love to run

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I love to run.  I weighed a lot about a year ago and it made running difficult so I decided to lose weight.  I have lost about 30 lbs so far and it is getting easier.  I think if I can lose about 20 more lbs., I'll be able to run a lot better so I'm working on it, slowly.  I don't care how long it takes as long as I keep improving on my running.  Right now it's really hot too but I'm still able to keep going with my running although I keep having to find ways to keep the sweat out of my eyes (it burns).  Now I have to wear a headband and sun visor and use sunscreen that doesn't melt into my eyes.  Anyobdy have any suggestions on any better way to keep the sweat from being a problem?  How about good sunscreens?  I'm in the San Fernando Valley, L.A. and it gets crazy hot for running but I'm managing.  I think once August is over, I will be loving it.  I'm 50 yrs old and don't think that I'm old at all.  Sometimes I don't get why people want to say or think that 50's too old for a lot of things.  I still feel like I'm 20 most of the time and age just made me smarter.  Well, I could go on, but this is pretty long already, I just wanted to make an introduction before I post anything anywhere else, so hi, and thanks for having this great place to come for motivation, information, and laughs.

Welcome Huggo.  You may get a better response if you post this question in the fitness forum.  There are a lot of crazy runners like us and I have gotten quite a bit of good information and feedback there.

I always run with a hat.  I'm from SoCal too so I know how hot it can get.  I usually do my running early morning or on the treadmill in the late afternoon.  I prefer running outside, but don't mind the treadmill so much.

Good luck to you and keep on running...

Another runner here.  I ALWAYS wear a hat, Nike shades, Neutrogena 70 SPF sunblock, and UPF 50 shirts.  I am scared witless of skin cancer, but love to run on the street instead of on the treadmill, so I take every precaution I can short of night running.  I also carry a small water bottle on really hot days.  it seems unwieldy at first, but you get used to it.  Oh, and I don't think I can run anymore without my ipod.  :-)

Welcome!

Thanks tciherr and 062121.  It's nice to meet some other people who are "crazy" like me.  I went for a long jog yesterday and oddly enough it wasn't too hot, (yeah).

I will bring up the question about sweating solutions in the fitness forum.  I have some other questions I want to ask runners/joggers/exercisers as well.  So thank you for pointing me in the right direction for that type of question.

062121, interesting name.  I tried the neutrogena 70 and it worked ok.  I have to be real careful though because I have some melasma and am using Bioderma 100 sunscreen and I put zinc from a I think it's called Solar Sense over that.  I still notice darkening of the areas though.  I have to run during the day though.  I just get the urge to go then.  I tried going at night but I guess it's hard to make that a habit.  I can't even make myself use a treadmill. I don't know how you can stand it.  I keep wishing time would pass when I get on one and each minute just drags by soooo slowly.  I do take a water bottle.  I hated it too (at first), now it feels weird going without it.  I feel like I'm off balance now when I don't carry it.  I drink a G2 before I go too.  It really helps me not to get as thirsty (the light purple one tastes yummy too).  IPOD yes of course, music keeps me moving big time.  Listening to myself breathing is kinda boring or sometimes hypnotic.
