I pretty much accepted that I was going to be stuck in a meaningless desk job the rest of my life.
And then, on a whim, I decided to come to Korea and started working as an elementary school English teacher. I'm only six months in, but I have to say, I love it. I absolutely LOVE it. I love the kids, I love the planning, I love the sense of fulfillment . . . who knew? I think I by chance stumbled upon my career path . . .
The most content hour of my day is in the morning- walking a half-hour to work through the rice paddies, coffee-in-hand, thinking about the day ahead. Amazing.
So . . . how about this: Who else LOVES their job? What is your job? Why do you love it?
Those of you who don't love your job, I sympathize. Keep looking and trekking ahead full force.
Peace out,
politica
I have my own business and I couldn't love it more. I can do my job in my sleep but it also can be very challenging so it's never boring, either. I make great money doing something I'd basically do for free: talking to people all day (I do recruiting consulting)
I work at a vet clinic as a Animal care Attendant/ Receptionist and learning to become a Vet Tech. I love it so much! it took a long time to get here (went to school for hairstyling and esthetics and finished at the top of my class, just to find out i hate people!) Helping animals every day gives me the sense that i am REALLY making a difference, especailly if i can convince an owner to do somthing good for thier pet. or when the owner has to make that last hard decision, im always there crying with them, afterwards they write me cards letting me know that it felt so good that they werent alone, and that makes me feel needed and usefull..... i wouldnt change my job for the world. animals are the best things in the whole universe.
wow that's really great you found your calling. i hateeee my job - boring desk job that means nothing to me. I am looking into grad programs for school counseling, i hope i find that to be my calling!
I do love my job and all the people here, but I really want to be home with my kids and caring for my house...
I have a part-time job doing what I LOVE: church ministry to the sick/hospitalized/homebound/grieving. I have about 200 grandmas and grandpas who adore me and I love them. I'd do anything for them... even work just part-time. I have to tutor in the evenings to make up some of the income loss but it's totally worth it.
I was at a church job before and lost it when the church had financial issues. I spent 6 months at a desk job as a call center representative. After 4 months I was burnt out, stressed, angry and hostile towards my superiors, severely depressed, and dealing with health issues. Quitting was the best thing I ever did for me even though there are financial struggles as a result. I know I did the right thing.
I love what I do and I'm good at it. I highly recommend doing what you can to do what you love. My husband sells computers during the day but runs a side business fixing them at night. Ideally, he'll get a tech job down the line but in the meantime he says this scratches that itch. If you don't find a way to fulfill your passion, you'll go crazy.
I love my job too. I think really enjoying what you do makes all the difference in the world. I could easily get a job that would double or triple my income but I will never do that because I love what I do. I'm a clinical research project manager - I do everything from draw and process blood samples to analyze, present and publish data from research studies. No day is ever the same and I get to work with a very interesting population. It's very intellectually stimulating and fun. I hope to be here for the rest of my life :)
i love my job. well, i did before i quit to go to grad school, and i fully intend to love my next job ;)

I love being a Stay-Home Wife! (That's my "job!")
MOLLY
I love my job. I work at a major investment firm. The past ten days or so have been beyond stressful and I think I would have torn my hair out by now if I didn't love my job.
I love the kids I teach for the most part and I find the job to be really easy. However, this is not my dream job. I will, hopefully, have that after I finish grad school.
I work for a Real Estate company and I absolutely adore my job. I enjoy the duties and the people I work with.
As far as the actual job goes, my boss is the furthest thing from a micro-manager possible. In fact, we have to remind HER to stay on task and complete projects.
The workweek? Mondays are slow, Tue we have have "team meetings" where a vendor brings breakfast, Wednesdays don't start until after 10, Thursdays are trainings and every Friday is Happy Hour...except the first Friday of the month...that's Movie Day!
The people? My associate Broker plays in band...a good band...and we are frequently invited to crash posh parties...million dollar weddings, charity events at the Hard Rock Cafe ect and all we say is “yea…I’m with the band…”
Last week I told my boss I had to "be late". I didn't want to lie and I didn't want to disclose where I was and all she said was "okay!"
About Friday being Happy Hour, Friday is OFFICIAL Happy Hour…but any day after 3 is really fair game. When I first started I did NOT feel comfortable, opening the safe, to get my broker’s office key, to get MORE rum but everyone insisted she wouldn’t mind.
Once a month we have a "Social" event that calls for Party City, the Margarita Machine and dressing up of some kind! I seriously thank God for this job on a daily basis – oh yea and I live FIVE minutes away from the office!
I love my job too - work in the financial industry and as poster above said it has been more than stressful lately - sure hope the markets pick up and I can start loving it again! ;)
i work with foster families and kids in foster care...... as tough as my job can be i LOVE it..... love working with the kids, the foster parent and my co-workers are great too.... most of all my boss is awsome!!!! i love the agency i work for.... everyone including the CEO..... we are one big extended family here at AYS!!!
mmm...my current job sucks. It's easy, but unfulfilling. I'm overqualified and underpaid. Ahh research. Luckily it ends in one week. At that time, I'll be starting another job that I'm overqualified for, but it's temporary, pays a little better than right now, and I can quit the minute I get a real job. I told them I would, they're okay with it. And today and tomorrow I have interviews for jobs I think I'll like. So..maybe things are looking up? It's too early to tell.
I LOVE my job... I'm a wedding/event planner and I just opened up my own wedding planning company at the end of last year.... I used to work for another wedding planning company until about 8 months ago and although I loved working with the couples I disliked the owner of the company. I was stressed out all the time, gained so much weight, and my relationship was suffering because I was very, very unhappy. So I made the decision to go independent and it was the best decision ever!
What do I love about it? I get to share in the joy that getting married brings to couples - young, old, straight, gay - , I love designing and creating a celebration that reflects who the couple is and what they like.. for me, it's not about spending thousands of dollars, it's about making it memorable.. I also love meeting the couple and really getting to know them ~ so many of them have become good friends of mine and I wouldn't trade that for anything.
I previously worked as an administrative assistant, catering sales, corporate planner (did not enjoy that), elementary and preschool ESL teacher..
I'm an analyst.
I love it because I get lots of time off from it.
Oh wait... :D
Love all my jobs -- I'm a full time documentary/textual editor (we edit historical documents -- i.e., transcribe them as originally written, annotate, etc.), a part time US history instructor at a community college, and I do independent research for scholars on the side. Next task: learn to index books so I can do that as well!
I love my job! I am a preschool teacher working within an elementary school. Last year I was a Special Needs teacher for grades K, 1, 2 and although I loved my students, I couldn't handle all the paperwork involved, plus some of the attitudes of the other teachers. This year I am in a different building and I really enjoy my coworkers and kiddos! Kids say the darndest things (wasn't there a TV show like that???), plus I get my summers OFF & PAID. ![]()
It was a disaster at the hospital yesterday. :\
