Low calorie alcoholic beverage?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi guys! Just a quick question.

I just turned eighteen, and am planning to go out with friends for a drink. I'd rather not go at all - but it is my eighteenth. I was thinking of ordering a white wine spritzer. Would that be the wisest [and by that I mean lowest-calorie!] choice? Or is there something else that I should get instead?

Any imput on this would be great!

All I know is that diet coke and vodka is a zero.

I've tried it before, and it makes me want to puke.

Although I don't necessarily like the taste of alcohol anyway.

Any hard liquor with diet coke is essentially a zero.  Theoretically vodka in orange juice would just mean you get what's in the orange juice minus any hydration benefits.

Vodka has calories in it--about 60 calories in an ounce.  All alcohol has calories in it.

Gin or vodka is probably your best choice.  Stay away from rum (I think the way it's distilled makes it "worse" for you).  Some light beers are good (Michelob Light comes to mind).  I'm a bourbon girl myself, but I didn't start out that way. Laughing

That is not true.  There are like 70 calories PER OUNCE of vodka.  don't ruin a perfectly good glass of wine by turning it into a spritzer; have a glass of white wine and follow it with two glasses of water and EAT BEFORE YOU GO OUT - so you don't have to stave off any alcohol fueled cravings...

First off, Happy Birthday!

Rum and Diet Coke (0 cals for the coke, 60-70 for the rum)

Sugar Free Red Bull and Vodka (10 cals. for the red bull, 60-70 per oz of vodka): This is my drink of choice - lots of bang for your buck.

Light beer (Miller Lite is 96 cals for a 12 oz. bottle)

Wine is ok, but can add up fast - a small glass is about 125 calories.

Sounds like you are outside the US, so I'm not sure what all is available to you, but good luck!
A shot of vodka is 100 calories.

A smaller glass of wine (3.5 oz) is about 85, which means a wine spritzer (wine and seltzer) would be about the same.

Pick something you'll sip at.  I tend to drink beer and wine a little slower than cocktails, so I order those.

i like vodka & soda.

if you're drinking in a restaurant or bar, remember that a shot is 1.5 oz, so a little over 90 calories.  that's not counting mix.

Wait wait wait... I have no idea what du57y means... about a zero. Alcohol has calories, just like carbs, protein, and fats do. (carb = 5, protein = 5, fat = 9, alcohol = 7, all in calories per gram)

One shot of hard alcohol is about 60-70 calories.  I personally like diet coke and spiced rum. I think that's delicious.

Light Beer is usually around 90-110 calories.

martinis are pure alcohol, although they are about 3-4 ounces, so around 250 calories... but basically equivalent to 3-4 drinks... they take quite a while to drink.

Another of my personal favorites is a mike's hard light lemonade

My personal favourite - Guinness Stout - has around 170 per pint, but I can sip one all evening.  Not everyone likes dark beer / stout, though.

I think what she meant by a zero was that it didn't taste good to her.....I think.

Thanks everyone for your imput!

Despite pressure from my friends, I'm only planning to have one drink tonight. I dislike drinking my calories; however I've saved 190 cals for this evening.

We're just going to a restaurant/lounge - which is why I thought wine or a wine spritzer might be good, as I can sip it.

Vodka and diet soda or lime juice!  thats what IIIIIII got~!

Beck's Premier Light has 64 calories per 12oz bottle.

i sometimes incorporate wine or a spritzer to my diet. also i feel that it is healthier than have a vodka and some chemical-ladden soda:)

Let me clear things up. A UK shot is 1oz, and a US shot is 1.5oz. That's where the math is getting mixed up. An average UK shot is 70 calories for hard alcohol (80 proof), and the average US shot is 100 calories.

Mix it with anything diet, and you're good to go. :) I have a thing for captain morgan and diet dr pepper. When going out, it's strictly rum and diet coke.

ditto the rum and diet Coke suggestions...but killerqueen, what is the problem you see with rum? curious...

coconut rum and diet coke!!! my FAVORITE.

The 1 vs. 1.5 ounce thing, I don't think it has anything to do with UK v. US. In fact, I'm just a wee bit offended that automatically, since we're the US, we get the bigger serving size... :-/

Anyway, I'll stop being annoyed and just get on with my post ;-)

1 ounce is the standard shot anywhere. Period.

1.5 ounces is how much they tend to give you in an actual bar.

Its like an 8 oz soda serving size, vs. a 20 oz bottle of soda

Vodka is not 0 calories, but it's the only alcohol worth drinking!
the way i see it, you should just go out and have a good time, and excersize hard tomorrow. it's not often you drink alcohol, it's very rare, so why not just enjoy life?

I live in Canada and we definately don't get 1.5 oz booze in our drinks in the bar.  At bars the standard is for 1 oz.  Usually they are skimping and you get less than 1 oz, especially during happy hour.
