs" section targets the hips a little bit! I can't tell you the difference it has made for me... nothing else (not even running 6+ miles a day to burn fat!) has gotten rid of my ugly "Muffin-top" back fat! I really, really, really strongly suggest you try Pilates, but if you can't fit in time for a workout DVD in addition to going to the gym or whatever else you do to work out, you might try using a Roman Chair at your gym. A trainer can show you how to use it correctly, but basically its like doing an elevated sit up, but backwards, if that makes sense. It's hard to describe, but basically you hang over it with your thighs and ankles supported, and lift yourself up to arch your back (like a "seal" stretch, if you've heard of that) and it strengthens your lower back and glutes.
Hope that helps! Good Luck!

The best way to get rid of love handles is to buy pants in the next size up, and then, if necessary, have them tailored to fit your hips and thighs.
Love handles on someone of normal BMI are usually created when the waist band is too tight. Not everyone fits off-the-rack clothing dimensions - I'm one of them! With 25 inch waist, 26 inch at belly button, and 32 inch hips, and BMI of 20.6, wearing a size 0, you'd think I wouldn't have love handles, right?? But I do... as soon as I put on clothes!!!
If you can't afford tailoring, then do what I do: buy camisoles in a stretchy fabric that streamlines your look and squashes down the love handles so they disappear. :-)

if thats you in your photo id say you have nothing to worry about ;)
but take my advice! The best and most efficient way is to do a combo of weights and intense cardio and lowered calorie diet. how many times have you heard that cliche advice? i had the same problem for a while, but if you want to lose any love handles you have to work your ass off running.
What should my nutrient goals be?
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends these nutrient targets: Carbohydrate: 45 – 65% of total calories (average 50%... Read more
