Hello, I've been on a very low calorie diet..since last Tuesday. I started off at just under 14 stone and am now just over 13. I have been doing lots of walking and eating little.
Trouble is thought I've done this same diet before. In 2006 I weighed about 14 stone, and after going to the extreme I ended up just under 10 stone in a matter of months. and I only stopped then after all kinds of threats of hospital and stuff from parents. and obviously I've put it all back on now. Until around Christmas last year I was never above 13 stone since the first diet ended though.
What I want to know is, I've only been on this latest diet for less than 2 weeks and have exercised. I'm not bothered about putting this weight back on if it happens, what I want to know is is 2 weeks long enough to start all the body problems, starvation or whatever which makes it impossible to lose weight for a long time.
I know its a stupid diet and I should know better since what happened last time and I honestly wish I hadnt started it and could care less about my weight. But the problem is that even when I do eat even just anything now I can't finish it off and I feel awful straight after eating it.. I've 5"7 and 23.
The problem is your "latest diet." You are doing this as a temporary measure to lose weight with no plan for improving your overall health or for life long wellbeing.
I can only tell you what worked for me. Once I got it into my thick head that I needed to make permanant changes to the way I eat, I began seeing this as an ongoing process for improving health, not just losing weight. I began changing bad eating habits for better ones. I used the CC tools to determine my calorie target, and still check now and then to make sure I'm still within it. I have not "dieted."
I didn't actually give up any foods I like. I've just worked on eating smaller portions and fewer unhealthy foods. I intend these to be lifelong changes, so every change I make has to be something I can comfortably live with. I'm in this for life, not just for now.
CC is free. Make use of all the tools, and especially the Advice section. Read over the Ask Mary Q&A. Read the blogs and learn what you can about good nutrition, balanced diet, portion control, fitness, and so much more.
Right on Clairelaine! I couldn't have said it better myself! I have done the no carb diet as well....it is not the way to live and you will yo yo again at some point.
Food is everywhere and you do have to eat it to survive....you need to learn how to have balance in you food choices and portions and add exercise to strengthen and tone you body.
There are no short cuts to this program.....we all have trie them NONE will work long term. You have to come to terms with your weight and learn how to manage it and most importantly be HEALTHY!
Stop the madness of the no carbs.....trust me I have been with CC for about 4 months and I am at the best weight, body shape, strength....overall EVERYTHING I have been in years....almost longer than you are old (sad to say).
If I only knew than at 23 what I know now at 44....gosh I would have been a much happier person all those years about my body and food!
Stay with the program and keep chatting you will learn tons of info and get tons on motivation to stay on the right track!
Good luck!
Thank's for you're replies. So what do you think would be the best diet for me? And do you think eating a very low calorie diet for less than 2 weeks is long enough to make me gain all the weight back and more, even while eating healthily? If it does how long would it take till I start losing it again?
It's not that I'm starving, as water can easily fill me up.
But it'll get worse as I lose more weight. I mean, when I went down to 10 stone a few years ago, the more people telling me that I've lost alot of weight, the less I ate cause I didnt want to put it all back on. Sounds silly I know and even more silly that I'm on a stricter diet now but it all began very sudden. This is really only my 2nd proper diet. Others have lasted only hours, planning to start again the next day!

The best diet for you is no diet. You need to change your eating habits, don't restrict yourself, but have a healthy diet. The pie chart on the site is great learn your %, it is recommended for a healthy diet only so many carbs, fat, protein...etc. Put in all your food in the log and watch you analysis....your score should not fall below a B....otherwise again my key word you are not balanced.
I think your system is probably a little "messed up" at this point. You sound like I was not eating proper, but expecting big results from restricting yourself.
I have learned from CC it takes quite a while for your body to understand and come in tune with the 'NEW" healthy eating style I hope you start. You have to be patience! Sorry to tell you atleast 1 full month if not longer before you really will see some positive changes to you will happen. But if you do this I promise you will start to feel so much better inside and out!
You said you have gained on a very restricted diet....probably because you were not getting enough cal's and your body went into survival mode. I did that many times and than when I see the gain I was like...huh why bother and give up.
Also, fair warning some people do gain in the beginning of this program....but really what else do you have to do....just eat well and get on the scale in ONE month....I bet you will have good results.
Also I go by the cal tool in CC to tell me how many cal's I can have a day. Try it...if you haven't yet. But one warning on it, for me at 44 (so don't know if it will be the same for you) I had to change my activity level lower than I thought to get the right cal's for me. I am pretty active so I first put myself in Moderate but I wasn't losing until I put myself in less than moderate active....so some of this just take tweeking by you...but you will find the rt cal amount for you...just keep with it.
Remember this is not a DIET, this is a way of having a happy, healthy life for your relationship with food and having the best body you can. This plan is a LIFE style, to have forever ( just at some point in the maintenance area vs. trying to lose wt.)
Good Luck!
