Low calorie snacks?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, everyone! :)

I've just started this calorie-counting business and I'm finding that I am still hungry after I've had a meal.

Are there any no-calorie or super-low-calorie foods that I could snack on to fill up without adding to my daily calorie intake? Or is this just wishful thinking?

Thanks! :)

snacks are a healthy part of any meal plan.. they keep you satisfied and keep your metabolism up all day.  You can plan them into your day without feeling guilty about it.  For myself I eat 6 times a day, about 250-300 cals each time.  You could also do 3 300-400 cal meals with 2 100-200 cal snacks in between, depending on your calorie limit.  Here are some ideas:  the key is to make sure there is some protein in there so you stay satisfied:

greek yogurt and fruit, apple and nut butter, almonds and dried fruit, cottage cheese and pineapple, hummus and carrots, tuna fish and whole wheat crackers, string cheese and fruit, english muffin with nut butter... enjoy your snacks! :)

Thanks a lot for your advice. I think I'd better get to the shops before they shut! :)

My favorite new snack is Jello Pudding cups.  They have the 60 cal ones and they still taste great.

Check out this thread... Snack foods your diet couldn't live without.. it has quite a few good ideas ..

Thanks! :)

Thank you! I'll have to give those a try!

You can eat a lot of popcorn for very few calories.

Yum! :)

Sugar-free Jello is 10 calories, and it tastes even better with a little fat-free Reddi Whip

Watermelon and cantaloupe are around 50 calories per cup

Cauliflower and baby carrots (maybe with some light salad dressing, dip or hummus)

This may be a little weird, but Gerber's yogurt melts are good and 60 calories for 1/2 cup, which is a lot of them

100-calorie bags of popcorn are great for portion control and the serving is quite generous

I'm not sure how low-calorie you want our snacks to be, so I just suggested a few 100 or lower ones...

Thanks for all of those! I'm thinking the lower, the better, so those are great! :)

string cheese!! it is my absolute favorite.

also, edamame (soy beans) are great. i like to boil mine in water

fruit and cool whip free. AMAZING.

Wow! String cheese and edamame are brilliant! Thanks! :)

If you ever want something salty, try Genisoy deep sea salted soycrisps. Perfect for that potato chip craving, 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat (unsaturated), and 8 grams of protein per 17 crisps.

I am SUCH a salt-a-holic! Fantastic! :)

My favorite go-to snack is a piece of lite toast with a tablespoon of hummus on it. I will often add it to my breakfast even if I don't feel hungry because if I don't pay close attention it's easy for me to not get enough calories in a day.

I also like lowfat yogurt, baby carrots, an apple, a dill pickle, those soy crisps mentioned above (but count them out, get out your serving, and put the bag away). You can also have a huge bowl of lettuce with zero calorie dressing-- I like to add hummus to that as well.

Cool. Thank you! :)

I'm a big fan of salad.  It's filling and a basic tossed salad with 1 1/2 cups lettuce and a 1/2 cup of tomatoes with 2 TB of fat free Italian is only 55 calories.

Yeah. I seriously love salad. I'm very lucky that way! :) Fruit, on the other hand...
