low cal ranch recipe and more
I read on here that someone puts hot sauce in fat free cottage cheese to dip vegetables in and it gave me an idea. I could mix hidden valley ranch fat free dip powder mix with 16oz fat free cottage cheese and mix it in a blender until it is smooth as sour cream. It turned out awesome and according to my calculations it only had 8.75 calories per tablespoon.
I really want to run with this fat free cottage cheese thing. I could water the dip down and make a really low calorie ranch dressing or I could make different dips or even a low cal creamy Italian dressing. I?m even going blend fat free cottage cheese to make a sour cream substitute.
There is a warning though. This stuff was so good that my wife and I ate all of it in a weekend. We dipped carrots, celery, cucumbers and even chicken in it. This stuff is high in sodium so I ended up gaining 3 lbs of water that weekend. So I?m going to save it for special occasions from now on.
What do you think?

That sounds delicious! What a great idea.
By the way, I forgot to say that I lost those 3 lbs and some the next couple days.
Great tip. I usually use nonfat plain yogurt with a little nonfat milk to get a tangy buttermilk sort of flavor, but I can imagine the cottage cheese would have a nice flavor to it.
You should go the full homemade route and just use your own spice blend, sans the sodium. Just do equal parts thyme, parsley, dill, onion powder and garlic powder. Add a little real garlic instead if you like it stronger. Then just adjust the robustness with some cracked black pepper, cider vinegar, and worcestershire (there's the sodium, but you only need a couple of drops)
It's great stuff!
