Too Low Blood Pressure???
How low is considered too low for blood pressure? I've been told that mine is too low (It was 90/50 sitting and 85/45 standing). Is this accurate? I had heard that anything over 120/80 is high, but I dont know how much below that one should go.
It would be wisest to discuss it with your doctor. He knows you and is far more qualified to examine you and give an educated opinion than anyone here.
Of course I'll give my opinion anyway. When my blood pressure was that low, my doctor told me that wasn't abnormal for a small, young, athletic female and that as long as I wasn't dizzy and felt fine I shouldn't worry about it.
My mother's blood pressure medication got her bp down to 115/70, but she got dizzy when she stood up, felt light headed all the time, etc. The doc reduced her medication and told her she was apparently someone who needed a slightly higher bp to be healthy. So it may be a little individual.
In general if you are not dizzy and do not have hampered funtion your BP would be considered ok. But as kodischild said check with your Dr. to be sure.
I do have an ED, so when I was really underwieght, it was around 70/30. I think that my doc just wants it higher to be on the safe side.
Original Post by bobev:I work at a clinic and that's the guideline we go by. There really isn't a 'too low' if you're not having any negative symptoms. 90/50 really isn't that uncommonIn general if you are not dizzy and do not have hampered funtion your BP would be considered ok. But as kodischild said check with your Dr. to be sure.
I have about that same blood pressure most of the time also. I don't worry about it because my mom also has really low blood pressure until she gained weight. So I think mine is being underweight and dealing with anorexia. But if it is affecting your daily life or your getting dizzy I would talk to your doctor.
If you feel dizzy or pass out, then it's too low. You need to get to the bottom of the reason why it's so low. For that you need to be seen by a doctor. There are many reasons for low blood pressure.
Mine is always low because there's something very wrong with my heart. Some other causes are hunger, dehydration, exhaustion, and illness. Only the doctor can tell you.
90-something over 50-something is about average in societies where there's very low sodium consumption and no obesity (which usually also means lots of physical activity), and I know some very healthy people with BPs around there, so as others have said, unless you're having symptoms, that level of BP in and of itself is nothing to worry about. But if your doctor is worried about it because of your ED, then you should just make sure you're getting enough nutrients. But I'm sure you know that!
