Low-Calorie Pancake Mix???

Quote  |  Reply

Hi!  I really love pancakes and have been searching in the stores for a nice low-cal boxed mix, but to no avail.  I made some pancakes the other day, but it ended up being around 335 calories for it all, which is a bit more than I like to have for breakfast.  I have the Hungry Jack Buttermilk (just add water) one that is 150 calories for 1/3 cup.  I had to do 2/3 cup, because 1/3 just isn't very much (I like a nice stack of pancakes) and then I top them with the sugar free syrup for about 35 calories.  I really wish I could find something lower...  I've looked at the whole wheat ones, but you have to add in the eggs and such.

Anyone know of somewhere I can buy a low-cal mix??  Thanks!!  =)

Apparently Fiber One has made a pancake mix.  It's called Fiber One Complete Pancake Mix and a half-cup of the mix (which should make three pancakes) has 180 calories, 3.5 grams of fat, 36 grams of carbohydrates, 5 grams of fibre, and 6 grams of protein.  I haven't tried it though.

Thanks!  I love Fiber One products... I haven't seen it in any of the stores yet.  Any idea of where I can buy some?  I also didn't see it on their website...

Here is a whole article type thing on pancakes.  Hopefully somethin in there will work for ya =)

Check out the protein pancakes in the recipes on this site.  4 egg whites, a banana and 1/2 cup quick cooking oats, throw it all in the food processor or blender and it makes AWESOME pancakes.  They suggest two servings at 139 cal each, but even if you have the whole thing its still under 300.  They even bubble like normal pancakes when they're ready to flip.

I tried out the protein pancakes with the banana this morning... not the worst I've had, but not that great IMO either.  For the whole recipe I used it ended up being over 400 calories - yikes!  Don't think I'll be making those again.  It must have been a bit different than the one suggest above.  Just got done working those pancakes off, lol.  Now I'm off to the store to look for the Fiber One pancakes.  :)

Couldn't find the Fiber One pancakes at the store.  :(  Ended up buying some of the Special K Red Berries frozen waffles instead.

Do you subscribe to Hungrygirl? Im not promoting here, but I find it a useful source.

They had an article about pancake mix pre-prepared in smaller portions. Seemed worth checking out! :) I keep meaning to look for some in the grocery store.

There's also bisquick heart smart that also has lots of low calorie recipes.

Hungry girl has some amazing blueberry apple pancakes!

Yes, I do subscribe to Hungry Girl... I have her book too.  I'll have to go through and see if I can find anything good for pancakes.

I saw the Bisquick Heart Smart mix in the store, but it had almost the same amount of calories as the one I have, except you still have to add in the egg & oil to the Bisquick one.

Instead of adding oil to the mix i would trying adding unsweetened applesauce.

That's a good idea, thanks!

Oh I forgot to add that they have some recipe's on the back of the box that doesn't ask for oil or butter. :)

Look at the Kashi brands for waffles and pancakes in the frozen food section. I have the honey oat waffles and it is 180 cal for 2 waffles. they are good too!

I second the Fiber One mix; I found it a couple days ago and it makes great pancakes! I used 1/3 cup of the mix plus a tablespoon of pumpkin; it was pretty filling and tasted excellent, especially for about 130 calories.

sylvie_cerise~  I'm so jealous!  Where'd you find it at??  I can't find it anywhere around here, only found the muffin mix (hoping to try out tomorrow).  :)

Make your own pancakes from scratch and put some rolled oats in them for extra fiber. You don't need to add fat at all - I never do and it doesn't make a difference to the end result. Just use egg and skim milk or low-fat milk. If you want extra moistness applesauce pancakes are yummy.

A pancake is just flour, baking powder, egg and liquid to hold it together.

I found it at Target. It'd pretty hard to find, which is a shame.

Thanks!  I'll have to check next time I'm there.  ;)
