Love this site... but I feel like the only liberal. True?
I love this site (as I've said above.) The community is wonderful, helpful, concerned, and generally just great, and I find the tools are super helpful. I've learned so much about eating right and being healthy here.
But.. I feel a bit like the only left-leaning cc'er. My suspicions began when, in a thread where an unexpectedly pregnant cc'er was asking the do-I-or-do-I-not have an abortion question, and then all of the these folks chimed in with how wrong it is, and just how much she will regret it forever. I was aghast that all these folks who have always been so supportive on other topics could be so judgemental on another. Then came someone who was terrified to mention that she had gained weight after quitting drugs - again, someone who sensed that the community here would not be receptive to someone who had used cocaine, and was upset about the resulting weight gain that is common (and depressing) among recovering addicts. Then today I see this huge thread about how it's super great that McCain picked a very young, very socially conservative running mate, because wouldn't it be awesome if she ended up as prez? Yes, I would love it if another socially conservative candidate were elected to the highest office in the land. It's gone so well these past eight years (please note the sarcasm.)
So, anyways, just a rant. Feeling a little bleak here.
EDIT: I'm getting some feedback about being judgemental.. that was not my intention. The reason I rarely speak up about my political leanings is because I hate the bitter division, and senseless arguing that seems to ensue. I had just been feeling that any sort of leftie-ness 'round these parts got flamed real fast, and felt sad that the same sorts of division often occurs among the wonderful cc community. I can't say that I've ever encountered a cc'er I didn't like. You guys are all great! Just wanted to remind us all to be open minded - to both sides of the fence ![]()
you are totally not the only liberal.... i am a pro-choice, obama supporting, feminist, black activist social worker..... i am the furthest from any conservitive ideals!!! dont feel alone!!! we are out here!!!
I've been accused of leaning so far to the left that the post fell down.
Oh and I hate the thought of creationism being taught in public schools and wish all fundies were exiled to their own island of damnation paradise.
maybe the only "vocal" liberal. Either position can post, just seems the majority of posting is done by conservatives.
I guess I have difficulty in your "rant". . . why rant? Because conservatives have and exercise the right to voice an opinion when asked OR because their opinion differs from yours?
--that sounds harsh, I don't mean it to be but I couldn't word it so it sounded "softer".
Sure, things have been bad but does that mean with EITHER a R or D in office it's going to change overnight?
I actually think there are more liberals than not here (but then again I don't read threads with titles that indicate they may be about something that might annoy me!)
Maybe it's because I don't go into those posts all that often, but I think if you're on here a lot you will get a good dose of both sides.
ewww liberals...
Eww conservatives...
Make up your own minds!

It's interesting how the time you're on the forums can make you feel so different! I have always thought the majority of this site was liberal.
I was thinking the same thing. But then, maybe I'm just naturally drawn to the threads where all the liberals are!
They haven't happened for a while, but drop in on a good give-n-take religious thread sometime - us libs are all over the place!
I've seen tons of liberal posts. The libs don't stay away from a conservative post either, even when asked.
I would think the contrary. Why does it matter anyway? This isn't a political forum, is it? If someone is liberal and another is conservative, what does it really matter in the end? True though, it's annoying if a forum is leaning more towards a certain party. Especially a calorie count forum. haha
I know what you mean--I noticed that myself and was starting to wonder. Maybe people who are more conservative are also more active on the boards... When I started looking at people's profiles, I saw that "god", "church" and other similar terms popping up a lot... not that being religious means that you lean any which way politically.
Anyway--you're not alone. I'm pretty darn liberal--you've got to be when you work in public health!
You're certainly not the only left-leaner around here. If you search in the forums for topics about religion or politics, or women's issues, I think you'd find some fairly well debated arguments, from both the left and the right. Actually sometimes they get pretty intense. I also tend to avoid right-wing heavy threads.

For most topics, it really doesn't. Conservative / liberal really doesn't come into play when discussing exercise routines, recipes, or calorie deficits. But when a political or religious one comes up, yeah, the exchanges get interesting.
In my several months here I have gotten the impression that liberals out weight conservatives on the forums.
