I've always thought pigs were the cutest, funniest little animals, but having just read a wonderful article that said they were smarter than 3-year-old humans, I love them all the more. It's so amazing how people can take a creature so smart, sensitive, and cute as the pig and turn it into food just because it has no voice.

Pigs are horribly slaughtered and mistreated every day. I can't believe I ever ate meat because it's so wrong. Nothing tastes good enough to justify the horrible murder of one of God's creatures.

Sorry-- I just had to vent!!!

I am with you on that one. Poor little piggies. the way they slaughter them.. I just can't even think about it.
I turned vegetarian when I had my first baby. I realised that there was no way that I could feed my baby on other animals babies.
My friend raised a runt of the littler pig that was on its way to slaughter. The little piggy grew up to be a 600 pound big piggy, who thinks its a dog!!! LOL It grew up with 3 dogs and the pig even tries to bark...LOL its adorable! Her name is Nelie ;-)
@ marconi685:

What you are writing is blasphemie!
Pigs are NOT God's creatures. Only human beings are God's creatures.

Don't misunderstand me, I am also against the killing of animals and I respect vegetarians a lot.

How can you believe PIGS would be smarter than 3 year old human beings?

I have a question, marconi685:
Do you know when people call other people "You pig!"?

jim-- have you actually read genesis? It says that God created all animals-- and says nothing about creating them for human use.

Granted, humans are in God's image, but who do you think created pigs? Satan??

Wow.

I can't believe you came into a vegetarian forum just to argue with someone. She wasn't hurting you with her opinion on pigs.

They are actually very smart creatures, they are often compared to dogs with their intelligences, even surpassing a dogs intelligence.

First- I don't really know what I believe about God but since you obviously use that as the basis for your thoughts than I will go with that, if it really did happen as Genesis says than pigs are a creation of God, such as all animals are.

I am not sure if Pigs are smarter than 3 y/o humans- I do know that they are intelligent creatures. I know that 3y/o can learn up to 9 new words a day & they have a huge capacity for growth- By the time humans are 5 90% of their brain is developed.

ETA: Also- It is a common misconception that pigs are dirty even though they are not- that is why the phrase "you pig" was started.
Tink-- the article is on the peta website. all the info i said was backed up by scientists who have conducted extensive tests. Check it out-- it's really cool, and they have similar articles about the cognitive abilities of cows, chickens, etc.
We are all animals, we are just human animals. Thinking that we have the monopoly on intelligence is just narrow minded and ignorant. To suggest someone is stupid  because they have an opinion that pigs  are smart is just plain rude.

Hey folks - I just wanted to jump in here and remind everyone that the original post was a vent. Perhaps we can take a moment to remember that when someone vents, they're sharing something that has touched them very deeply.

While it's clear that many people share some strong opinions about the original topic, it's good to keep in mind the guidelines and the mission Lollipopfairy posted for us.
@ cinnamint:

1.) Your suggestion is wrong. And it's not my mistake that you draw a false conclusion.

2.) You can call yourself "human animal". But don't claim all human beings would be "human animals" as I am a human being and I don't want to be called "human animal". This is rude and it hurts my feelings as a human being.

@ cmilington:
Being vegetarian does not mean being more sensitive than non-vegetarians. I know lots of non-vegetarians who care more about animals than vegetarians.

I just wanted to apologize to everyone. I did not intend to make so many people upset! I just wanted to share info that I had recently learned that had, in the words of cmillington, touched me very deeply". I am saddened that an innocent post on my part has turned into such a disagreement.
jim, i'm a non-vegetarian who cares about animals... and guess what, we ARE animals. whether you want to admit it or not. we're a part of the 'animal' kingdom (literally) and as far as i'm concerned, not that i expect many people to agree with me, we all evolved from the same place.

just because cinnamint's religious views don't seem to match up with yours there's no need to get angry and that doesn't mean she's 'wrong.'

marconi... i don't think there's any need to apologise :) i don't agree with some parts of your original post but it's your opinion and everyone is entitled to one. it's not your fault somebody reacted to it in a completely unnecessary way.
My dear marconi685,

I accept your apology.

I may make the suggestion to call all of us 'students of life'. This description is better because it suggests that we all make mistakes and that we all have to learn every single day.

I don't think you need to apologize either.

You did nothing wrong, and your post was innocent.

The reason I reported it for a violation was because of the "bacon is good" or whatever that person said.. That is just rude to come into a vegetarian thread and start talking about eating animals.

Thanks for sharing with us Marconi.
I also, need to vent on this topic.

I am taking a bio class and the teacher said that we would be dissecting fetal pigs. It is against my moral beliefs to do such a thing, so I decided to ask the teacher if I could do the online dissection. However, he thought I just wanted to get out of the work! I ended up getting my parents, the principal, my school counselor, and the district involved.

I felt so much pressure from the school, I told the teacher I would try to but aside my beliefs, for science. So, I participated on day 1, which was just looking at the external anatomy of the pig. However, I was so traumatized I became anxious and could not sleep or eat, and now whenever I see meat I get sick. So, the first thing I did the next morning was confront my teacher, and I told him that I could not do it.

I am really pissed off about this. I felt ridiculed for my beliefs and objections, because the teacher said some pretty hurtful things. I do not see why people have to question every single thing a person believes. Why can't people respect one another?

Because of my experience, I am writing letters to my congress men to inform him that my state needs laws that allow students to back out of dissections.

ps. i love pigs too, look at my picture
That is just horrible-

I am glad that you are able to stand up for yourself and to make a difference.

I wouldn't be surprised if your local legislature didn't care, but if you try to bring it to your local news it might make a bigger impact ;)

Imagine the headlines "Teacher forces dissection of pig fetus  traumatizing  a young girl despite her earnest pleas".. I'm sure that would draw some attention to your cause. :)

People really need to respect others opinions..
@ anzly:

I am also against dissecting fetal animals, actually against biotechnology in general. I am also against zoos as I rather perfer animals living in freedom.

However, I cannot understand how you could put so much pressure on your teacher even though he only made his job. Now he has become the target of a general attack. You have used this incident with your teacher to stand up and to start a general fight against dissecting fetal pigs. Thereby you did not care whether your teacher could be attacked by many militant animal protectors.

@ united2gether:
A link would have been sufficient. There is no need for overreaction. We don't want a feeling of fear here.
