I Love Lucy Birthday

Hi guys,

I need some help. I want to throw my sister in law a 30th suprise bday party and she LOVES i love lucy. But there are no party supplies out there for I love lucy.  I was hoping to at least find Balloons that was i can match everything around the balloons. and then the cake would be i love lucy too.

my question is: do you guys know where I could find anything party related for I love lucy??? i dont really wanna buy collectibles and just put them around the house and make it look like its party related cus that would be expensive.

Make your own stuff.  After looking at a few online stores here are my ideas.

You could use card stock and (and possibly contact paper so it would be water proof) to make Lucy drink coasters.  You could get cheapo plain dish towels or t-shirts and do iron on transfers with Lucy images.  Same thing but get an old white sheet and use the iron on transfer to make a table cloth.  You can stencil Lucy onto balloons.  Make a stencil of a picture like this one, and blow up balloons and sponge paint them on it.  You can buy a cheap set of drinking glasses at the dollar store and paint the I Love Lucy heart on them (or whatever you're capable of painting).  You can find the right kind of paint at an arts and craft store. 

You can also get creative with the food and drinks to stay with the Lucy theme. Drinks (alcoholic or nonalcoholic) could be at a "Vitameatavegemin" (sp?) stand, and you could have a "conveyor belt" (maybe tissue paper?) of chocolates or cupcakes or something. I'm sure you'd want to stick to the more famous episodes so that people got the joke, but this could be a lot of fun!

Better yet:  Fill a kiddie pool with grapes and have at it.

A lot of the collectibles are done in pink with black polka dots like this.  So you could have pink and black streamers and use those colors for the main decorations and then use jewelsmcblah's ideas for coasters / balloons... you said your cake will be I love Lucy and I LOVE the idea of naming the drinks and activites after classic episodes. 

If you have a little extra cash you could buy some I Love Lucy key chains and have them scattered on the table by the cake for decoration... maybe some Ricky Ricardo cigars as well.

Great ideas, all. Suggest Cuban food. Can't love Lucy without loving Ricky as well. :)

Okay. Here's my suggestion it's a little out there but...

Cuban Style: Remake the Tropicana Club that Ricky works at in your home. Dress up like different characters from the show.That way the key characters are in play at the party. Have Cuban music, food, ect, and setup the karaoke as the stage area.

Throw in red Lucy wig/outfit for your sister and let the good times begin! I'd even suggest a little role play.. having Ricky sing to her and tell her " Tonight you're the star of the show! You can sing anything you want! " <- Said with accent of course. This amounts to letting her be the star since it's her birthday and favorite character. Plus, it's what Lucy always dreamt of being! ( aka: your sisterinlaw as Lucy)

Lol, Lovnhorses. Okay. :) That's two votes for this idea anyway! It's a little out there though so maybe not for shy people. Some people wouldn't be inclined to participate as such.

I like the polka dot idea, and see if you can find a Lucy life size cardboard cut-cut online.  That way, people would be able to figure out the theme.  

Yeah, I was going to suggest little chocolates like the conveyor belt, or even serve them in a big chef's hat, like the ones in which they hid all the candy.

Or you could serve arroz con pollo and 7-layer chocolate cake, like the meal Ricky and Fred make while Lucy and Ethel are at the chocolate factory.

And you could always do Lucy-themed games: trivia like what's Ethel's hometown, what's Lucy's real hair color, etc. or charades, trying to act out famous Lucy episodes: candy factory, vitameatavegemin, the aliens, etc.

you should check out this store....some of the stuff is expensive but alot of it is low cost and would make great party favors, presents for you sil, or help with ideas for decorations!
